  1. They are good, I have the cappuccino which is pretty decent. I recommend trying their sampler pack so you can try the different flavors. I haven't bought a tub because I would probably be tired of it before i could fnish the tub but I do get the 12 packs from Amazon.
  2. Wow - that was a great post! Congrats for getting through those first couple of days, they are the worst. Everyday seems to have its ups and downs but its all how you approach it. You are going to do great with your new sleeve!
  3. I read on here not too long ago about someone who had to go to rehab because they had muscle wasting from not getting enough protein in. How much are you getting from your food? You risk from not getting enough will be losing your muscle and not your fat.
  4. I have been on omeprazole for a few years due to GERD - 20mg once a day. Since surgery I have needed to double that (after discussion with Doctor). I also switch between prilosec and zegerid which is also omeprazole but with some additional stuff in it. I'm not allowed to take swallow any pills, everything has to be crushed or opened. My prilosec is a capsule so I have to open it and put in in SF pudding. Anyway - some days the heartburn is very uncomfortable so I chew on tums which has the side benefit of getting in additional calcium.
  5. Here is a link to my Doctor's requirements for the sleeve - http://www.northwestobesitysurgery.com/pdf/sleeve-gastrectomy-diet.pdf
  6. I started my process last October but only had 4 of 5 years with a BMI of 40+ so I had to wait until January when I went to my PCP and recorded the 5th year of BMI at 40.
  7. For immediate relief take a tums but I would call the Dr's office - you don't want to be miserable until July 3rd.
  8. I didn't really scrub it, more ran the soap over it and then warm water - I don't think anything got inside and it actually only took a day or so before the hole closed up.
  9. Yep, its a bacteria and one that need to clear up before doing the surgery. I think it's a pretty simple treatment.
  10. I got the drain out in the hospital and was sent home with gauze and a clear bandage to go over the gauze. I was instructed to clean and change the bandage daily - I washed it in the shower with water and johnson baby soap.
  11. I'm glad that found a pain medication that would work for you! Frankly, I would rather deal with pain than deal nausea - feel so bad for that women that was in recovery with you. Take your meds, take your time, and get lots of rest!

I will be 4 weeks out on Monday and have pretty much just been sticking with the food that works for me (Im on pureed). When I try something different it can lead to that horrible intestinal grumbling, usually within an hour and of course that leads to bad cramping in the bathroom. So, rather than try new foods I'm staying with my cottage cheese, yogurt and refried beans. Not much of a diet but it works and I figure slow and steady wins the race so no need to hurry through the food stages!
  13. Let me know how it goes with the tuna fish - I'm a little leery to try it.
  14. Congratulations! Take it slow and steady - don't overdo it. Ice chips can be your best friend!
  15. I couldn't do popsicles at all but ice chips in the hospital were my best friend. I'm not sure how old you are but I do think when you are older it just simply takes longer to recuperate from surgery than when you are younger. I set up a timing system for myself with my drinks - every 5 minutes I would take a sip, in the first week and a half those sips were very very small - now at almost 4 weeks those sips have turned into a good size swallow. I'm curious - did you have hernia repair too? It seems that people with hernia repair take a little longer to be able to have a decent swallow.
  16. Mine is similar - to the left side even in line with belly button. I think it may have something to do with internal stiches. I planned to ask my Doctor about it next week at my 1 month post op appt.
  17. I am right there with you! This is my week two on pureed and really the only things that sit well are yogurt, cottage cheese and sometime refried beans with a little sour cream. The yogurt is the best or goes down the smoothest.
  18. I suffered with those when I was undergoing chemo many years ago. There is a medicine you can take that will numb the spots so you can at least eat. I can't think of the name of it at the moment.
  19. I also have kept my surgery to myself. My husband, 2 of my kids, and 2 very close friends are the only ones that know that "truth". My co-workers think that I had my gall bladder out and a hernia repair (which actually was suppose to happen but when the Dr got in he didn't see a hernia). I started dieting back in January and in March went on a low carb diet recommended as pre-op by my surgeon and as a result lost almost 40lbs before surgery so pretty much everyone is used to my diet. After the surgery I was with my in-laws and they were asking about the surgery since I hadn't told them - I basically said that I had a problem with my stomach and then needed to remove a portion of it. That was the end of it - I'm more inclined to tell the truth to family but my co-workers, forget it - they don't need to know my personal business. You have to do what you feel most comfortable doing - I think this is very much an individual decision.
  20. How long were you off? I go back next week and am already expecting 100's of emails in my inbox.
  21. I love pho!! I'm in the pureed stage and hadn't thought about puree the noodles but have thought about just getting the broth.
  22. I'm another fan of the unjury chicken broth - if it weren't for this I'm not sure I would get all my protein in for the day.
  23. LOL - still craving pickles huh... Wonder what they would taste like pureed.
  24. I will be in the same boat as you next Monday. I was sleeved on June 4th and will go back to work on July 2nd. For me, I wanted the 4 weeks to get use to the new schedule too. My plan is to do my protein drinks at work - isopure or cytosport both of which are clear and deliver a good amount of protein. Then I will bring my little container of cottage cheese or yogurt. My job is a desk job but the office has been stressed out since both myself and another co-worker have been out on leave leaving only 3 people to take care of business. My customers know I'm coming back on Monday so I'm also guessing that my phone will blow up!
  25. Glad to hear that you are recovering well now! I take Milk of Magnesia for when I need to have a movement. My Doc has a progression, first try MOM, then try Magnesia Citrate which you can buy at the store, and if that doesn't work go for Miralax. Usually the MOM works for me.
