  1. I was just thinking - I couldn't even hit 100g before surgery and I was doing nothing but eating meat/protein and low carb. The only time I could reach that was with big steaks. I just try to listen to my body - some days I get all my protein in but other days I really feel like I need to get a lot of water in so I switch it up.
  2. Honestly - yes, there are fleeting moments when I regret this like when my husband BBQs and the smell is awesome but I can't have any. Times when I'm tired of working on my protein intake or getting in enough water. Times when I'm just plan exhausted. Again, those regrets are fleeting - they come quickly and they leave quickly. I know that without this surgery I would not be sitting here 21lbs down since my surgery on June 4th. I think it's human to have moments of regret or feeling sorry for ourselves until we make our way into our new habits.

    Prescribed An Nsaid

Was this your surgeon that prescribed it? If so then I would trust that he knows what he is doing.
  4. I have never cared for the Isopure ready to drink but I do have it once in a while because it packs a bunch when it comes to protein. My life saver after surgery was the Unjury Chicken broth protein powder. You can order sample packs from their website so you can try the product first - in fact my sample came with a bottle, thermometer (to check water temp for the chicken broth - can't be over 130 degrees) plus 12 sample packs.

    Otc Med For Nausea

You can get those patches that go behind the ear that are used for seasickness. It can help.

Someone Explain This To Me Please

I think it would be a good idea to talk to a nutritionist. They are better equipied to give you some ideas of other approaches you can take to help rev up your metabolism. Did you see one before your surgery? If not, you do want to find one that has experience with bariatric patients.

    Where's The Beef...i Mean Veggies?

The day I came home from the hospital my son and his wife brought me over a juicer. I get my vegies in by juicing them and it also gives me my liquid too. I cleared drinking the juice with my Doctor at my one week post-op.
  8. I agree - starchy carbs are my trigger foods. Now, if I need the carbs they will come from vegies.

    Backed Out..so Far

Well I think you made the right decision for yourself. While we all may have doubts and feel scared going into surgery, if you don't have the time to focus 100 percent on yourself after the surgery it will be very difficult. It sounds like you have some extreme challenges with your family and that can make recovery harder. Good luck to you and your family!! When the time is right you will know it.

    Breast, Boobs, Bubbies, Chest-L, Tits!

LOL - great thread! Ya, I seem to lose from the top on down - my boobs are now skin that want to point at the ground. They do fill my DDD cups but even my husband told me yesterday my bra is too big.
  11. Yep - taste withdrawls! That's a good name for it. At the grocery store today they were BBQing ribs outside....ahhh, the smell. What I would give for a taste but, that's what got me to the place I'm in now, too many tastes.

    The Drain Tube

Mine felt weird too when it was removed but it didn't hurt and was over very quickly.

    Stand Still & No Loss

Wow - you are doing great! I was sleeved on June 4th and have lost 19lbs. How much did you think you would lose?
  14. Well count me in too! I'm in Lynnwod so much further south but I would be game to meet up!
  15. The unjury chicken broth was a life saver for me after surgery. You will get tired of all the sweet tasting Protein powder so it's nice to have something that's a little more savory. I also use their unflavored protein powder so I can put it into other things. The only thing about it is that you can't have the temp of your Water be greater than 130 degrees or it will clump. If you go to their website you can order a sample pack that also comes with a thermometer. I also like sytranx nectar - the Cappuccino flavor makes me feel a bit like I'm having a latte. If you are at the Vitamin Shoppe check out both the Isopure ready to drink and the Cytosport Whey Isolate ready to drink - they are great when you don't want that "thick" taste of a shake.

    Back In Hospital

You need to get checked out - fever and pain is not good. My Doctor required that I call him right away if I was having any fever with pain.
  17. Have you tried refried beans? I'm almost a month out and the foods that sit the best wtih me are: yogurt, cottage cheese, the ricotta cheese bake and refried beans with a little sour cream.

"so How Much Weight Have You Lost?" Rant

LOL - that was one of the reasons I didn't want to tell anyone - didn't want that kind of pressure. Now, people see me losing weight and probably think my cancer has come back because they look at me with such concern. (I have been cancer free for 23 yrs).

Is It Harder After 40 For This Surgery?

I think it's harder when you are older. Your body seems to heal a bit more slowly, at least that's been my experience. I'm 54 and was sleeved on June 4th. Next week I will go back to work and frankly would love to have another couple of weeks off. While the first two weeks were the one that seemed the toughest because I was so fatigued, I am still not where I was before the surgery. But, time usually heals everything and eventually it will pass. The hardest part for me now is scheduling everything, when to take my meds, having my1st Protein shake of the day and waiting the time before having Breakfast, then lunch, dinner, etc all while trying to get in my Water. Sometimes I feel much more obessive over my eating than I did before surgery. "looking ahead" - I stopped walking like a 90 yr old at about 2 weeks - I had a bad pain on my left side where I couldn't bend down or anything then one day, in the middle of the day it just simply stopped hurting - it was so weird, there one day and then just gone!

Oh you really do look awesome! Any you smile says so much about how you are feeling!

    :(

I'm a 23 yr survivor of Lymphoma - I was 31 when it was found and had 3 young children. More people survive cancer than die from it!! Its a shock but you will get through this and thank God that you were going through all this testing so they could find it because your are right, going through an endoscopy is not something that a Dr would routinely do for a 25 yr old! We are here for you!

    Accused Of Husband Stealing

Wow - that's the best NSV ever!
  23. karenb4729

    Wow

Yep - that's about what I gained after surgery. 3 weeks later I still feel a bit bloated in the stomach area but I think when you are older everything just takes longer to heal.

    Magnesium Citrate

For me it begins working in about 4 hours. I had to use it for both the pre-op and for my colonoscopy. I never felt faint and never had bad cramps but you do feel the bubbling and you know its gonna kick in any minute.
  25. This is a hard decision to make and you want to be really sure that this is what you wnat to do. Have you attended an in-person support group? I was nervous and scared more about something happening to me in surgery. If you are fearful that you are making the right decision than you may need to stop and think about it some more. While most of us have no problems afterwards it can be very difficult if you aren't emotionally ready for this or ready to give up the things you love. Think long and hard.
