  1. I have taken 4 weeks of short term disability. This is my 3rd week out from surgery and I now feel pretty good and could be going back next week but looking forward to the extra time.

    Day 2 Really Bad Heartburn

You can try zegerid - its the same as prilosec but has a bicarbonate in it too. Its what my Dr recommends. I'm not allowed to swallow pills/capsules so I do have to open it up and put in yogurt or SF pudding.

    Secret

I'm another person who hasn't told many people, husband, son, daughter and two close friends. I didn't want to deal with any negativity or living under a microscope as people decided if I'm losing weight or not. A couple of months ago I started a low carb diet and my co-workers all think it was because I was having gall bladder and hernia surgery. I go back to work in a week and I'm sure they will notice a difference because I have lost about 16lbs since surgery. But, the ones I have been in contact with I have told that I'm having trouble tolerating food which can be common with gall bladder surgery too. Frankly, I don't think anyone would come straight out and ask me if I had WLS and I'm not going to volunteer it.

    Are Protein Drinks Hydrating?

According to my Doctor your protein drinks count towards the 64oz of fluids.

    3 Months Post-Op

I really enjoyed your post! It will be nice when I can get to the point where I don't have to think day and night about the sleeve, what I'm going to eat or how I'm going to get in al my protein. Seems like each day it becomes easier and you sharing your experience proves that it does get easier and that it's all worth it in the end!

    Sleeved On June 21St

It gets easier. The best thing you can do is rest and heal. My Dr's goal when I came home was 32oz of liquid which is doable - you then try to work up to 64oz a day. For me, 32oz was probably more than I drank before the surgery so what I am doing is trying to make sure I take a sip every 5 minutes. Warm broth was better for me than cold liquid.

    Eating

Wow - that's awesome for you! I was on full liquids for two weeks, am currently in pureed for 6 weeks, followed by soft foods for 4 weeks and by month 4 regular diet. Each Dr is different and I'm fine with the slow progress expecially in light of the fact that I have had some problems tolerating different foods. Im glad that you are able to eat regular food with no problems!

    Food

You can buy low fat greek yogurt and the best thing is that greek yogurt carries much more protein than regular yogurt.

    Incision Pain.

I had a incision on my left side that gave me a lot of grief painwise. It hurt to walk, get up, stand, bend down, etc. Well at the end of my second week it just disappeared one afternoon. It was weird cause it was there in the morning and then bam.. gone in the afternoon. It will get better!

    3 Month Update!

You look great! Its funny, the first thing I noticed was that your pants had gotten longer.

    Week 2

You can put it on a baked cracker and then eat it till everything is mush in your mouth. Peanute butter was listed as a food on my pureed diet but boy, I had a really bad reaction to it so Im going to stay away for a while.

? Re 2 Day Bowel Prep

I stayed with clear liquids (no clear protein drink) during my bowel prep. I had to drink the magensia citrate on Saturday before surgery and once I had that it was to be all clear until midnight on Sunday and then nothing by mouth. It did clear me out! I did have a nice breakfast on Saturday before I did the prep.
  13. Be careful - I tried some liquid vitamins and had a super bad reaction. Someone told me it was probably a reaction to the niacin. I would rather have the nasty chewable than deal with that feeling again.

    Tell Me It Gets Better

It gets easier after surgery because you don't feel hungry. I'm amazed at the lack of hunger - although I will have some hunger like feelings but I have acid reflux.

    Cannot Drink The Protein

Try Isopure, the ready to drink - its a clear liquid and not very sweet. Also, the Unjury chicken broth is good too. Its actually the chicken broth that saved me!

    June 28Th At 9:15 Nervous

Oh I think we all feel this way. My surgery was on 6/4 and I laid in the pre-op room and cried. I told my husband that I couldn't beleive that I let my weight go so much that I needed to do something like this. I was also worried that something would happen to me. The good news is we get through it. There are bumps along the way and the road isn't the easiest to travel but it is worth it.
  17. karenb4729

    ?

Geez, all I can do right now is 1 oz... or bascially 2 tablespoons of pureed.
  18. Most all of my pre-op testing was done at the hospital close to my work while my surgery was done at the hospital closer to my home.

    Metal Taste...

I get it from low carb... that's why plain water tastes so bad to me.

    Was Just Sleeved

Welcome! Glad to have you on board! The first week is the hardest - it will get better!

I Hate It When I Cant Burp

Yep - that's identical to my hummus and Peanut Butter experience. Shoot, not sure what I should try next. Have you tried mashed potatos?

I Hate It When I Cant Burp

Oh Sally - I have two cans of turkey chili in my cabinet.... guess I will hold off for a bit. It sounds like your experience with it was like my experience with the peanut butter. Did you put it through a blender?

I Hate It When I Cant Burp

Mina - Hummus and Peanut Butter are the two main culprits this week. I learned that you should only take a teaspoonfull and then wait.. and by wait I mean at least an hour. If everything seems good you can try more at your next meal. My problem with these two was about an hour later it was severe cramping, diarhea, and then needing to vomit but nothing came up. That's why I'm kind of sticking to what works... this process of trial and error is a bit scary.

    Very Disapointed

I think 17lbs in roughly 6 weeks is great!

I Hate It When I Cant Burp

Get some chewable Papaya Enzyme. That's what my Dr recommends for when you get that too full feeling. You are brave to try spaghetti. I just started pureed foods this week and have already found a few that I just cannot tolerate. So for now I'm sticking to yogurt and refried beans.
