  1. I am seriously considering Dr. Garcia. I am going between him and Dr. Kelly. How much did you end up paying with Garcia and what was required deposit amt? I am looking at having surgery in December (that is what I would like to happen) but would love to schedule my date ASAP. I have to save up for this, dont want to get a loan if at all possible and its possible in the next 6 months, but I dont have a large amt to put down right now to schedule date.

My husband will be coming with me and I love that this takes care of hotel cost before and after and he will actually get a bed in the hospital room with me...that saves some expense right there. Others I looked at you had to pay your own hotel.

    Thanks for any info -

  2. Hello Texan/DFW Sleevers! I have been researching getting sleeved for almost a year now, as I have gained and gained more weight. My insurance has an exclusion to bariatrics no matter what, so I am going Cash pay. Ive looked up several in the area that have great deals and look good - but there are so many its hard to narrow them down.

Anyone else do cash or is everyone covered by ins?

Glad to be here and cant wait to be on the losing side soon!

  3. Hi there - I have not yet been sleeved, but have been researching for close to a year now. My insurance has an exclusion to Bariatrics for any reason, so I am in the self pay boat.

I am in the Dallas/FW area and have found at least a dozen bariatric surgeons that cost about the same or just a tad more than Alvarez (if the $9,500 range is correct). Actually even found one yesterday that was $8,000 and right here in my area.

From what I see, Dr. Alvarez is very impressive....his website, his youtube videos, his book, etc. and if I were to make the decision to go to Mexico I am confident I would chose him. Question is - is there a reason people chose going to Mexico if they can pay the same price in their local areas?

I realize, not all live in DFW...but there have to be comparable rates in large cities in other states. You see them advertise on TV, radio, etc. So it makes me wonder if these rates in the US do not include everything. Obviously it would be cheaper for me to travel to Dallas because of gas prices and I would not have to stay in a hotel 2 nights, just hospital and then home.

Honestly, just curious what everyones thoughts are. I have read some say their sleeve was or would have been in the 20,000 range....its amazing there would be such a difference in the states, is that possible?

Just trying to make an informed decision.....just seems if Im going to pay the same amt for surgery, it would make more sense to go local because it seems it would be less money in the long run (gas, other travel expenses, less time away from work, etc)

    Thanks for any input,

    Misty
