  1. Thanks Shar and the same to you! I'm glad to hear you're up and around. I'm hanging tough...this too shall pass! I don't know about the rest of you, but my doctor said I shouldn't start exercising for 5 weeks. He did say that I could start walking as soon as I felt like it for as long as I felt like it. Needless to say, I haven't felt like it yet. But like you Shar, I'm looking forward to when I can!

Well, the day after wasn't bad at all (that was Wednesday) and silly me, I thought I was going to breeze through this! However, yesterday I felt like I'd been kicked in the back, in the kidneys especially. Or as I told my niece, like my liver had been dropped on the floor and the doctor had whacked it on the side of the table to dust it off before he put it back in!!! :angry Getting up and down was difficult and my DH had gone back to work, so I was on my own. I took pain meds and used the heating pad and that helped a lot. Slept again last night in the recliner. I got up at 7 when the hubbling did and asked him to stay home w/ me. He did and went back to bed. I went in and got in the bed and somehow got comfortable enough to dose for another hour, but then had to wake him to help me get up. The back's not so bad today and I'm not taking near the pain meds, so hopefully I'm on the mend. However, I'm not getting all my fluids in and certainly not all my protein. I feel bloated, but not gassy, rather like I'm retaining fluids and in general, I just feel like something the cat dragged in! One of the nurses at the hospital told me today would be my worst day, but so far it's nothing compared to yesterday...so, hopefully I'll continue to improve. I've scheduled my post op for next Wednesday. I hope all you who were banded today are feeling well and will bounce back quicker than me!

no, i doubt that it is. i'm just a big baby when it comes to pain. but i haven't gotten to the crying stage yet. however, if it continues, i'll truly be getting crabby (and i do it so well! ask the DH!)...:heh:

yep, i would be in a world of hurt w/out it. According to calorieking.com, 1 cup of apple juice, unsweetened is 107 calories. faithmd, i've been toeing the line pretty much too. but if i can't sleep in the recliner, then i'd have to sleep standing in the corner! laying down is soooo painful right now. my back feels like someone kicked it. i'm wondering if my doc didn't squeeze an organ and bruise it! maybe that's the gas, but it's not up in my shoulder at all, rather right below my shoulder blade around where my kidneys are. i sure hope it's better tomorrow, but the nurse said friday may be my worst day! i'm sucking down the pain meds like they're candy...i'm such a weenie when it comes to pain! :faint:

hey Maya! glad you joined us! i was banded on the 8th. i haven't been able to sleep in the bed since then. our bed sits kind of low and i just can't get comfortable, so i've been sleeping in my recliner w/ a heating pad to my back. normally i don't sleep well in a recliner, except for naps, but i've been catching some major zzzz'sss lately!

Shar, I'm so sorry to hear that! I've been doing pretty well other than a very sore side. I had a little gas last night and this a.m., but took some Gas-X and it seemed to help. I've also been using a heating pad on my side which helps. Did they give you anything for nausea? They gave me some suppositories which I thankfully haven't needed. I hope you feel better soon. Did you just get out of the hospital?
  8. you might try this too, although i guess you'd need to stick to what they say. i put in my existing weight and got 1573 cals. when i put in my desired weight, i got 1198. see how it compares to what they told you. http://www.shapeup.org/interactive/rmr1.php

Hey Patti, I have high bp problems as well. Have been on meds for several years and am hoping that this operation will allow me to get off of them. I hate to hear you're having the same problem. Maybe this is just due to pre-op jitters and it won't take much to get it under control. Please do keep us posted.

Well, I don't know how creative this is, but I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow (first day on full liquids). I was cleaning out my freezer today and found some fresh frozen peaches from last summer. I'm going to blend those up w/ some skim milk and vanilla protein powder...I hope it tastes like a peach shake! Oh, but you said post op liquid phase...hmmm, I remember one Thanksgiving, my cousin had been in a car accident and had his jaw wired shut. He had his entire Thanksgiving dinner blended up! It grossed me out at the time, but right now it sounds wonderful!!!

You're 18 right? Trust me, your skin will probably 'bounce' back! Us old birds would kill for some 18 year old skin! I have heard though that Vitamin E is good for that, so you might check at your local health food store or GMC and see what they recommend.

I see what you mean! I think it is her reflection. But they chopped her 'reflected' head off! hahaha! Ok, it wasn't that funny...maybe I need more pain meds...

Well, I'm officially in bandland...had the surgery yesterday. I feel great today and if my port weren't sore, would be up and running around! My hospital was wonderful. I was an out-patient and had to be there at 7. Got there shortly before that (after getting up at 4 and hitting the road at 4:45!), was taken in to a room w/ the hubbling and then about an hour later was taken in to the pre-op area. I'd say the surgery started around 8:30 and DH said the doc came out and talked to him at 9:30 and said all went well. I stayed in recovery until about 11:30 and we were back on the road and headed home by noon! I didn't need any pain medicine until right before I left and then didn't take any more until right before I went to bed at midnight. Woke up at 3:00 hurting and got up to take more...decided to sleep in my lounger after that because we have a platform bed and it's a little low and a little difficult to get out of. But then I slept thru until my doc's office called at 8. I was fortunate and didn't have much of a preop diet - just the day before - and I only have to do today, then I'll start on the full liquid diet for 2 weeks. Hopefully that won't be too bad (I cheated this a.m. and put some Coffeemate in my coffee, but will behave the rest of the day...I hope!). I'm looking forward to that first 'real' meal, but know my stomach will be shrunk enough that I won't be likely to overdo it. I'm a librarian at a small college and our new school year starts 97 days from yesterday. I have a 'new' dress, size 16 that I bought a few years ago and have never been able to wear, so that's my motivation for the summer. The doc said I could start back exercising mid June. Hopefully by then we'll have all the algae out of our pool and I can enjoy the summer!! Thanks for all your prayers and positive thoughts. This forum has been a great help in my journey so far and I'm sure will continue to help me over the rough spots!

hey, i'm home & ok. more later. go to tickerfactory.com and follow their directions. at the end they give you some information to copy. paste that into your signature area.
  24. Good grief!!! A size 12 at 198? What kind of exercise are you doing woman? Are you going for a smaller size or just less weight? Cause a size 12 sounds awfully good to me! Oh, p.s., welcome! :clap2: pps, did you say how tall you are? I'm 5'4'' so 198 would definitely keep me from getting in a size 12...maybe a 16 if I'm lucky!

Well, you're not taking in much, so maybe that's the problem. However, I have surgery scheduled for tomorrow and my doc gave me a clear liquid diet (boy could i eat a nice porterhouse right now!) and I'm to take a dose of Magnesium citrate. In case you're not familiar w/ it, it's a saline laxative that works w/in 3-6 hours of your taking it. It comes in a couple of flavors, but I've tried both the cherry (this time) and once before had to take it and tried the lemon lime. Neither flavor is 'tasty', but it is effective! :sick
