  1. First off, it's gotta be said even before your surgery the human body is only capable of absorbing 20-27grams of protien at one sitting. So all this stuff that advertises 40-50grams should be taken in 1-2 doses or less.

Unfortunately I haven't tried any of the supplements you've listed so I'm not much help there. I can however tell you that the 2 top recommendations from ppl on this board are Unjury® protien powders (chicken Soup flavor is most popular) & Syntrax® nectar ( fuzzy navel seems to be most popular)

  2. Wow guys! THANK YOU!! I know that this is the path I want to take. At 32 I shouldn't be concerned about diabetes and heart attacks... I will get in touch with them' date=' as for hand holding when I am hurt I am a bear lol.

O.T.R, when did you get your procedure done? Benjammin that is an awesome pic LOL (had to mention that) when was yours? Kemo, thanks for your blogspot link.

So, pre and post op, what is the hardest thing to get used to? Did you vomit for two days after your surgery? Do you have enough energy to carry out your day? Sorry, I have a billion questions lol, but I will go easy on you to start.[/quote']

    May 23rd was my date

I was kept on intravenous nausea meds while in the hospital. I did have one occurrence before meds were started but none since. Also I haven't taken any pain or nausea meds since & I have had no problems

  3. Unfortunately I don't have access to the same scale all the time. But my weight this morning was 239<-----is that even possible? 20# in one week?

Today marks 1mo from surgury and exactly 50lbs lost. Even if I slow to half this rate I'll be in Onderland by my 90 day mark. What a trip!!!

Hmmm, well looks like I had a bad scale last week. I used 2 different scales this time. Now I'm 250. I guess the 20# in one week wasn't possible, but I'm still happy with 9# in two weeks, seems a bit healthier too.

  4. This depends on what you consider "cost effective". Aceves, Ponce, Kelly, & Garcia are the highest recommended surgeons all have impeccable reputations.

The question is what are you comfortable with?

Aceves works out of a bit nicer facility, limits himself to 2 surgeries per day but is 8750

Ponce is a very well established surgeon that has taught the procedure to other successful surgeons (Kelly for example). He has a great coordanator named Trish that is a heaven sent, I could go on about her but I won't. His only downfall is the he doesn't speak English very well. Rate 5500

Kelly speaks fluent English and provides a lot of personal attention. He has chosen not to work with coordinators, and to take some of that responsibility on himself. Rate 5500

Garcia, to be honest I don't know much about but have seen tons of raving reviews. Rate 5000 (that might have been a special)

Bottom line, if 3250 doesn't amount to much in your life, Aceves is the answer. But if you are willing to deal with a bit less hand holding the other 3 are just as good an option. For me, I went to dr. ponce de leon & I am very happy with my results.

  5. Hi everyone' date=' I have been hanging around reading posts for a while now and thought I would finally join. Thanks for all of the great info, this site has been so helpful! I am scheduled for August 11th with Dr. Kelly, and I can't wait![/quote']

    Welcome aboard.

  6. So' date=' I know this is a post surgery site, but I have a concern this group might no more about. I think I am going to be approved for the surgery. It has been a fight and I was all gung ho, but now I'm scare this is going to be like every other diet I've had. What if I'm fat again in 2 years? How easy is it to gain back???[/quote']

Well, if you view the surgury as a "magic pill" that is suppose to do all the work itself, your chances of failure are much higher

On the other hand if you view it as a tool to help you along your path then you have nothing to be concerned about.

The success rate for the sleeve is astronomically high. The only people I've heard of that gain the weight back have been so self destructive in there habits that nothing short of intensive psychotherapy would have helped them. BTW im talking about regaining most or all of their weight, many will regain 10lbs+- after reaching goal

One of the things about the sleeve is that for most people it changes the way we think about food. I am one of those who strayed from the recommended diet, but I am just not tempted to put anything unhealthy in my mouth. Yes I get cravings, but then I think about my limited capacity and realize I really don't want it.

When I look at someone eating a "regular meal" now all I can think of is how much benefit does each portion of the meal provide. bread, rice, potatoes, and Pasta no longer have a place in my world. Funny thing is that I was always known for having an Italian stomach.

It's amazing how your views on food change when you are trying to get the proper nourishment into a few ounces, rather than trying to fill a 20-30oz stomach.

  7. I Know I probably shouldn't be obsessed with my weight already but lets face it that's why I got this surgery to lose weight...I woke up this morning thinking I probably lost a few lbs...no I lost .8lbs that's it! I have to say my jealousy is kicking in over those who are just dropping lbs like crazy...I have barely lost 9lbs in 9 days since surgery! Is this good? Is anyone else losing weight like me? I mean if I didn't have the surgery then 9lbs would be awesome in a week but I guess I feel like I should be losing more...does anyone think my 30 min at the gym yesterday is causing me not to lose weight? Am I eating too much? Not enough? Can you tell this is driving me crazy?! Help please!

Is that 0.8lb in a day or a week? When was your surgery? Are you experiencing a stall?

I've had a couple 2lb weeks, I think that is pretty normal, and almost everybody has stalls.

  8. Does Dr Almanza do plastic surgery also? That will be my next step finding a plastic surgeon for next year. Hopefully exercise will keep my skin tightened

IDK about Dr. Almanza, probably not, I don't see that he would have any time to mess with plastics since he is known to be the highest volume WLS provider (it's not uncommon for him to have 5 surgeries in a day).

But you can talk to Trish, she knows a couple cosmetic surgeons. There is also a plastics office in the INT.

  9. Maybe I expected more ? Not sure but I'll give it another try.

I for one read a post & if me posting would just be repeating someone else's response, I will typically not post a response. Maybe I should at least post that I agree with so & so. I just always felt that ppl would view that as a cheap way of boosting my post count.

Another thing to be aware of is this is a very active forum and threads move down rapidly. I'm on an iPad, it only shows the top 15 threads so I miss a lot.

  10. Hmmmm, Thin Soon, did you notice the last four posts say the same thing? I've got nothing against Dr ponce de leon, actually he did my surgury and I am actually considering sending my daughter to him (how's that for a recommendation), however, I hope you are just an excited future sleeves and not a shill. Just saying it looks suspicious when someone quotes a surgeons price 4 times in a row.

  11. Looks like everybody is doing great. w00t w00t!!! I'm down another 2lbs.......259 now' date=' was 261 last week. I'm thinking it's about time for my first stall to hit.[/quote']

  12. If she will provide the recommendation for the sleeve then let her do her thing.

If she tries pushing the Lapland you can easily point out the huge failure rate of the band along with the success rate of sleeving.

Not to mention, how many band to sleeve revisions are being done, I for one dont want to set myself up for a second surgery.

And on top of this I wouldn't want the foreign object in my body, nor would I want to deal with the ongoing hassle & cost of maintaining the band.
