  1. I am in a "food funeral" frenzy and it is not helping that my surgery had to change from july 6 to july 19. I am acting like each meal.is my last and giving myself permission for anything. I scare myself and have fears that all foods will be sliders for me. Does anyone else see food as an enemy and not a friend?

I did exact what you are doing. And I'm glad I did. As far as seeing food as the enemy, no, I see it as more of a burden for now. My body needs its nourishment, but I could easily go without eating otherwise. I see ppl eating things I loved a few weeks ago and think " you are killing yourself". I still get cravings but they are so much easier to overcome. All I do is look at th price and think, "no way I'm paying $8 for a dish that's 1/2 rice or potato" not to mention portion sizes seem so huge to me now, I'd be eating 1 restaurant meal for 1.5 days & that's if I ate nothing else. YUCK!!! Can you imagine eating the same thing over & over.

  2. Im going to Dr. Ponce in July. Trish with WLS is his coordinator and is so helpful. She is one reason why I am going to him. She lives in MX' date=' speaks great english and is there when you have your surgery. She isn't just someone who you talk to on the phone. When I was doing my research I found out some of the coordinators never had met the doctors they were pushing. Dr Ponce is a well known and respected gastric surgeon. I am having my surgery done at the INT hospital. I didn't want a clinic. Any questions feel free to ask.[/quote']

Umm, you might want to prepare yourself, based on US standards, the INT is not really a hospital. It's more like a surgury center. Not that you have anything to be worried about, the Angeles Hospital is only a couple blocks away and Dr Ponce is quite capable Trish is heaven sent. I had my surgury there on 6-23 and it's been great, no pain, I've already lost 35lbs, & I've had no problems with the foodsive tried.

I can say you are in good hands, just don't want you to expect the INT to be more than what it is.

  3. ...I just want some fries' date=' a cracker, a slice of bread[/quote']

notice what all these have in common? They are all empty carbs with no nutritional content. These are the hardest to give up. But you can be sure that you are doing yourself well to avoid these all together. Don't let you're mind fool you. These are cravings, not hunger. If it were hunger you would be focused on nourishment.

  4. Just don't get in the habit of drinking with your food. As your tummy heals' date=' if you keep doing that while you eat, it will stretch your tummy out as well as you don't get the nutrients as well as you would w/o drinking with food intake.

Listen to your body and go back to the "basic" rules you've heard... sip sip sip, no drinking 30 mins prior to eating/after eating, eat slowly. Still a hard one for me.... but if you don't do it, you will toss your Cookies (promise you, been there/done that).

    Good luck![/quote']

The funny thing is the diet that was given(by my surgeon) to me seems to contradict almost everything I read on here. It has lots of fruit juices & also recommends drinking small amounts(250ml) while eating. Odd thing is, if I'm right 250ml is about 8 oz, that's not so small to me.

  5. So which is it - are you producing excess/thick saliva' date=' or is normal swallowing causing you problems?[/quote']

Well, I dont really know. I never paid much attn to what "normal" saliva production is, so I really don't really have a reference point. But I am amazed at the amount that comes out (if I force it) I'd say probably 1.5oz just a few minutes after eating(maybe 15min).

I'm thinking most likely eating too fast. I'm eating much slower than before, but 2-3oz is not taking me nearly 1/2hr to consume, maybe more like 15min.

  6. If money was not a factor in the decision at all & I could choose any doctor in any country, I would choose Dr. Aceves. He is the only doctor that I have not been able to find any dirt on, granted most of the "dirt" I was able to find on most other surgeons was stuff that really didn't matter to the surgery. But his record is impeccable & believe it or not the care you receive in Mexico is more personal & attentive that what you receive here. Plus the 3 or so days post op that you are in close proximity to the surgeon is comforting also.

And BTW, I was not an Aceves patient. I ended up going to dr. Ponce de leon because I felt that the 3250 difference between them couldn't be justified.

Dr. Aceves works out of a hospital, Whereas Dr. Ponce does most of his surguries at the INT Hospital, which is more of a big surgury center than a hospital (there is a real hospital about 2 blocks away though).

  7. I am finding that when eating soft foods I so far am only able to handle about 2-3oz before I'm full. The thing that is bothering me is that I seem to be producing so much saliva that it's making me feel "overfull". This really seems odd to me. I can force the saliva back up & relieve the discomfort. I know this is pretty gross. But has anybody else experienced this?

  8. I'm currently trying hemp protien. It's the only plant protien that I have found that has all the amino acids your body needs. Most health food stores carry it. You do have to check the label and make sure you are getting 50%+ protien. It honestly doesn't taste as good as the shakes(it doesn't taste bad either), but it is the most complete non dairy protien I've found.

  9. Down 4lbs from 265 to 261. Not as much as I'd like to see, but definitely acceptable in a 0 exercise week. I've been stuck on the couch since last Sunday due to minor strains in both Achilles tendons. Just about healed now. I'm thinking instead of walking for a while I'm gonna find an elliptical machine.

  10. I can definitely understand the hesitancy from ex-banders. Kinda makes me think, it might be even better if the banding material was designed to break down and be absorbed by the body. Kinda like internal stitches except instead of a 2-3week break down have it dissolve over 6-9 months. That would give ample time for good habits to develop before the restriction was lifted....... Just something that made me go hmmmmm.
