  1. I am just over three months out and eating is still a chore...I never really thought I would have to force myself to eat' date=' but that is what I have to do. I really have not desire to eat anything and when I do, nothing tastes good. Does anyone else have this problem...does it pass with in time?[/quote']

Eating has become just another chore for me. I'm committed to eating healthy, therefore most of the junk we add to make food taste good is really not an option for me. I find myself looking for the ways to get all my nutrients by consuming as little food as possible only because eating really is a pain in my butt! I be never once believed people when they said they viewed food as fuel. Now I can say thats exactly how I view it, even to the point of sometimes disliking the time it takes to fill up.

  2. Hmmm' date=' well looks like I had a bad scale last week. I used 2 different scales this time. Now I'm 250. I guess the 20# in one week wasn't possible, but I'm still happy with 9# in two weeks, seems a bit healthier too.[/quote']

Whoo hoo!!!! 246 today, that's 4 more pounds gone. I might just have to write my sleeve a love song:D

  3. Last minute jitters are totally normal for everybody except Philadelphians. Philly peeps ain't scared of nothin' :D

But seriously, most ppl have concerns as the surgery draws near. Most ppl find it very difficult to stay on their pre-op diet. My standard advice is to write down all the things that your weight keeps you frm doing or makes more difficult. Also write down any problems you have due to excess weight. Do the same with where you will be in 10 years w/o surgery and then with.

Keep that list handy then when you start wondering if you are doing the right thing look at the list. When reality stares you back in the face the emotional reaction will fade.

  4. Sorry to hear about this hurdle in your path. I too had to postpone my surgery due to an accident that put me out of work for a time.

These things usually have a way of working themselves out.

You are doing the right thing by not making a big deal of it to your husband. He just took a huge kick in the teeth. he needs you to remind him that he is a good provider.

Keep positive, your attitude will directly affect his. There is a better job out there waiting on him, or maybe this is time for him to strike out on his own, and make one of his hobbies a business.

If he hasn't yet I would suggest he reads the book "48 days to the work you love". This could turn into the greatest opportunity he has ever had.

  5. now that we have all got the surgery what is it that you crave the most and miss the most

The first couple of weeks I wanted a Five Guys burger & Popeyes chicken. I gave in and bought one chicken tender, it took me two sittings to eat it. That cure my cravings, it wasn't nearly as good as I rememember it being. Now food is fuel. Nothing more. I can say, chewing has made me much more aware of texture.

  6. thank u so much for the info.. i had the lapbad for a year and i did not lose any weight' date=' 10 lbs for the whole year. so i had my lapbad removed and had the sleeve on May 15, 2012. date of surgery i was 170 and as of today i am @ 156. to me i am not loosing weght as fast i thought. i called my doc here in nj but he wont see me before august.. according to him i have to wait 3 months.[/quote']

You are starting at a much lower weight, you are not gonna see the dramatic loosest hat are seen in higher BMI patients. The scale is moving in the right direction. Whoo hoo, that's something to celebrate!

  7. Best explanation I've been able to find on the first stall is:

During the first couple weeks after surgery you are not getting much protien, so your body actually consumes some of your bodys muscle to fuel itself. This also helps to explain the rapid weight loss during the first couple weeks.

Then somewhere around the third week you start consuming more protien, at this point your body starts rebuilding the muscle it has lost.

You are still losing fat, but the muscle you are regaining ofsets the weightloss. This is why you are better measuring your progress with a tape measure rather than a scale.

  8. Hello! I am new to this forum! I was sleeved on May 1st' date=' and love it! So far I've lost 43 lbs, but still have 50 to go, and I have not had any carbs for 2 months, and have been working out everyday....... and still, i hit this stall, and have not lost a pound in two weeks!!!!! has this happened to anyone? am I doing something wrong? help!!! dde23[/quote']

Well, will be happy to know, most ppl experience a stall around the 3-4 week mark. Looks like youres waited a while to show up.

No Worries, keep doing the right thing. And actually 2 months out many sleeves are told to increase their caloric intake.

Do you have a NUT? Might be time to give them a visit.

  9. I need help! I don't get full on the supposed 2-3 oz. I can eat a lot more than that! Then I am hungry again in an hour!

If we are talking celery here, there is a reason, celery is mostly Water, so most of it passes straight through to your intestine. If you are not experiencing problems with celery I wouldn't worry about quantity (celery is a negative calorie food). But another thing to consider is that it is nutritionally void.

  10. Hi Tabby,

Well, let's see, before surgery I couldn't walk more than 50-100yards without my back being in pain, my feet swelled &hurt, I damaged my knee, had sleep apnea.

I alienated my family because I didn't want to get up and do anything. My wife was hurt because my interest in sex was gone(she assumed it was her fault).

43days post-op. my back pain is gone, my feet feet still hurt a little, but that's from walking 1/2mile in worn out boots(no notable swelling), my knee looks like its gonna need therapy or surgery, but it's so bad that it can't wait till I drop another 70-80lbs, i can't seem to sleep more than 6 hrs a night then I'm wide awake, gonna wait for goal weight for a new sleep study on that too.

Starting to get up and do stuff with the family more rathe than sitting on the couch. Libido is coming back just a little.

Not a bad start, 43days & I've lost about 1/3 of the weight I intend to, already seeing huge improvements

It's a good idea to write down everything that your weight keeps you from doing or makes a lot harder, also make a list of things you want to do when you lose your weight.

Write down what scares you about the surgery, then be honest with yourself about your fears.

My biggest fear was "what if I die in surgery". My answer was really that's something I've never heard of happening. The only people I've heard of the passed after sleeve are people that went out and abused their sleeve (I mean really bad). Plus if I didn't get the surgery, what kind of life did I really have anyhow, & how long was I gonna keep it? Really, I didn't have a life & life expectancy was getting shorter every year.

I hope this helps, at least a little.

  11. Okay' date=' so here is another question for you all...I have been looking at A Lighter Me, and just generally googling about. They seem to use the same surgeons as Obesity Solutions International....does that seem hinky? Are the two affiliated somehow?

Does anyone know if they are what they say they are, with no hidden costs? And the rate of success that they boast?

As I will be traveling from Canada to get this done I am thinking Mexico is the best option financially...yikes...

I just don't want to go there and be banboozuled. Not to mention I think I am going to go by myself, my hubby wants to go....but.... did you guys take companions?[/quote']

Those are both coordinators. They work with multiple surgeons, and many surgeons work with multiple coordinators. The rate they quote you is typically the surgeons rate, then the surgeon pays them a fee for making arrangements with the client. It's nothing to really be concerned about though you get a quote from each if it makes you feel better.

I'd decide on a surgeon I was comfortable with then deal with the coordinator later.
