Veggie Based Protein?
O.T.R. sleever replied to twistedkitten25's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I've been looking into this since whey is derived from milk, & I'm not a dairy fan. What I have found so far is that most vegetable Proteins are incomplete. They lack essential amino acids. But if you consume several different vegetable proteins you can put together a combination that would supply all your needs. There is an exception to this, keep in mind this is from researching the web, not personal account. Hemp seed protien does contain all 21 known amino acids & can be obtained in a 50% protien to weight ratio, meaning that a 40gram serving nets 20grams of protien. https://store.nutiva.com/hemp-protein/ I would be really interested in any information anybody else has found. -

Inconsiderate Family
O.T.R. sleever replied to LadyIvy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a positive side to this. He really seems to like what you are making. My suggestion would be, address the situation as, "I am really happy that you are enjoying the healthier options I am preparing now, so I am going to make a bit more of them." then when you prepare your dishes prepare a bit more than you do currently & instead of putting everything on one plate or in one bowl invest a little into portion size containers, an appropriate size for him & a potion size for you. Then if he goes into the frige he knows that he can at will grab the "his size" container without reprocussion & he also knows the smaller container is set aside for you to enjoy later rather than just being a plate of something in the fridge that taste good & is convient. We husbands really want our wives to be happy, we simply don't think thing through sometimes. If we're hungry and see food, all we see is a solution to our hunger. We really are that simple... Kinda hard to believe, huh. -

Mental Issues
O.T.R. sleever replied to beachlover1129's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, you should be right where you are at. Everybody loses at different rate, bot you are right in the range that is typically for 3weeks. Next time you look down and think "My 300lb body needs more than this" simply add "if I want ro remain 300lbs". I too am finding hard to believe that the body can survive on so little. But when I add up the caloric intake I also am amazed at how much that tiny amount of food has. My only real concern here is that you are eating solid food @ 3weeks. Have you been cleared for this? Seems a bit premature to me. -

That depends on what you mean. Short term: let's be honest here, this IS a sacrifice. When all your buddies go out drinking, for a while, you can be the designated driver. When they all want to hit up the local fast food chain, you likely will feel out of place or just won't go Long term: you will have a longer, healthier life. You will do things & have experiences that you would likely never have otherwise. You won't be where many of us are right now having the surgery in our 30's, 40's, & 50's looking back saying " why the hell didn't I do this sooner. I wish I could tell you this won't affect your social life. But, hey, aren't you in college now to improve your future? What's the major difference? Except the sleeve has a much better success rate.

Well, all I can say is it's completely normal. If you search "stall" you will likely be overwhelmed with reading material for at least a week. I even read one of the ladies stalled for 4months. -

16 Mos Out...disappointed
O.T.R. sleever replied to tntransplant06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yup, you hit the nail right on the head, it's all about calories. Whether you choose to reduce you're intake or increase the number you burn, that's the only choice As far as it being a failure, I for one don't view it that way, you've lost almost 90lbs!! And comparing your loss to your husbands is simply not fair to you. The simple fact is men& women are different. It may not be politically correct but it's true. Women typically carry much less muscle on them, & they tend to be smaller framed. So if your caloric intake is the same as you're husbands then it does make sense that his loss would be greater. His body burns more calories at rest simply because of the existence of more muscle tissue. Then when you both do the same exercise, he is engaging larger muscles therefore he is burning more calories. I know this really is not what most ladies want to hear, but I hope this helps you. You've come a long way, don't get discouraged now. It's time to adapt & overcome. YOU CAN DO IT -
Oikos Greek Yogurt
O.T.R. sleever replied to reese1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a big yogurt eater, as I believe the body is not designed to digest dairy products. However I have seen several posts where people buy plain yogurt & flavor it with Mio, sounded odd to me, but since multiple ppl say they like it it might be worth a shot. -

My surgeon told me not to lift anything over 12lbs after surgery, I can say I am 12 days out and I have bent that recommendation more than a few times. I have actually gone as far as lifting & carrying 35lb cases of water. I haven't had any problems, but if I do incur any it will be totally my fault. -

O.T.R. sleever replied to Patrick Curl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've not heard of a case yet where the surgeon has gotten into the or & called off a VSG surgery. The few that I have heard being cancelled were due to the patient's health (illness, infections) & those were simply rescheduled for a later date. -
Did You Or Are You Keeping Your Sleeve A Secret?
O.T.R. sleever replied to letsdothis!!!'s topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't volunteer it to anybody except my wife, best friend, & mom. But I also don't consider it a secret, these are the people I talk to the most. If anybody asks notices I don hesitate to lay it out for them. The reason I don't volunteer the news is, it's become my experience that most people have no idea what VSG is and immediately equate it to RNY & all the horror stories tied to it. I simpl don't have the time or desire to educate 1/2 the local population on VSG -

I'm not far enough out for that yet, but, mu post-op diet has me adding many raw veggies back at 4-6 weeks. Just remember to chew the heck out of it & avoid celery.
