    Pre-Op Diet Is Unsuccessful.

Sherry, don't worry, you are gonna be fine. Judging by your avi I'm guessing you are star starting this as a lower BMI sleever. "Only" losing 5 lbs really shouldn't be a problem. Many people read this forum and see staggering numbers posted, and assume if they dont hit the same numbers then something is wrong. This couldn't be further from the truth, we all lose at our own pace. The only guideline that I've found to be reliable is high BMI patients will post higher numbers than low BMI patients will. This is your journey, own it & love it.
  2. Any calcium based antacid(tums) may be good for temporary relief, but the reality is they not only absorb stomach acids, they also stimulate acid production. We really need some sort of PPI
  3. Let's see, it's 0840 west coast, 1140east coast. Wonder if an update is coming soon. Either way surgery should be over. Welcome to your new life.

    ?

The world according to eggface, and Emilybites are 2 great websites/blogs that both have tons of recommendations & ideas on how to make WLS friendly versions of the foods that you remember loving.

    Courious

The key phrase here is "every once in a while". The direct answer is yes, later down the line the occasional slice or taco will be ok. But in reallity your taste will change and the things you remember being so good just won't be as appealing as they once were. You start to realize tha with such a small capacity for food you really don't want to waste it by filling it with garbage that has very little or no nutritional value to it.

    What's Your Drink Of Choice?

This one has me torn, most comonly I would drink Dr. Pepper simply due to availability. But my favorites were Izzy carbonated juices & Stewarts Ginger Beer it's kinda like a spicy ginger ale. To be honest I've tried Dr. Pepper again after surgery & I have to say I was totally not impressed.

    Need Some Advice...

Idiot man checking in here. Really, a week after surgery, I'm not so sure about the 8 hr bus ride. But if you're willing to spring for the flight it shouldn't be a problem. I was on a 4-5 hr flight 72 hrs after my surgery with a layover. The biggest problem I see is this type of celebration is typically celebrated with food and the pressure to eat is often pretty intense. So the keeping it on the downlow poses its own set of obsticals.

    Plication With A Low Bmi

Izuri, I realize that your question was not directed toward me, but I can definitely see why he would be posting here. Plication is more closely related to the sleeve than any other surgery. It is comonly referred to as Gasturic Sleeve Plication. It was originally thought of as a way to make the sleeve reversible. However this has not proven to be the case, many doctors have ceased even offering this surgery due to the high probablilty for complications. As much as I would love to scream "DON'T DO IT!!! " I also have to realize that this is his choice and do what is reasonably within my power to help him make the best, most educated decision he can. I'm actually glad for anybody that has the sleeve option available to them to come here and snoop around, ask questions, etc. His decision is not final yet, if I can be part of him making the best decision for him, then I'm happy doing that, regardless what his decision is.

    Plication With A Low Bmi

I would urge you to check this discussion about plication first & maybe do more research on the procedure. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/45505-plication/
  12. It greatly varies, I had a few cravings the first week or so, & one of my incisions was a bit sore for about 10 days. But other than that, it's been a breeze.

    Hot Dogs?

The trick is moderation. Later on if you decide to have a pickle or a hot dog, or God forbid both on occasion it's not going to send you spiraling out of control.

    Hot Dogs?

Let's see about them turkey dogs. Well, really the fat & calories don't seem too bad(not remotely close to good either), but the sodium is through the roof. Remember this is for 1 dog with no condiments. Start adding stuff & it only gets worse.
  15. Whooo hoo!! Another good report! I haven't had problems getting to sleep, but I have noticed I sleep a lot less

    Help!

Don't worry about nutrition yet. There are plenty of ways to get nutrients you might need other than eating. So I'll mirror what others have said. Focus on hydration.

    Pickles <3

Where's my axe?!?!?! JK. If you look around a bit you'll see that I've done my fair share of cheating. I simply don't advise people to cheat themselves. If someone hurt themselves based on advice I gave, I'd feel horrible.
