Any Over The Road Truck Drivers
O.T.R. sleever replied to phil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Candyman & I were sleeved by Dr. Ponce de Leon in TJ Mx. Very happy with his work, but the two you have listed are quite capable also. As far as the carb thing, our post op diet is very low carb. But to tell you the truth even as much as I loved bread & pasta pre surgery, I really don't miss them now. Food has become something I need for nourishment instead of a comfort. Kinda like fueling, I wish I could just keep going without it, but it is a necessary evil. -

What type of shake are you starting with?

Yup it's a catastrophic policy. Many times this is really all the employer can afford to offer. Health insurance is super expensive, and unfortunately most people just don't realize how much it really costs because their employer covers te majority of the cost. For example a policy that most people would consider "good" to cover my family is $850/mo whereas a high deductible policy is typically 1/2 that cost.

My First Rollercoaster Ride In About 18 Years...

This is great!!! I can't wait. And BTW I completely feel ya on the Ferris Wheel. I am deathly afraid of heights. But I am such an adrenaline junky that I will face that fear for the rush. The wheel has no rush, just fear. At least that's why I won't ride it. -
Any Over The Road Truck Drivers
O.T.R. sleever replied to phil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Phil, Yup I'm a driver, & so is Candyman. Actually we were both sleeved on the same day by the same surgeon, and believe it or not we have both lost right at 70lbs since may 23rd. This is absolutely doable as a driver. There are a few tricks you learn, and a few minor things you'll do differently than people that are home every day but nothing major. I typically run anywhere from 3-8 weeks just depending on what's going on. Are you a company driver or an o/o. It definately helps if you have he ability to modify the inside of your truck a little. A refrigerator, microwave, & large inverter make things quite a bit easier. I for one have started to view buffet restaurants totally different. I use to stop at Chinese buffets regularly because there is always one you can get a truck near. Well, I still go there but now it's because I can get a carry out container load it with Proteins & veggies, pay for only what I want and have 2-3 days worth of food. Protein shakes are a definate necessity, and even though they are a bit more expensive I definately recommend you get them in the individual serving packets. You can carry a much better variety that way in minimal space. One of our biggest obstacles is the time crunch and the logbook. Unfortunately we can't just stop every few hours and eat like most people. Most of what we can do is dictated by the load & the logbook. So with this in mind you need to have a clear plan in mind about what you are going to eat & when. I typically keep high protein Snacks close because I really want to avoid skipping meals. If its meal time & I just can't stop, I'll reach into the overhead and grap a Protein Bar or a small pack of turkey Jerky. Also I always keep a couple cases of Water under the bunk. That's the primary drinkable liquid in my truck. I've got tons of flavorings & protein powders to mix in with it. I also keep a couple 1qt cartons of almond or coconut milk just for an occasional different flavor. This can definately be done. Especially now that TA & Petro have fitness rooms in most of their facilities. I won't say it's easy, but what in a drivers life is? If you need any advice I'm happy to be of assistance. Don't hesitate to PM me. -
All I will say to this is for a treatment that was discovered some 60+ - years ago it sures seems to ride the wave of popularity like every other weight loss fad out there. I promise you it will fall out of favor again soon (just like it has numerous times) and it will come back about 5years later being touted as a great discovery.

First of all HCG is nothing even remotely new. Ive been hearing about this miracle pregnancy hormone sporaticly for close to 20years. Let's be honest with ourselves here, if it was really that good, it would be everywhere. Your doctor would be all but begging you to try it.

Complications W Mexico Vsg?
O.T.R. sleever replied to butter-fly's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I definately wouldn't go as far as saying that there are no complications in Mexican sleeve surgeries. But I am quite confident in saying they are signifigantly less common. With surgery in Mexico, you are in direct face to face contact with your surgeon for 3-5 days after surgery, the immediate aftercare is much more thorough. If there is a problem, it is more likely to be found before you return home. Not to mention that top Mexican surgeons are far more experienced in this surgery than American or Canadian surgeons are, typically having performed as much as 10 times as many procedures as their counterparts. The typical stay after an American surgery is overnight, and I have heard of people leaving the same day. If by some slim chance you do have a serious complication on a surgery that was performed in Mexico, your choices would be to go back to your surgeon in Mexico, or if that is not an option then you may have to go to the ER. Most Mexican surgeons offer an insurance that in the case of complications it will cover all medical expenses incurred to include emergency flights back to Mexico. Most doctors don't make a habit f mentioning them because the insurance is so rarely needed. It really is more of a piece of mind thing than a good financial investment. The only way I would buy the insurance is if the fear of complication was so great that it was keeping you from getting the surgery. -
How The Hell Do You Drink Isopure?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Carrie's Journey's topic in Food and Nutrition
Because, the body can use carbs or protein as fuel. With very low carb consumption protein makes up the fuel that you are not getting from carbs. Plus protein is essential in the bodies restorative process. In all likelihood you were probably getting as much protein or more before your surgery. You just weren't paying as much attention to it because it was in he food you were enjoying. -

So, let me get this right....... There is this "magic" hormone that makes you lose weight, but it only works if you adhere to a strict 500 calorie no carb/ no sugar diet?....... What am I missing here? You are eating 500cal per day and no carbs or sugars. That's why you are losing weight. I'm betting ths HCG stuff makes it so if you exercise at the same time you lose even faster. I'm sorry, but on a similar diet I lost 37lbs in a month, but I didn't have any "magic" hormone pulsing through my veins. All I had was a smaller stomach & my caloric intake was more like 800/day. Hasn't everybody heard it enough? Every weight loss gimmick out there claims, "with our product & diet & exercise" you'll lose weight. Forget all the gimmicks you've got the tool to help you control your diet, you can do the exercise. Keep the extra money in your pocket, your gonna need it for new clothes.

How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
O.T.R. sleever replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would like everybody to take a minute and think about how the world treated you being overweight. People are judgmental, harsh, and unforgiving. It is quite possible to disagree with model's decisions an not be judgemental. Don't be like all those people that hurt us because we weren't small enough You don't have to condone her decision (I don't) but please be a better person than those that persecuted us. -
How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
O.T.R. sleever replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elcee, I think you missed something. She has good reason to be secretive about some things. SHE WAS NEVER OVERWEIGHT She said she had to go to Mexico because nobody she contacted in Thailand was willing to band her with a normal BMI (which I commend those doctors for) She said she was at he high end of normal BMI (high normal is 25) but used the band to get to the low end (low normal is 18.5) I would suspect that by her screen name, and her willingness to jump through hoops to maintain a very low BMI that her motivation is carrier driven. Whether she is a model, or is aspiring to be one. She is willing to go to great lengths to accomplish her goal. -
Rating Protein Shakes
O.T.R. sleever replied to morswestford's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm betting it will taste fine. But I've got some really bad news about it. Look at the first ingredient. It's a Gelatin also known as collagen. This type of Protein is simply not useable by the human body. http://www.nutragenics.net/bestbody%20supps%20info/bestprotein.htm Hopefully this will help explain -

Has Anyonen Ever Failed With The Sleeve?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Chills562's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kind of , yes, it is structured like most 12 step programs and turns to "God as you might know him" or a "higher power". Many times these programs are facilitated through a religious organization.
