You might check your local community college. Many have clothing exchanges for professional attire. -
How to get enough protein
O.T.R. sleever replied to lilricanliz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't mind repeating myself, I fear that I will be viewed as the "anti Protein shot guy". I'll continue to try to steer people away from collagen/gelatin as long as I am here. I just don't want to get pigeon holed, much like Iggy has been. Unfortunately her story has gotten lost, and many people label as the angel of doom without understanding how she came to her perspective. I just don't want to fall into that trap. Because much like her, I have so much more to offer. -

How Is It Possible to Lose This Quickly?
O.T.R. sleever replied to Mason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another thing to consider is your BMR is is calculated on a completely sedentary lifestyle (bedridden). Anything you do burns calories in addition to your BMR. simply getting out of bed burns calories. Did you by chance calculate your caloric intake before you started this journey? I consistently was over 5000 & often over 10,000. Without additional calorie burn I should have gained about a lb or more everyday. -

Here's a few more good experiences. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47767-anyone-have-a-relatively-easy-recovery-story/ Also if you've had a good experience, please add yourself to that thread. Never hurts to keep it growing. -
Don't be scared of the urge to eat after surgery, I can all but promise you that you will have unbelievably strong cravings for the first few days. It's called head hunger, we all go through it. Just be ready, know what you're dealing with. The good news is , the intense cravings are short lived. They will for the most part be gone within a week or so.

Hey Frank, Thanks for sharing, glad to hear your surgery was so uneventful. Unfortunately those of us that had no problems just don't say it enough. But honestly most surguries go quite well. It might be time to revive the "good recovery" thread. -
are there any sleevers here who have had leaks from cheating on their post op diets?
O.T.R. sleever replied to leeann71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no doubt that it is possible that it is possible to create a leak by introducing solids or over eating early on. One thing you have to remember is the nerves in your stomach are basicly sent into shock when the surgery takes place. You lose the vast majority of sensation for a period of time. I wish I could remember the post, but, one of our members works for a bariatric surgeon and has seen a number of leaks for this exact reason. She has even told about a man that ruptured his staple line the day he left the hospital, and died. -
Complete failure
O.T.R. sleever replied to kmbrlycool's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get rid of the carbs. Breads, pastas, rice, potatoes, sugary sweets. They have this magic ability to trigger cravings for more of them. Resetting is a really good idea. Remember though, if you've been overindulging in simple carbs, you will likely have to fight the head hunger again. This is exactly why I believe that we should avoid certain foods. You've done it once, you can do it again. Don't forget your food journal. You have to know exactly where you are at so you don't return to it. -
4 days out and having second thoughts
O.T.R. sleever replied to dreamerfalava's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WHOA!!! You are 4days post op. Step away from the protein. You shouldn't even be thinking about protein yet. This early out your focus should be hydration. Once you meet the minimum daily Water intake then add protein. You can trust, every day will get a bit better, and in a couple weeks this won't even qualify as a bad memory. Keep your chin up. Soon your biggest battle will be staying off the scale. -

Best Strawberry Protein?
O.T.R. sleever replied to sars's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Unjury makes a strawberry flavor. It's pretty sweet to me though. Same with Nectar. -
Your skin will continue to shrink for up to 2 years. I'd recommend waiting till then.

Did anyone else fail the 2 week pre-op diet...
O.T.R. sleever replied to Huntingnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I would be shocked if a day went by and someone didn't post that they "cheated" on this forum. I can assure you, you are not in the minority, most people that have pre-op diets slip. I'd be willing to bet that your surgeon expects to hear that you slipped, now that you are in the home stretch be extra vigilant. Pre-op diets vary so greatly that I really feel that most of it isn't physically necessary, but rather a mental preparation. I do notice that pretty much everyone requires a very strict diet the last 2-3 days. Are you excited yet? -

KK, First thing I would like to ask is please fill out your profile. Whenever I come across a post like this the first thing I do is check the posters profile so that I can get a non bias perspective. Your height , surgery weight, current weight, and date of surgery all come into play when running calculations. Believe me, running the numbers really helps. Especially once you reach the end of the "honeymoon phase". It sounds to me that you have moved into the second phase of weightloss. I lost over 80lbs in my first 5 months now, 2 months later I've managed to lose an additional 15...... Did you catch that? 15lbs in 2months. That's 7.5lbs/month. It's all part of the process, we simply cannot continue to lose at the rate we started. Remember when we started this journey we were told the average loss is 60-70% in the first 2 years? Well, I bet if you do the math, you are way ahead of that curve. It's time now for your body to slow down a bit. Rejoice in how far you've come, & the fact that you are still losing. Which way was the scale moving last year at this time?

Our restrictions are primarily for solid foods. liquids pass through the stomach pretty quickly and therefore aren't really affected by our sleeves. Another thing to consider is foods that are almost all water, like watermelon, are much in themselves like drinking & eating at the same time. The water contained in them will flush the fiberous portion through our sleeves much more quickly. Portion Control is even more important with these, because they are so easy to "cheat" with. The more dense the food you are eating the better your restriction works.

Frequently Asked Questions
O.T.R. sleever replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is most often too big of bites, eating too fast or not chewing well enough. The body is trying to lubricate the the food so tgat it will move down.
