  1. I don't disagree, the thread got way out of hand. Basically it turned into fight, and unfortunately you unintentionally stepped into the middle of a fight and got punched in the mouth. I'm sorry that it happened. If you question was asked in a less heated situation, I'm betting you wouldn't have gotten the response you did. I'm not justifying the one who snapped at you, just trying to add some perspective.

    Does this happen to anyone?

I'd really like more details, such as What is "anything"? And what do you consider "little bits(bites?)"? How well are you chewing your food? Judging by your surgery date, I'm assuming you've been on full solids for a couple weeks now. You should be swallowing very well masticated, tiny portions, no bigger than an almond(without the shell). If that is what you are doing & still have problems swallowing then its time to see the Doc. You may have a fistula. It's basically where during the healing process the opening to your stomach becomes restricted. Whether it is due to a simple constriction or the healing process grew additional tissue there, I'm not sure. The good news is, even if you do have one, the treatment is a very simple in & out office visit procedure.

    RIP Lappy ;(

The fact of the matter is, we did experience a couple trolls that made up fake stories to elicit a response. Unfortunately since then we have a few members that like to claim every imperfect experience from a new member is another troll. I offer you my apologies, and assure you that that is not the norm here, and we are working to amend these problems.

Ok, some of the sleeve basics. Healing: You're suture line is typically considered healed at 6 weeks post-op. would will feel a lot of restriction while eating solid foods due to swelling of the stomach tissue. Typically your stomach capacity at 4-6 weeks for solids (assuming your doc allows them) will be about 2oz and will slowly grow to 8-10oz. Maximum capacity is typically reached in 8-12mo, however @ 6 months you'll likely be very close to maximum. Keep in mind these are common case scenarios. Your mileage may vary. Provided you make it to the 6week mark without any complications & almost all do, your chances for complications after that are almost non existent. I think you'll be very happy with your new sleeve. I understand that this is all a bit of a shock for you, but keep looking around the forum, you find tons of ex-bandsters that say the sleeve is exactly what the band was promised to be but never delivered.
  5. Why would anybody be afraid of li'l ole me. U use to be a big teddy bear, now I can't even claim big. Now you've got me wondering if I come across overly aggressive.
  6. I find it so amusing how far people go to look like they are eating more. It seems odd to me. I'll tell you, I've been to several lunches with customers & as a customer. Also as a business meeting. Honestly I've never experienced anybody paying any attention to how much anyone else eats (well, maybe if someone were eating for 3 people). I'd recommend ordering exactly what you'd like, and request your server box 1/2 of your meal before it is brought to the table.
  7. Once again we've resorted to calling each other names & backbiting. C'mon people! Have a bit of decency. I don't believe for one second that everybody has to be kind all the time, but, if you can't post your opinion without using a bit of tact, then don't post it at all. I swear sometimes its like watching teenagers fight on Facebook.

    Second time around

Since this is a sleeve forum I would venture to say that most of us would recommend the sleeve over the band. I think we might be just a tad less than objective. In the interest of giving you tons of anti-band rhetoric, I'll recommend that you check out the thread "Is the band really that bad" or you could check out our band to sleeve revision section. There is also a sister site to us called LapBand Talk. But keep in mind they are a bit partial too.

    Do you remember Patrick?

Lol. Patrick Curl is his screen name. I am really interested in his journey mostly because he had a high weight of almost 700lbs, to know how far the sleeve takes him is really a big testimony to our tools. BTW here is a link to his latest thread. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/62139-weight-loss-pics-from-my-highest-699-to-540-4-months-post-op/

Over 400Lbs Gastric Sleeve Success Story

Here's a link to Big Frank's thread. He is the most recent 450lb +- success story. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/63473-new-guy-here-youve-got-to-read-this/ We have seen numerous 400lb+ successes come through here. Only problem is that (I'm assuming) they get so involved in their new lives, they forget about us. Which reminds me of Patrick. Starting at 660lbs, I haven't seen a post from him in some time, but last report from another member that sees him occasionally is that he is doing great. Here's a link to his latest post. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/62139-weight-loss-pics-from-my-highest-699-to-540-4-months-post-op/

    Tijuana Dr Garcia

I'm assuming the reference is to dr. ponce de leon in TJ Mexico, & not Dr. Ponce in Chatanooga. Whether or not he "always" does surgeries the day of arrival IDK, but he did do mine that way. I was out of surgery 6hours after my plane landed in San Diego. I was a bit surprised since I had originally been scheduled for the following day, but in hind site I feel it was better this way. Since my flight home was already scheduled, this allowed for an extra night post-op should any problems have arisen, which they did not.

Welcome Lisa. This a great place to both glean and share experience. We do have our fair share of emotional posts & responses, as I'm sure you would expect having your experience. I hope you enjoy our little community.
  14. LW, There is a bit of a misunderstanding here. In this case, Iggy was not being snarky. Your surgeon really was the one who came to her rescue when she went through her ordeal.

  16. Thanks Dawg for pointing out the whole protein thing. I know OP stated that she is going to cut her protein in half at least for the next couple weeks. Lets look at this a bit closer. As originally stated, 120g of protein from liquids alone. Plus she is eating also. Well, even the best protein supplements are 100calories per 20g protein. If she is using a meal replacement shake, like ensure, for protein, then you can quickly quadruple that number. So without even going to weight gainers we have anywhere from 600-2400 calories a day from liquids. Additionally she is eating also, we do not know what or how much. It is quite possible that even with a proper sleeve to over consume and gain weight. I for one have never experienced any restriction to liquids. I could easily consume 10,000 calories/day on a liquid diet if I so chose to. I've seen it numerous times on this forum where people get sleeved and run straight for the highest calorie proteins they can get. I am not saying that this is what the OP did or that this is her fault, I am simply pointing out that there are a lot of assumptions being made in this thread. To assume that any surgeon would botch a surgery intentionally or simply not perform the surgery while claiming to have done so IMO is pretty preposterous. With the amount of liability surgeons assume every time they cut into a patient it would take an idiot (one not smart enough to get through med school) to even consider this. As to the possibility of a stretched sleeve(pouch). IF the sleeve was properly formed, it is not going to stretch. However, if the surgeon failed to remove the fundus then, yes the fundus that is left will still be pliable. Though this is possible, I don't believe it could have been stretched much in such a short time frame. Keep in mind the only thing that is going to stretch the fundus is solid foods. I am not making any assumptions as to what the problem is, however the only 2 conclusions that I can reasonably come to is that either the sleeve was not formed correctly and thus, a "resleeve" should be performed, or there are too many liquid calories being consumed. Well, I guess there is a third "reasonable" possibility. It could be a combination if the two. Any which way, I wish the OP a sipped resolution. And a happy life. AND YES, we have had members that have experienced improperly formed sleeves which didn't function properly. As a matter of fact, I know both Dr. Ponce de Leon, and Dr. Aceves have performed resleeve a for that exact reason.

    vitamin question

B12 is a water soluble vitamin. It's nearly impossible to get too much. The body will simply flush what it can't use. Check out energy supplements. Many of them contain 1000% or more of the daily allowance of B12.

    Am I approved?

Scoping isn't bad at all. They just send a camera down your throat to make sure you don't have excessive acid erosion that could cause problems after surgery. It's actually a good sign that they are taking that precaution. Many Docs don't.
