What are february sleevers eating?
buplee replied to lwilliams65's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was eating scrambled eggs with cheese for breakfast, 2 oz smoked turkey and 1 oz cheese rolled, dinner is sometime of baked seafood usually crab cakes or red snapper. I tried chicken twice which good stuck and a few other solids which did the same. I tried going out to dinner with my family and only ordered appetizers, which did not go down well either. After eating 400-500 calories and then 600-650, drinking my water and being active, the scale did not move very much. I have since stopped eating or have gone back to liquids. Yesterday was Easter and while my family enjoying the typical items (ham, turkey, Mac n cheese, vegetables, and having dessert. I had yogurt and 1 crab cake. I have spent days just eating yogurts and gelatin 20, or protein shakes to meet my protein goals. However, there have been days where I took in only enough protein and water to sustain myself. It has definitely been a tough road. -

buplee replied to mikeross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for this forum and the various replies. I am new an sustaining myself on 600-700 calories daily since being sleeved 6 weeks ago. Tried eating sorts but some things were not worth the discomfort and went back to liquids. My wife said I am screwing up my metabolism. Should I betraying to get down my sifts and getting in more calories? -
Took a sip of wine and my wife's drink with dinner. Felt it burning all the way down. I am not sure when I will try again. Anyone else experience this after tying alcohol?

Sleeved on 2/19 and still recovering from extensive spinal surgery three months before being sleeved. I just got approval to start exercising and hope the scale will start to move more.

52 and wondering what to expect
buplee replied to KlassyKat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'll be 52 on Tuesday. Had the surgery because I want to be thin. I have been up and down for most of my life and wanted to end the cycle. I ha d to fight with Aetna for 18 months before finally been sleeved on 2/19, I had no comorbities other than a bmi of 47 so Aetna said I too healthy. I have lost 38lbs including pre-op but only 6 in the last three weeks and feeling discouraged. I have not cheated and am following instructions as directed. Is this normal or am I expecting too much at my age? What should I realistically expect in terms of weight loss? -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
buplee replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for your response Lady. I have been eating seafood and other sorts but it takes me so long to finish. I have tried turkey burgers which I chew and chew and it still get stuck. I tried hash and an egg, the egg went down but the hash did not. I eat slowly and chew until there is nothing left. I have gotten so tired of eating and seeing not much change. I have become so discouraged, that I have gone back to my pre and stage 1 diet to see if that helps move the dial. My wife is telling me to go back to my stage 3 diet, but I am just beaten down. My brother in law had a gastric bypass 5 weeks before me and has lost 65 lbs. I keep wondering what is wrong with me -
FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

I was also sleeved on 2/19 and I am getting in my proteins and was doing fine with water until a few days ago. I wait an hour after eating proteins but feel a little queasy trying to get in my water. I am down 38lbs but have only lost 4 lbs in the last two weeks and feeling discouraged. I was doing fine with everything until I saw the numbers on the scale. I was a foodie before surgery, and now I don't care what or if I eat. I am in phase three on softs but have had such difficulties eating, I have gone back to liquids. Any suggestions on how to break this? -
I'm stalled :( NEED encouragement!
buplee replied to TXBell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Correction, I checked my food log, I am getting in an average of 600-700 calories daily, as I am not finishing all of my soft foods. However, the protein count is correct. I make up the proteins from the sources stated in my previous post. -

I am taking it 800-850 calories a day. I have 1 egg with 1 oz low fat cheese in the morning (total 180 calories- 20 gms protein), Lunch is either a shake with skim milk (135 calories-33 grams protein) or sashimi 3-4oz ( 200 calories- 26 grams protein), and dinner is 3-4oz of seafood, usually crab cakes (200 calories-23 grams protein. Sometimes, I have a butterball turkey burger ( 220 calories-31 grams of protein for 4 ounces, but I usually only have 3oz). For a snack, I have no fat Greek yogurt 80-140 calories with 13 grams of protein or a gelatein 20, which has 78 calories and 20 grams of protein. However, the latter is only when I need to reach my protein goals. I start water early morning so I can get in my 64oz. -
When I mentioned vitamin E earlier, I meant vitamin E oil. My doctor also endorses it as highly effective for scars.

By the way - when I said vitamin E, I meant vitamin E oil. My doctor also endorses it as one of the best remedies.

I keep my proteins between 70-90 grams daily and have been active and getting in my water daily but have hit a two week stall. The scale has not moved and I am doing everything as directed. I too am discouraged but see that I am not alone. Any suggestions on how to break out of this? I was sleeved on 2/19 and I am 38 lbs down including pre-op. -
I may have fallen off the wagon :'(
buplee replied to MzGray29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My family is thin and I encouraged them to continue eating as they did before my surgery, although my wife has changed her eating habits. This means that there is junk food in the house all the time. I walk past them in the kitchen and I have even bought some for the household while shopping. However, I have not given into temptation. I look at the reason I had the surgery and have decided eating junk is not an effective way to get the nutrition I need. I am looking forward to being thin and will let nothing derail me from that. It is good you are reflecting but now it is time for you to take control and leave the things that caused you to have surgery in the past. That is not to say you won't cheat from time to time along your journey, but do that making the right choices. BTW- I was sleeved on 2/19 so I am new like you and have lost a total of 38lbs including my pre-op. I have been in a stall for the last two weeks following my plan. I am discouraged by the stall but won't use that as an excuse to fall off the wagon. Good luck to you on your journey and for reaching out to the forum for support. -
I use vitamin E which is cheaper and just as effective as other more expensive products for scars. My wife buys a good size bottle from the vitamin section at Walgreens.

I lost in my face first but my wife noticed other areas as well. -

My wife was mortified when I showed her your post as well as the nutritional content of some of the other fast food ads the forum posted. My wife always said, fast food and super sizes portions along with no self-control is why Americans are no heavy. We noticed when we travel throughout Europe most countries eat several small meals a day.

Since my surgery, I can't get over how many commercials are fast food related. I think I used to ignore them or consider them normal.

FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved
buplee replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I first started soft, I maybe got down 1-1.5 ounces. After a week I was able to get down 3 ounces of protein. However, it takes me up to 1 hour to do so. -
Protein shakes are nasty to me - help!
buplee replied to luckysmomma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I get sick of regular protein shakes, I try nectar protein drinks. The come in flavors like wild cherry, lemonade, lemon iced tea, etc. Maybe these may work for you. You can find them and other flavors at mybariatricpantry.com. -
My surgeon used a size 36 bougie. I was getting in my proteins via shakes but initially had an issue getting in fluids. I am now on three meals daily and have recently been able to get in my 64 ounces of water a day. Previously, I was only getting maybe 30 ounces of fluids in total. I sometimes have trouble getting food down, so getting full proteins from food only has been a challenge.
-
Have you tried upping your Water and Protein intake? I would also cut down on cards and sugars. Upping activity should also help end your stall.

I we sleeved on 2/913 after fighting with Aetna for 1.5 years. I too wish I had done this earlier after losing large amounts of weight and gaining ll back plus more. I was initially going to get the band, but knew three people who had multiple issues with it. I wanted a more set it and forget it procedure where I did not have to go in for endless fills. My neighbor lost 100 lbs over the course of 2 years but had Fluid taken out for his wedding last year and did not go back for fills. He now has to lose 75lbs, and he also has had numerous port infections and replacements. This forum and my wife helped to make the decision to get the sleeve. I am now 35lbs lighter and looking forward to more loss of weight and the new me.
