  1. I tell people who don't know about my surgery, that I have done it through portion control and getting more exercise which is mostly true. People are nosey and in some case, so much that it is uncomfortable and intrusive. No one has a right to know more than you want them to know.
  2. I was sleeved on 2/19 and went through a stall which last two weeks and broke in a big way when I increases my protein and water intake. I am now down 56lbs. I was initially disappointed when I went to my first post-op appointment because at that time I had only lost 17lbs. Hang in there we have all been there.

    How will this be different?

I think we all share similar experiences with food. I would eat everything on my plate and then help my wife finish her meal as well. I was also not a big snicker, I ate high calorie, high fat food and because of chronic pain did not move much because of it. I have had several surgery and still have pain but at least I am moving more now. I had just opposite experience with my wife, she was the one who was onboard from the beginning. When I kept saying I can do this without surgery she supported me on my decision. When I lost 60, 70, 90,105lbs and gained it all back, she supported me. When I was ready to have surgery and fought my insurance company she was right there with me. My wife told me she was happy that I had the surgery because she was tired of my struggles with my weight and she has known me for much of my life. Have a heart to heart with your husband and let him know that you and he can never be truly happy until you are happy with yourself. Trust me I have spent most of my life hating myself because I was of a normal weight like so many others. I too did not like my wife being viewed as a chubby chaser and we avoided, certain vacation places and activities because of my weight, she didn't want us to be uncomfortable. Tell him about all the things you and he will be able to do once you are lighter and will be able to stay that way for life.

    February Sleevers

You can go to a website 1saleaday.com or amazon to find them. They range from $30-200. The one I got was really accurate it was within 1 pound of the o e my doctor has.

    February Sleevers

I got a special scale which measures body weight, bmi, water weight, bone density, muscle mass, etc. I also went to my doctor who had a professional scale with the same measurements for confirmation.

    Where are the 50s ???

Sleeved on 2/19 and 56lbs down. I never thought I would get there so quickly at age 52.

    February Sleevers

I can drink water but forget after waiting 45-60 mins after eating. I did a body analysis which said I am technically dehydrated.

    And so it begins!

It took me about 10 days to lose the weight.
  13. Congrats to you. I past the half century weight loss mark as well.

    And so it begins!

I lost weight by going with two protein shakes a day and a small dinner at night. That combination helped me lose the last 12-15 lbs I needed.
  15. I may be alone in this but I have been looking at the unhealthy foods people eat while shopping in the mall, or while out socially in a restaurant. I was in the mall and saw an overweight man sitting at a table eating a triple burger, large fries, and what looked like a vat of soda. It really angered me. I thought to myself- how could he do that to himself? Please sound off and let me know if I am being crazy and judgmental or if you have had the same thought.
  16. My wife said the best thing for our family was for me to get sleeved. My mother has always been overweight and suffers from high blood pressure, insulin dependent diabetes, and high cholesterol. Since I was sleeved, she has lost 14lbs in the last month. It now bothers me to big people eating huge quantities of food, but to each their own. I am happy it is not me any longer. I won't judge them but it is hard for me to see it none the less.

My confession. I fell of the wagon

I am happy you felt comfortable enough on the forum to be so open and honest. We are all here for you.
  18. I also pay more attention to what people eat and remember that was me. I can't believe I used to eat that way. I wanted to make sure I was not being judgmental, I guess I don't understand the rationale to be unhealthy anymore.

Is Sleeving the easy way out?

Not at all. To go through what we have to pre and post-op was not easy. However, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Psych Evaluation

The psych eval is just to see if you are sane enough to understand your decision to have wls. I would suggest a few more sessions would be helpful to help you come to terms with you decision to have surgery and deal with your relationship with food. . You don't want to be like some people who had surgery and yet lament about not having their unhealthy lifestyle and being able to eat large quantities of food. It was very helpful to me but that is my opinion which some people don't share. Whatever you decide to do, good luck on your journey.
  21. I too was initially going to get banded. My wife and three friends and this forum convinced me otherwise. The three friends all have the lap band and al initially lost a lot of weight. All three have had their ports replaced at least twice, one had two infections in the port as well. Their respective surgeons tried to get each of them to go sleeve or bypass as each had several health issues. They all told me about the trips to the office for fills and how they wished they had gone with other procedures but did not like how invasive the other procedures were. One still has his band is complains about all the things he can't eat. One had his band slip and it needs to come out. The last got married had all of the Fluid taken out for his wedding, and honeymoon and just recently went back in for a fill after 1.5 years. He now has to start all over and has 90lbs to lose. My wife wanted me to have amore set it and forget it method, and did not want anything foreign in my body. I suffered from and recovered from a double whammy of a strep and staph infection which almost killed me and she wanted me to take no chances. Whatever you decide, this forum and a good support team can help you make the right decision for you. I think the majority of people on this forum are happy with their respective decisions to get sleeved. Good luck to you.
