Surgery 8/1, Dreading Pre-Op Diet And New App

I bought Atkins shakes the night before and did not like them! After work yesterday I went to the vitamin Shoppe and got some samples and their most recommended one, Syntha-6 in chocolate, I LOVE IT! I don't usually care for chocolate drinks but this one is good. They did not have any samples so I had to buy the big bucket of it but I was ok with this seeing they will let you exchange it if you don't like it. I do have moments when I start having cravings and miss having something crunch or something to actually chew, sugar free popsicles have been a life saver for me. Whenever I get tired of only having liquids I go get a Popsicle or two and then I am satisfied.

Glad you like the app! I LOVE it as well, I was looking for something more like a ticker which I didn't find but choose this one as the next best. I am up past midnight most nights so i love looking at the app when it has changed.

Surgery 8/1, Dreading Pre-Op Diet And New App

Hi Scorpion, I am a big "why person" as well. I knew I had to figure out the reason for the pre-op diet in order to be able to sucessfully stick to it. Here is you answer and some addtl info provided by my Dr's office: Because the liver lies over the area of the stomach where we are doing most of your surgery, you may be asked to lose some weight before your surgery. The weight loss will help shrink the liver and make the surgery easier, faster, and safer for you and the surgeon. Pre-Surgery Diet: 1. Begin a liquid diet one week prior to surgery. You may consume any liquids that are not high in calories (NO MILKSHAKES). 2. Begin Protein and Vitamin supplements at least one week prior to surgery. You can find these by going to our website and ordering. www.drwbarker.com 3. Drink a minimum of 64 oz of fluids per day. 4. Stop Plavix, Asprin, and anti-inflammatory medications (i.e. anything containing Salicylic Acid, Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, Celebrex, Vioxx, Bextra, etc.) – 10 days prior to surgery. Tylenol products are acceptable The more informed you are the more comfortable you will be with your decision. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I started off motivated this morning but the cravings are beginning to kick in! I have to keep reminding myself my reasons for doing this and that time is going to go by fast. Whew, is it 8/1 yet?

    Bitter Sweet....

I'm in a bit of a funk this morning, I start my liquid diet tomorrow as my surgery is 8/1 and I feel as if I'm having to break up with a boyfriend. I've had what i call my "food bucket list" of all the things and places I wanted to eat before I started my diet and I have at most all of it but I still feel sad. I know what I am feeling is probably normal and it doesn't help that TOM is right around the corner. I knew I was going to have a more difficult time before surgery since I wouls be PMSing but there was NO way I was going to reschedule. I few rough days will be a small price to pay for the joy I will soon have. I can't wait to be on the loser's bench. I also wanted to share an app/widget with my fellow Android users, it counts down the days until surgery and I did another one for the count down until my liquid diet- The app is called Days Left, I attached a screen shot of the home screen of my phone so you guys can see what it looks like.
  10. My surgery is 8/1, I plan on going through my closet today as well. I have all sizes and think I will pull out the smaller sizes and keep then sorted by sizes in a box or something.
  11. I have been waiting to go on a nice vacation until i am smaller and healthier. I can't wait to be able to wear all the cute clothes and look nice in them, oh and how I miss my heels!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I forgot to add I'm 28 and i'm currently at 335 pounds. I'm wanting to lose about 130-140 pounds. Whew, that is a lot of excess weight - an entire person. Oh well, that is what we are all here for.
  13. Woohooo, I finally have my sugery date !! I realized last night that it will be my time of the month on the day I am scheduled for surgery; I am wondering has anyone else had surgery during TOM. I really do not want to cancel and in a way rather do all my "suffering" at one time and get it over with but I am concerned that it will be too much on my body. Although we never know what we will truly feel like ahead of time I have a feeling that I am going to be one of those that are able to get around well and not sick after surgery. I would love to hear from anyone who has thoughts on this or has experienced it. Thanks! BTW - my surgery is scheduled for 8/1 :D

    Complications

I read so many threads of people who have experienced complications, it seems there are far more people who have experienced some sort of complication vs those who have not. I am fully aware that there is the possibilty of risks and complications with any surgery however it scares me reading about so many people that have them. I've tried to talk myself out of it by thinking the people who did not have complications are more likely to be off enjoying their new found lives and not posting as often as compared to those that have complications and are seeking advice or just wanting to share their experienve. Do anyone know of a site or anything that will provide data as to the number of patients that experience complications? I would love to hear from all that have any thoughts about this topic. I have my mind set on the sugery however I am the type of person who likes to be fully prepared for all possibilties.

    Finally...

I am too excited to concentrate! I have been calling my Dr's office two or three times a day to find out if they had all of the required paperwork and then to see if they had submitted me to insurance. I was told on yestersday that I'd been submitted but I called the insurance company to confirm and I hadn't been. I called the Dr's office AGAIN today and left a couple of messages, I got a returned call saying that they actually submitted the paperwork today. Called the insurance company and THEY HAVE THEM!!!! To my suprise they have to make a decision w/in five business days. I am truly hoping to have a decsion by the weekend but I am prepared to have to wait the full five days. Since making my final decision of proceeding with surgery I have been excited to know that w/in a couple of months I may no longer have to deal with swollen feet and ankles, the seatbealt poking me in my butt and all the other issues that come with being overweight.

    Complications

@Aspiring Evangelist, no need to apologize! I came to this site seeking real life people with real life experiences and that is what I have gotten. I am happy to hear that your buyer's remorse only lasted one day. I am hoping that I do as well as you have. @Lissa, thank you for your response. I always enjoy and appreciate hearing from you. I agree, I have also told people the same thing, that I am not promised to return from work w/out having a fatal accident so there is a huge risk in everyday life itself. I have also searched and read that most people who experience complications still do no regret having the procedure once all the complications have been taken care of.
