  1. I have participated in numerous anesthesia inductions and I don't think that is from the tube or bougie. Unless you were a difficult induction and a "fasttrack" had to be used, the tube will not do all that damage. I would recommend a strep culture be done and request some antibiotics.
  2. Wow, I was cleared for alcohol two weeks post op. But I gotta tell ya that first sip of alcohol it felt like my entire sleeve was on fire. That's when I knew that perhaps I needed a little more time before going there again.

    May Sleeve Buddies!

Sleeved may 1st and down 19lbs so far!
  5. I am approx. 4 weeks post op and had this happen to me starting in week two. When I felt this tired, i went outside and walked. It was hard being so tired but once I actually started walking my body woke up and before I know it I had walked 2.5 miles. Then I couldn't sleep until 11:30pm If at work, get up and walk around even if just for a little bit and see if getting moving helps. I admit some days I just couldn't get myself out the door but on the days I did, I felt so much better afterwards.

    Any May Sleevers Here?

May 1st for me. 3 weeks out and I am walking 3 miles 3-4 times a week. All incision pain is gone but hardening scar tissue under the larger incision. Doc says to roll it around to prevent it from dimpling. I no longer am on any high blood pressure medicine. Down 18lbs and haven't had this much energy since high school. I still struggle with taking all the required meds per day. I am slowly starting to incorporate soft foods into the diet such as tuna, eggs, cheese etc... Oh and never have I have I been so happy to be a LOSER!

    Surgery Failed Today!

I'm sorry you are in pain but ur doc did the right thing. U can't tell you have an enlarged liver from bloodwork unless ur actual liver function is effected by it. When doing the sleeve surgery the doc has to be able to lift up the liver in order to complete the stapling all the way up to the esophagus area. Too large of a liver and he cannot safely do this because he cannot see where he needs to staple. I have seen this many times in the OR and trust me when I say it's better to abort than to proceed ahead. The liver is not an organ u wanna mess with. I'm sorry again for the pain. Go back on ur preop diet to help shrink the liver and before u know it you will have had a successful sleeve surgery!

Protein How Do You Get It In

I got my ahi tuna steaks in the frozen seafood section at costco. 3lbs for $30 but at only 3 oz per meal it's well worth it.
  9. Are u running a fever, and redness AROUND the incision sites, oozing from incision sites. These are local and systemic signs of infection. If so, call doc. If not then mostly likely just gas. Walk, and walk some more.

Protein How Do You Get It In

I find foods that are heavy on Protein. One of my favorites is ahi tuna. 7 grams of protein per oz. I found the power crunch bars are heavy on protein, taste good, and are wafers so not as filling as say perhaps a denser protein bar. chicken, eggs, string cheese, greek yogurt are all things that I eat from as my meals throughout the day. I also have slim fast low carb high protein shakes on hand that I will drink slowly from throughout the day if I am running low on the protein side and don't feel like eating. Oh and I use myfitnesspal to help keep track of my protein for me. Its a great resource tool!

    My Hair....

I ask my doc this question on my two week followup. he questions why I was relying so heavily on high Protein shakes. I told him because I didn't want my hair to fall out. He said high protein or not 50% of patients may or may not lose their hair. It has to do with the shock of the surgery and to the body plus the rapid changes taking place in the body that causes hair loss. He told me to quit being a nurse and thinking i needed all this nutritional input now and to start being a patient lol. He said he was not worried for now about my nutrition but instead me learning how to eat properly again.
  12. This is exactly what my doc told me. The major part of the elastic stomach has been removed and although the remaining stomach can stretch a bit, it will never be able to stretch to what it was before.
  13. Up until I got pregnant and was placed on bed rest with pre-eclampsia I was a fit 130lb. Then came the pregnancy induced hypertension and bedrest for 4 months and on came the pounds. After delivery, I continued to eat for two and therefore did not lose the weight accordingly. So for the next 18 yrs, I yo-yo dieted and what-not. Then at 35, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's and any dieting attempts failed to lose pounds and instead they were creeping up as was my A1C levels. Last thing I wanted was Diabetes. I have been an OR nurse for several years now and have done many bariatric surgeries. The surgeon I work with is great and I would ask numerous questions during the surgeries. Finally, I told him it was time that I was the patient to rectify some health issues. So we met and I told him I was confidant that it was the VSG I wanted. He knew that I was informed of my choices and respected my decision. Well, that surgery was on May 1st and I am proud to say that I have no regrets, a great support team at home and work, and look forward to the continued weight loss in order to get to a newer healthier me. I also look forward to reading all of ur success stories as we all move toward a newer, healthier us!

    So Tired Of Hearing...

It's their ignorance (as in absence of information) that I think they are saying that from. You have done ur research and can feel confident in your decision. They lack the information, so of course, they are going to respond negatively.
  15. Here are the reasons I chose the VSG 1. NO rerouting of digestive plumbing 2. No dealing with dumping syndrome 3. The remaining part of the stomach is the less elastic part of the stomach so will not stretch back to previous size 4. Ghrelin hormone is removed with the stomach so much less hunger issues. 5. Significant higher risks with Roux-en-y procedure and post surgical complications. 6. Surgery takes half the time of a RNY 7. Band has proven to be less effective than any of the surgeries.
  16. As an OR nurse I will tell you that we give our Versed (the relaxing medicine) right before we roll back to the OR. This is the med that causes you to not remember going into the OR, moving to the bed etc... Some hospitals give it after you have already gone into the OR and moved to the OR bed. Forget everything you see on Grey's. That's a drama show and we never want drama in the OR. Dull, boring is great! You will move to the OR bed and monitors for heart, oxygen and blood pressure go on. The anesthesiologist will hit you with some Fentanyl most likely followed by the Propofol. There is no counting backwards. You can try and I once had a patient get to a slurred 96 before he was out. The propofol is a all at once overall calming sensation that immediately knocks you out. Afterwards the anesth. gives muscle paralytics to immobllize you and then puts the tube in. Afterwards, its all monitoring for him from there. It is scary giving up control of your body but have faith in your anesthesiologist. After all, he gets paid more money an hour than ur surgeon does for a reason. He knows what he is doing. U will do fine and good luck to you!

Seriously Im Outta Control! This Might Be Tmi

Now if only we could bottle this sensation and sell it, we could be rich! So on average how long after surgery did you all notice this carnal drive kick in??

    Sex!

My doc said said whenever I feel like it. Hubby was being all cautious and patient. However I wasn't and got tired of waiting on him so I took advantage of him in the middle of the night after two weeks. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

What Is Going On With Me?

slowly eat a small spoon of peanut butter. If you feel improvement shortly thereafter then you know it was your blood sugar. If not, then followup with a phone call to your Dr. office.
