Gagging/pressure Sensation - 3 Days Post-Op
I was told no alcohol for 6 months. I am 6 days post op and that feeling you have might be the need to burp.....I have been burping like mad (my family won't take me out and my 10yr old nephew would be proud). I usually let off big ones when I go from sitting to standing or right after eating/drinking.

Day 2 Preop... Coffee!
I was good with decaf and even put it in my vanilla shakes to cut the taste a bit.

I'm Not Ashamed.
I am the same as you, not embarrassed but not ready for everyone to know. I need to figure out my new life first before bringing people into it.......and needing to explain it to them.

Eating If You Don't Feel Hungry?
I had a conversation with my drs about this, this week......as I am only 5 days post op and getting about 200 calories in......don't eat if you are not hungry.

Length Of Hospital Stay?
I was on the operating table at 8am and home by noon. I know some stay overnight. I was good with being home as I did not have pain or huge discomfort.

5 Days Post Op - When Does The Burping Stop -
Oh my, I sound like I should be hanging with the frat boys on a Friday night. Family doesn't want to go anywhere with me Especially after eating/drinking or when I stand up. It's all funny when it is in the confines of my house, but I do have to leave the house.

Week 1 Help!
I was on Clear liquids for the day of surgery and the day after and then moved to full liquids for the next 2 weeks. Anything that pours off a spoon (no chunks) - yogurt, pudding, soup, smoothies, Jello, Protein drinks. Your dr's office should be giving you some guidance and hopefully access to a nutritionist. Good luck.

Senior Bandsters: Anything You Would Have Done Differently Prior To Your Surgery Date ?
I had my surgery the same day as you. Sorry that you are not feeling so well. Just take care of yourself. I had powdered stool softener that I added to my yogurt and all was good in the world yesterday. I am burping like mad. Make sure that you are up and moving around. Take care.

2 Weeks To Go And Wanting To Eat Everything! Help!
I wasn't given a choice, Optifast was what the surgeon told me I had to do. Lots of ice, well blended and drank thru a straw and they really weren't that bad. I added some instant coffee to the vanilla one for taste and by week 2, drinking them and 1 serving of fruits and 1 serving of veggies and I was good. Doesn't mean I wouldn't have eaten a steak if it was in front of me......but I was good.

Senior Bandsters: Anything You Would Have Done Differently Prior To Your Surgery Date ?
Follow your dr's instructions, walk, walk, walk after surgery, sip, sip, sip......I stayed ahead of my pain for the first 48 and took the painkillers on schedule. When I wasn't having any pain whatsoever, I just stopped. Might need stool softener (mixed that in with yoguart), rest and nap when you need to. I am sure your surgeon has prepared you, just follow their instructions.

Senior Bandsters: Anything You Would Have Done Differently Prior To Your Surgery Date ?
I was only banded 4 days ago and am certainly not a pro. I have had the easiest recovery ever, not one ounce of pain, no gas pain (lots of burping and farting), slept like a baby the first night. I would have to say I was overprepared and that was not necessarily a good thing. I was in denial about Protein shakes and figured like my pre op, I will just have to deal with it when it happens. I purchased ensure liquid Protein drinks (clear not creamy), tried 1 and threw the other 7 away. I bought carnation instant Breakfast (on my nutritionists list), have had 1 and am pretty sure will throw the other 3 away, I bought a 6 pack of high protein pudding from GNC that I can't stand, thank goodness you can return GNC products. I have 2 large tubs of

I Had My Surgery Today And I Feel Blessed Beyond Measure!!!
I couldn't even think of eating, I would lick a hamburger if it was in front of me, maybe chew it and spit it out. I have to really follow the post op plan, to prove that I can do it and because after my post op, I go home (I am at my mom's) which is 6hrs away from my clinic, and I can't imagine having problems being 6hrs away. Your body is in starvation mode and is holding onto everything, it is not burning fat right now and I doubt we are losing much. Once we start eating more, better, weight loss will come.

I Had My Surgery Today And I Feel Blessed Beyond Measure!!!
I am in the exact same boat as you. Haven't stepped on a scale yet, will wait til my post op appt. I am 4 days post and zero pain, no gas, I could have gone back to work yesterday. I am maybe putting in 300 calories/day and maybe 15g Protein. I was concerned called my patient care coordinator and she told me not to worry, if I am not hungry, don't eat, gave me some ideas to up my protein without powder or the pre fab protein booster foods/drinks. I have even gone back to trying 1 Optifast /day, just to get some nutritional value - who would have thought after 2 weeks on only opti, i would be sooo happy to be mixing that up again today. I am trying to sip all day, but by 7pm and FULL and will not make myself sick by being overful!!! Clinic is okay with that. Good luck to you.

2 Weeks To Go And Wanting To Eat Everything! Help!
It does get easier, I promise. I was on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior and by the 2nd week, I was fine, no cravings. I did cheat once and that was just for lack of planning on my part. I am having a harder time post op with the protein that I am back to drinking some of my leftover shakes and call me crazy, even ordered a box of them from my surgeon to have on hand for emergencies and travel once I am on food again. I am 4 days post op and have struggled with all the protein enhanced foods, I can't stomach them, so today, I had 1/2 an optifree shake and I smiled the whole time, I was soooo happy. Forget about canadian thanksgiving, focus on celebrating US thanksgiving!!!

I Had My Surgery Today And I Feel Blessed Beyond Measure!!!
Stacytt, I have the same problem with eating, I was banded on Monday. Spoke to my surgeons office today as I am having issues with the protein, drinks, powder, anything I am trying to eat that is a 'protein' suppliment. She told me not to worry, I can go back to my Optifast if I want, to not eat if I am full, make sure I drink and don't freak out. Try to eat things that have natural protein, add cottage cheese (blenderized) to Soups, try a bit of Protein Powder in Water and I should be fine.

Help Pls - 3 Days Post Op, I Need Help With Protein
okay spoke to the surgeons office and I am good if I want to throw in optifast. She also suggested egg white protein? no smell or taste and to supplement soups with cottage cheese (in a blender). I have put some powder in my drink and it is okay and not to worry if I am not hungry, don't force it. So I do feel better and will experiment with smoothies today.

Here I Go!
Good luck and here's to a speed recovery. Take care of yourself.

Help Pls - 3 Days Post Op, I Need Help With Protein
Thanks everyone, I have some optifast left and may try that until I can get hold of the surgeons office. I have the greek yoguart which is good and gatoraid recovery which has protein. I will try to get creative with my unjury and give my surgeons office a call. I just am having a really hard time with the smell and taste of the high protein drinks. 10 more days on liquid........I can do it.

Why Do I Feel So Nervous And Excited At The Same Time?!
100% normal
-
Help Pls - 3 Days Post Op, I Need Help With Protein
I'm in Canada, will look, but might be easier for me to go to my optifast in small portions until I can throw that chicken in the blender. I am going broke trying all these and GNC is going to be sick of me returning everything.

How Long Did It Take To Get Back To No Pain??
Everyone heals differently, just take care of yourself, follow your dr's instructions and don't be afraid to take your pain meds and keep ahead of the pain. Stay hydrated, move around and eat small 3oz portions every 3-4 hrs. I was banded on the 17th and am lucky that I didn't have pain (tightness and a bit of ache when I burb), didn't have gas (inside, outside burping and farting is a whole different story) and am moving pretty well. We are all different. Take care of yourself and congrats on your surgery.
