  1. A lot of people pay for the sleeve out of their own pocket, so insurance isn't always a consideration. I'm sure if you have the cash, you can find a doctor that will do just about anything for you, regardless of the circumstances.

    When Do People Notice?

Anytime you wear clothes that are too big, it makes you look heavier than you are. I can see it taking longer for people to notice if that is the case here. Now that I've refreshed my wardrobe to an appropriate size, I've had a number of conversations start with "Holy S@#!!t, how much weight have you lost?". This is after 88 pounds.

    Newbie Here!

The pre-op diet gets really easy once you've had the surgery.

    New To This, Help

I don't think that it's normal, but not unprecedented, either. Have you taken body measurements- I would be interested to see if those have changed at all. Going strictly by pounds isn't necessarily the best judge of anything in such a short time period. The pain sounds like typical healing post major surgery. I would follow up with your doctor- their opinion is the one that counts this early.

    Eating Quantities

I've noticed the same thing over the past few months. I blame the poor economy.

How Can I Fight Denial Bc Too Low Bmi?

There isn't a whole lot you can personally do in this situation. If your coverage states those are the rules, then that is the game you have to play. Hopefully your doctor can state your case well enough to push ahead.

    Surgery Sfter Sleeve

My doctor had mentioned revision surgery to RNY after the sleeve if I am having trouble getting down to goal as a possibility. I don't think that is an expectation or something he does a lot, but is an option. I am having knee surgery on the 19th. I tore my meniscus due to increased activity and exercise now that I'm not carrying a piano everywhere I go. I consider that to also be sleeve related.
  8. Small bites and chew, chew, chew. If you're easting too fast, you are probably taking too big of bites as well. This was one of the big things I had to learn.
  9. 85 down, 85 to go. Time for another set of clothes. That is all.

    Anyone Heard About Gummyowls?

Well, they've got to be better than the real thing. I wouldn't fault a smoker for using those nicotene tubes when trying to quit so this probably isn't much different. It's intersesting to see the different little things that each of us get hung up on.
  11. This is the single greatest thread in the history of the Internet.

    Anyone Heard About Gummyowls?

Personally, I gave up on candy substitutes all together. Not having any for the last four months has totally killed my desire to eat candy or chocolate. I figure using substitutes as a crutch would only keep that addiction going so it worked better for me to tough it out and break the habit cold turkey.

    The 11 Make 2 Months

You're losing over five pounds a week at your current rate. Most people would be doing cartwheels. You should be really proud of what you've accomplished in such a short period of time.
  14. Heck, I'm just looking forward to my first Thanksgiving without having to wear my "eating pants".
  15. People are entitled to their opinion, regardless of how wrong it may be, unfortunately. To move this thread positively, when I was in the ICU, one of the nurses came by in the middle of the night and told me how proud he was of me that i had gotten surgery, even though he had just met me. He has the sleeve himself years before and was really positive that i have made the right choice. I would encourage all of you to share your story if you can- it makes a bigger difference than you think. If out of 20 haters you help one person, it's worth it in the long run.
  16. I'd agree with massindex on this. Since you're not trying to build huge muscular legs, the rest period isn't as critical when thinking cardio vs. muscle building. The cardio is all about working the heart and burning calories. You could probably even double up and do both on some days if you don't want to spend 7 days a week in the gym.

    How Often Do You Stall?

OK, so I'll break this down a bit more since you missed the humorous intent of the statement. If you stall for two or three weeks, then weighing yourself once a week or every couple of days will only demonstrate to you that you are in a period of plateau. If stalls and plateaus make you crazy, then all you are doing is torturing yourself. If you move to a schedule of only weighing yourself monthly, then, more than likely, you'll still have stalls, but you'll never know they happened, so there is nothing to ever get upset about. I feel that setting arbitrary dates that you want to reach arbitrary weight goals is setting yourself up for failure, as it has been demonstrated in thousands of posts on this forum that we have no control over how fast/slow/what amount of weight we lose in any given time period. So rather than becoming fixated on being at a certain number of pounds on a certain date, we should be more focused on reaching a goal weight when we reach it. If the other way works for you, go for it. My hope is that everyone here is successful. I just like to offer an alternative view that some may find helpful.

    How Often Do You Stall?

Research is showing that stalls happen because you are weighing yourself far too often. Does it really matter if you get to onederland by your birthday or a few days later? I'd argue the destination more imprtant than the journey.

Waiting For Approval - Blue Shield Of Ca

Call them up and ask what the status is. If they don't have it, call them tomorrow. Ask them how long it will take and repeat daily until you get an answer.

    Fell Off The Wagon!

sugar free popsicles actually taste a little better, IMO. That's any easy fix to this easy problem. I have a fat girl picture of me on the fridge. It's a nice reminder of how far I've come when the idiot cycles start (been there, done that).

    Left Shoulder Pain

Don't eat so fast or so much. A lot of people get shoulder pain as one of their new "I'm already full so stop shovelling it in" signals that most of us never had before surgery.

Does The Hunger Go Away After Surgery....?

It takes a while to go away. You won't be hungry immediately after surgery, but there is still a lot of mental hunger you will fight through for a while- months in many cases. The good part is that, regardless of how hungry you are, as long as you follow the rules you won't be able to over eat and will be in a much better position. Good luck.
  23. There are lots of people here that have had less than supportive spouses, families, friends, etc. With all your previous complications, I can see why your husband is very reluctant. My gut feeling says that maybe instead of hiding the fact you are working on setting up a sleeve date, you may be better served by including him in the process so he can talk to the surgeon and go to the meetings to ask his questions and get comfortable with the idea. Shoes on the other foot, I would dig my heels in having this sprung on me purely on principle.

    Insurance And Postponing

If you are postponing for a little over a week, then you won't have to resubmit anything. Surgeries get postponed all the time. If you put it off more a month or more, then you have to go through the process again. Unless something drastic changes in your paperwork, there is zero chance they will deny you the second time.
  25. Actually, you may want to keep one set for the before and after picture once you succeed in hitting your goal. And you will succeed. Burn the rest of them.
