When you cough, sneeze, roll over etc. it supports the belly and those muscles you use to do those things. Mostly due to the placement of the port. The other small puncture areas have minimal pain in a few days. that's all : ) Also a heating pad is a welcome friend if you have post op pain in your shoulder due to the C02 they use in the procedure. Good luck Hope it remains sunny for a few more days.

Good luck to Steve from Sunny California-
Good luck with your surgery. I had mine on Aug 27th - still on full liquids but after 48 hrs of clear Liquid Protein I feel I am in heaven. Agree with above pillow is essential. Keep in touch.

Don't over pack.... i was a nurse on a barriatric floor. If you are only staying overnight, just bring essentials.....toiletries, fav pillow for ride home, and clothes that are comfy and easy to get in and out of. Most people "sleep it off" the night after surgery, then in am you have a "meal" if it stays down .....poof....discharge. That is, if you have only a band. Make sure things are cool at home.....so when you get home you can just veg for a day or so...... I remember one nice person brought 3 pieces of luggage....was discharged before she even opened them. that is just my opinion of what to bring.

There is always one of the two that makes you feel more confident and relaxed. Go with that one. As a nurse just let yourself relax and ask yourself which one makes you feel like you are in the best hands. then you will get your answer.

thanks everybody. I feel better tonight knowing i am in the "ballpark" It is just weird not feeling hungry and yet so few calories. I am sure that will change as the swelling goes down. thanks again

I am post op x6 days. Still on the full liquid diet. I cannot seem to get very many calories in or am I just silly. I am averaging 40 to 60 on the Protein. but with a calorie counter my numbers are like 800 for the day. I am supposed to have low cal juices and such, thin full liquids. Is this unusual?? Just asking. thanks

Good luck to you Kristinsmommy-- I wish you the best of luck.
This is my first post really since banding on the 27th. I have learned a few things- the gas pains are wicked but walking is the key. Also a heating pad. Next I think an abdominal binder will help as the port site is the only incision that still hurts.
The positive- I am down at least 10 lb....but the miracle for me is the "lack of hunger". The full liquid diet is kinda boring. But I AM glad to have broken a continuous hunger cycle.
Good luck to you all waiting to be banded. BTW on or about the 3 rd day the bowels waken up-be prepared. several people had to make mad dashes. But you do feel better after.
Talk again soon- karen

If you are worried about an infection. Don't wait till monday. Call your surgeon, go to urgent care and have them look at it. Be smart. Take care.

I too am an RN on busy tele unit. With all of the responses looks we might have found a new group to relate too. I am having surgery on Aug 27th. Will be taking about 2 weeks off. I think I can find other nurses to "lift" for me. God knows I have done enough lifting for our "expecting" co-workers. Any body else having surgery soon? BTW i am in california. Anybody on west coast?? NURSES do rock!

In california I go to smartscrubs. They have the coolest designs. Most tops and bottoms go from xxs to xxxl. They are mostly online and catalog. See the web site and order a caalog. Plus, they are made to really wear a long time. Hundreds of patterns , especially for the holidays. I love them.
