    Blood Test And Ultrasound

you only have to wait 4 weeks after treatment if you get another blood test. They can do a breathe test or stool test after treatment to check if it was successful as soon as antibiotics are finished.

    From Approval To Surgery

It depends on the insurance....my insurance approved me before I even met with my surgeon....other people have to get everything don with tests and the surgeon before they are approved. So lots of factors to consider.
  3. I don't have a surgery date yet, I have my second consult with my surgeon next week, and my first NUT appt the same day, I have lost 6 pounds so far. I am really emotional. I don't mean a little teary and upset. I mean hard core crying at everything (worse than pregnancy), depressed, and I just want to go to bed and sleep until this all gets worked out and I am going to surgery, or better yet wake up after surgery in recovery. I don't know what to do, I just feel hopeless and alone, and I don't know..... Has anyone else gone through depression and hopelessness pre-op? What did you do?

    Urea Breath Test

it is another test for H. Pylori. Most places do a blood test but the urea breath test is another option. You can look it up, it is quick and painless.

Gearing Up For My Pre Op Diet

I am doing great with my pre-op diet. My surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet but she requires a loss of 5%-10% of your body weight. So I decided to keep my calories between 1,200 and 1,500, cut out caffeine, cut out all soda, cut out all candy and sweets, and strive to get in 60-80oz of Water a day, and 80 - 100g of Protein a day. It sounds difficult but if you stick to fresh whole foods it is not a problem. Here is a sample day for me (I lost 4.5 pounds this week) Breakfast: a Protein shake, or 2 scrambled eggs with a little salsa and a peice of low cal whole grain toast with 1 tblspn of Peanut Butter Snack: large glass of decaf green tea, and low cal string cheese Lunch: 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese, and small salad with green lettuce, cucumber, chopped broccoli, red bell pepper, and light dressing Snack: small apple with or without PB for dipping Dinner: 4oz grilled fish (ahi tuna or salmon), steamed or sauteed green veggies Also make sure you are moving, even if you can't get to the gym, go for a long walk after dinner, or if you have time, go before Breakfast. If you have trouble drinking water (like I do) set a timer on your phone to go off every hour or 2 that says "DRINK 8oz. OF WATER NOW!!!!" and do that every time your alarm goes off. Good luck!

    Smoking

My doctor says for her smoking patients they have to be smoke free for at least 6 weeks and she tests urine at the pr-op appt for nicotine. She says there is a higher risk of bleeding, healing is slowed, higher risk of leak, and higher risk of death. That to me is scary I would let them know when you quit and if it pushes your surgery back a little but means you will heal faster and be at less risk then isn't it worth it? Good luck, and congrats on quitting!
  7. In the first 6-8 weeks post-op how often do you eat? I know a lot of people say they aren't hungry at all so they have to make themselves eat. Do you set a timer and just eat at meal times....or do you nibble a little here and there all day to get in your Protein and some calories?
  8. Ok I am just curious what a typical day looked like as far as food and exercise.... Before looking into the sleeve______ After your first doctor visit______ Once you had a surgery date______ During Pre-op diet______ During Post op recovery_____ 8 weeks+ past surgery_______ Just out of curiosity

    Frozen Banana "ice Cream"

They also sell it on Amazon
  11. I don't have to have pulmonology, chest x-ray, sleep study, or EKG. I just have to have blood work H. Pylori test endoscopy and gall bladder ultrasound Every insurance company is different, and then on top of that every surgeon is different...so mix up all the combos of the 2 it makes things different for every person.

    So It Begins! :-)

My seminar is the 31st of July but my pre-op consult is August 16th as well. I still have to get my endoscopy, and my gall bladder ultrasound. Hope all goes well for you!

    Pre Op Diet

When your body detoxes your tongue gets white, also can be a sign of dehydration. So make sure you are getting enough water, and invest in a tongue scraper to help elliminate the toxins coming out of your tongue.

Is It Really Only 8 Oz?

I only use 8oz liquid with mine but I add 4-8 pieces of ice and when blended it froths it up to over 16oz.
  15. I have already had my first surgery consult. I still have to go back for another consult, as well as meet with the dietitian, and have my psych eval. My surgeon didn't say anything about a pre-op diet but she did mention that she likes her patients to lose about 5% of their body weight before surgery to make sure they are committed and serious. So that means I need to lose about 10-12 pounds. What should I do to lose it. It seems so strange I have lost weight in the past but for some reason I am blanking on what to do. I know eat right and exercise, but my next surgeon consult is August 23rd. I want to prove I am serious but all of this is enough to make my head swim and start stress eating. I know most/all of you will understand that is why I love it here.

    Youtube

I have watched all the surgeries I could find on Youtube...when I was considering the band I watched all those videos, and now I have seen all the sleeve surgeries too. I am also going to ask my surgeon if I can have a video of my surgery...LOL some people think I am crazy.

    Any September People

I am hoping for a Sept. surgery date.
  18. It seems as though a lot of the recovery is similar to the band, and most surgeons tell people to try and take 2 weeks off of work. Most people with the sleeve start feeling "normal" at about 3-4 weeks out, though it does depend on the person, the type of job they have, and the situation. I have been talking to my step mom about this (she had the sleeve last year) and she is behind me 100%, she is giving me a lot of support which is great. I am so happy that I actually know someone in real life with good results and experience that I can talk to. Of course these boards are great too!
  19. I was part of LAP Band Talk as well and I have switched to going with the sleeve. I talked to my surgeon and she said she thinks I would have more success and be happier with the sleeve.
  20. Ok so my first consult with my surgeon is tomorrow. I was checking out her website and printing out the paper work to fill out for my appointment, and I found that she doesn't require a preop diet. Just Clear liquids the day before surgery as well as bowel prep. So my question is what would you do if your surgeon didn't require preop diet? Would you do one anyway, or just eat sensibly until surgery?

    CA Sleevesters

I am on the Central Coast between Santa Barbara and Santa Maria...anyone else?
  22. Ok so I was looking into having LAP band done. I went to my doctor, got insurance approval and had my first consult with surgeon. She said I have no red flags for my health so any option has the potential to work for me. She did say that since I have binge eating disorder that she might lean more toward the sleeve for me since you can technically eat "around" the band and you can't do that with the sleeve. SO my question is what made you choose the sleeve? Did you consider the band? and why didn't you do that? How happy are you with the sleeve? What problems, issues, etc have you had with the sleeve? Do you regret getting the sleeve even a tiny bit?
  23. Thanks muelle that is very motivating especially since you got to your goal so quickly. I think I will just be sensible about it. Maybe a Protein shake or 2 each day and healthy meats, fruits and veggies.
  24. I just saw my doctor Tuesday to submit yo insurance and I got email confirmation yesterday that I have been approved! My first consult with the surgeon is July 9th, my seminar is July 31st. This ball is rolling fast.
  25. I had my dr. appt. today. I love my doctor so much she is so sweet. I told her I wanted to submit a referral to insurance for the LAP Band. She asked me some basic questions, smiled gave me the name of the surgeon she was referring me too, then immediately put in the referral. I went to the insurance desk and activated it. The girl at the insurance desk said I should know in less than a week if I have approval or not! YEA!
