  1. I have to go in for a consultation next month. They gave me paperwork to fill out. My husband, who has apnea and snores like a bandsaw, said there is no way I could have it. His snoring keeps me up, and I do wake up in the middle of the night if I eat to closely to bedtime, have more than 1 glass of wine or have one of those lovely hot flashes. I am hoping that if they want to further investigate, they will send me home with one of those machines to hook up and let me do it at home. I have the hardest time sleeping away from home.

    My Chest Shrunk

Before my weight gain, I was a 32B. I thought having big boobs would be nice. I've had these big boobs for 15 years (38DD), and can't wait for them to go away. If I need surgery after all of this so be it. I just hope that the doc can keep em small. lol
  3. Great question... I was open to the best option for me. With the bypass, you absolutely cannot take certain meds that I sometimes need to take. I have had multiple surgeries on my legs from sports and now from injuries sustained due to my weight. I have also had some inflammation issues with autoimmune conditions. Should I need to take prednisone or anti-inflammatories, I can under strict supervision. If I had the bypass, from what I was told I can't take those period. When I had my consult, we discussed all of my options and came to the conclusion that this is my best option. The sleeve is new. From what I was told, it is becoming more popular in Europe than bypass. True, the long term studies have not concluded, maybe that is why.
  4. Well, here's one for ya... I am doing my 3 month supervised diet with my surgeon. I go to the classes, follow the diet to a "T" and exercise. I am just finishing my 1st of 3 months. I just got on the scale and noticed that I have gained 2 lbs. I have my class and weigh in tomorrow night. I have noticed that I do eat more carbs- fruits, vege's and a little quinoa than I have in the past- but this is what I have been told to do in the diet. In myfitnesspal, I am under my calorie intake by 300-500 cals per day due to exercise. I just don't get it... I would have thought I would loose. 2 lbs isn't that much and is probably water, but I am bummed. I am almost thinking of going to 2 shakes and 1 meal a day to loose some weight.
  5. I am in the same boat. Fortunately, I am with a small employee funded insurance, and have been for almost 10 years. They have said that they will take a look at the sleeve if it is better for me... we shall see. They have covered all of the problems that I have had due to my weight problem including medicines and several surgeries. I am hoping that those problems will convince them that the sleeve is for me. My surgeon is writing a letter stating that it is the best option for me. Fingers and toes crossed!

    Any Sleevers With Pcos?

I take spirolactone for hair growth. It has helped a great deal. I still get a few hairs, but it has greatly decreased, and is lighter in color. It also helps with a skin condition I have called sebaceous hyperplasia. I am pre-surgery, but I hope I can continue this particular med, because of what it does over all.

    Camelback Bottles?

They also have cleaning tablets. We use these for the bags. My son is a mountain biker and sometimes puts vitamin water in it, and then forgets about it for a few days- gross, but the tablets totally clean it out. You can also replace the sipper tips and the bottles are dishwasher safe. I am pre-op, and love love love my bottle. I do hope I can use it post op!

    Nsaids

Thank you all for this info. I have been a little worried about this too. I have taken both Celebrex and steroids off and on for the last few years. I am hoping that once I loose the weight they will no longer be necessary. If your knee hurts, there is an injection called Synvisc that seems to help a great deal. You all may want to check into that. I believe there are several types- long lasting, etc. My father in law has used it for RA with excellent results in his knees. I am not sure if it works on other areas, but you could check with your doc. I do know it's expensive and has to be done in the office. All of the people that have had it, have loved it. Also, check to see how you can change your diet (not like it hasn't been changed enough). Sometimes eating gluten free helps.

    Miss My Soda

I used to drink a 12 pack of Diet Coke per day. I quit and switched to ice tea. I have been soda free for over 4 years, with the exception of 1 time. It gave me one of the worst migraines I have ever had (and I have a lot of them). I think it was the aspartame. Great if you can tolerate it, but the aspartame is poison for me. I also think it is the carbonation that is the issue for sleevers?

    The Permanence Of It

I too have gone back and forth over the years. This spring, I finally decided it was time and it was the sleeve. I want the permanence of it. I have seen people gain weight back from both bypass and band. I think this is my best chance for success. Hopefully, this fall! When it is time, you will know it.

Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

Thank you for the suggestion- There is also Vegasport, which is gluten free too. Kinda gritty, but the taste is great! I will try Tara's!
  12. I like the taste, but they give me heartburn, and I have never had heartburn... I agree, most taste like butt. I found a vegan one that tastes pretty good, smells awful and is gritty.. I use it in a shaker bottle. Vegasport. I am not vegan, but it seems to be okay. Still looking!
  13. So, I have been trying different protein shakes recently. I have never really had heartburn, until I tried Premier Protein. I think it is what is causing it, because that is the only think I have changed. Anyone else experience this?

    Thyroid Issues

I was diagnosed with Hashi's 14 years ago. I also have Celiac Disease, which I have been told that they are closely related autoimmune diseases. I take Armour thyroid. I have tried all of the others, and have found that this works best for me. I have had my meds changed so many times that I can't remember. I am pre-op, and with my past diet history, I can loose the weight to a certain point, but I can't maintain it. I also know that if I am not on the right meds or the right dose, it is virtually impossible for me to loose weight. My suggestion would be to stop eating all gluten (I had to, but this is what I have also been told when you have hashi's), if possible work with your doc to find your sweet spot on blood tests. If something is not working, change it. There is a large range of "normal" and I need to be at the low range of that, others may be different. I am wondering if/how all of this will change after surgery!

    Antidepressants After Surgery

I am wondering about this too. I take wellbutrin and prozac in low doses for migraine headaches. I have tried to go off, but my headaches return 10 fold. I may try switching to just prozac because it comes in a liquid. I used to take anti seizure drugs, but they didn't quite agree with me. The last thing I want to do during this is battle one of those headaches.

Will I Ever Enjoy Eating Again?

Well, I am pre-surgery, and food enjoyment has controlled my life. I cannot wait to say good bye to enjoyment and hello to a new me. I want to think about other things - instead of WHEN do I GET to eat again and what will I have... to I actually need something. I am tired of this consuming my life, I have more to do than think and crave stupid food. It's like saying good bye to a bad relationship.
  17. AWESOME! I have only told a "select few." The only family member that knows outside of my husband and son, is my Dad. The only reason I have told my Dad is because he is also considering wls. Outside of that, my 2 besties, who are super supportive and have been sworn to secrecy. I don't believe anyone could bully me at this point, well not enough for me to change my mind. Maybe I am at the point of not tolerating it anymore.

    H Pylori

Now I am freaking too. I had it years ago. It formed a nasty ulcer- I swear I thought I had broken ribs. It did clear up pretty easy. I wonder if it can come back? Trust me, if you do have it- take care of it.
  19. This is exactly what I am concerned about. Thank you for this post. I expect to have surgery around the beginning of September. I am going through a 3 month supervised diet right now that my surgeon requires. I do have a 2 week pre-op that will be partially liquid with one meal, kinda reminds me of that old slimfast commercial! I know how much of a B*&^tch I can be when I am hungry. I have started substituting 1 meal a day with a Protein shake. My hope is that when I get there, it won't be as much of a shock. Maybe this is just hopeful thinking, who knows? One concern is that I will be sick of the shakes when I really need to drink them! Hang in there, I have a strong feeling this will all pass and be worth it! Best wishes-
  20. I just wanted to share a new Protein shake I found. I have celiac disease, so I needed to find one that was gluten free. I really don't like the chemical taste of most of the shakes, and sometimes they are way too sweet for me. The problem with the more natural and better tasting shakes was that they were either low in protein or high in carbs. I am pre-surgery, but I am starting to introduce the foods (or liquids) that I will be eating so that it will be less of a shock when I have my sleeve. When I was in Whole Foods yesterday, I thought I would swing by the protein powders to see if there was anything new. To my surprise, I found Vega Sport! Tastes pretty good- better than most I have tried, it's organic, etc. The only downside is that they don't have it in ready to go cans. I put it in a shaker bottle with some Water. For anyone looking for a more natural product, especially gluten or dairy free- you may want to try this! The also have some other products that I am looking at. Kinda pricey, compared to Pure Protein, but in line with the bariatric products.

    Any Crossfitters In Here?

I would like to know too! I can't wait to start CrossFit. My ortho won't let me until I get some of my weight off because of prior surgeries.

Cost Of Pre & Post Surgery Products

I have celiac disease (gluten). A lot of the bariatric products have gluten in them. So, there are alternatives. They may not be less expensive, but they do exist.
  24. I am pre-op, but I have had my gall bladder taken out a few years ago. It does sound like that could be what may be going on. I didn't have gall stones, I had something they call sludge. It made me really nauseous and puky. It was also very painful. I couldn't move, every time I lifted my head I puked. I would ask your doc.

    Coconut Sugar

Both my son and I have celiac and can't have gluten, we use a lot of coconut flour- it's sweeter. I haven't used the sugar, but for baking the flour is yummy! I will look for it, I am not sure of the carbs though
