    No Weight Loss?

are you sure that it's not the yogurt keeping you from losing weight? I dieted most of my life and know that my sensitive system simply refuses to release any weight as long as I consume dairy products, nuts, beans, cheese, peas, or even citrus fruits. I, like you, also tried the Greek yogurt but didn't lose any weight on the days that I did. Do you have sensitive skin? I ask because I'm wondering if your system is as sensitive as mine.
  2. I am 3 weeks post op and, as of today, I would not do it again. I have only lost 5 lbs. Although a lot of people on this board claim that the surgery diminishes hunger, my hunger isn't the least bit diminished. I wasn't able to eat much for the first couple of weeks but now that I am done with my pain medication, I am famished most of the time. The only thing that the surgery has done for me is decreased the amount of food that I can eat but, considering that I have only lost 5 lbs, I don't consider the surgery to have yet been worth the trouble. I'm just glad that the surgery was free for me because I would probably be a lot more upset about having it if I had spent a great deal of money on something that has only led to a 5 lb weight loss. I could have done that without surgery!
  3. Do you happen to drink caffeine first thing in the morning? or do you smoke? I know that caffeine causes anxious feelings in my stomach. Nicotine can also cause anxious feelings since it constricts arteries.

    No Weight Loss?

I find myself swallowing a lot of air when I drink liquids too. It's as if my esophagus has also been changed. I have begun mixing Fiber in with broth because I get tired of the sweet Protein drinks too. I have also been pureeing various canned Soups. They fill me up for awhile and don't make me feel too uncomfortable. I have also been following some of the advice on this board by trying yogurt, pureed Beans, cheese, etc. but that would seem to explain why maybe I haven't lost weight. I just don't understand how so many people on this board eat fattening cheese, yogurt, Peanut Butter, etc. and still lose weight. Anyone who knows about yo-you dieting knows that high calorie dairy products like cheese are absolutely not conducive to losing weight. I tried it anyways though thinking that I would lose weight since my diet is still low calorie even with dairy foods but its not working for me. I just have to do what I know to be right which is just eating protein like chicken, beef, fish, and veggies.

    No Weight Loss?

at least we know that we aren't alone in our struggle...how is your hunger? the surgery hasn't diminished my hunger either. I wasn't hungry for the first couple of weeks but I tend to think it had to do with the pain medication and just not being able to eat. I'm out of pain medicine now and am hungry all the time! I just bought some hunger suppressants to help because the surgery certainly hasn't! The only thing that the surgery has really done for me is limited the amount that I eat but that hasn't really helped me in any way yet either.

    No Weight Loss?

I'm frustrated too. I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 5 lbs. I would have thought twice about the surgery if I had known that the weight loss would be so very slow. I could have lost more than 5 lbs without surgery!
  7. I'm 3 weeks out and have only lost 5 lbs since surgery so you're actually doing better than I am.

    Is Feeling Ravenous Normal?

me too and I'm 3 weeks out! In fact, I just bought some appetite suppressants, that I used before the surgery, to help me deal with the hunger. The surgery didn't eliminate or even decrease my hunger like so many claimed that it would...maybe for the first couple of weeks but not any more.
  9. I had palpitations for years before I learned that they were caused by a magnesium deficiency. As long as I take a multivitamin plus a magnesium supplement everyday then I no longer experience palpitations. Caffeine can also cause palpitations.
  10. so your theory supports my theory that the girl had her eye on the guy first...
  11. Both men and women will nearly always denigrate a person if that person make them feel inferior or threatened for any reason. They feel the need to insult or belittle you in order to make themselves feel better about themselves. Besides that though, females are territorial. If you encroach on what a particular female deems to be her territory then she will often find any reason to attack you and will encourage others to do the same in an effort to convince you that you don't belong in her territory. Maybe she had her eye on the guy that flirted with you first.
  12. I'm still considering whether to have the sleeve or not. My insulin resistance causes problems for me when I eat low carb diets because then I tend to get low blood sugar and very weak. Although the sleeve would probably heal the insulin resistance eventually, I'm wondering if the liquid and puree and otherwise low carb sleeve diet will cause me to be too weak initially?
  13. Thank you! Good luck to you, Ailly! Please let me know how everything goes with your surgery when you get a chance.
  14. I'm not sure if I have the same problem since I don't have a meter but I'm having a difficult time with the diet. I'm insulin resistant and had to stop my metformin in preparation for the surgery but I'm struggling with extremely low energy at the moment. The lack of metformin combined with a low carb, low calorie pre-op diet is painful for me. My bones actually hurt from the lack of energy. This has a lot to do with why I gained so much weight to begin with. I have extremely low energy and, therefore, difficulty functioning when I eat low carb and/or low calorie diets which in turns causes me to want to carb up for energy which in turn causes me to gain weight. It is a vicious cycle. I'm really hoping that the surgery helps me to overcome it although I am really struggling with the pre-op diet at the moment.
  15. Hi all! I'm scheduled for the 24th too! I am really struggling with the lack of calories and the fact that I can't take my metformin today. I feel really low on sugar. I agree with you, circa, that I dread the hospital stay. I don't like sleeping in public places. I had a surgery before and remember being super groggy for a long time after the surgery but the pain medicine pump that they gave me helped a lot. Everytime I woke up then I would just click the pump and fall right back to sleep again. I'm planning to do the same thing on Wednesday. Do you know what time your surgery is yet? I'm still waiting to find out what time mine will be.

    I Can't Stop Eating.

You're not alone, nusemaia! I have been snacking here and there myself. My surgery is scheduled for the 24th but I'm absolutely famished! My blood sugar is low too since I can't take my metformin so I crawled to the store for some popsicles and v8. I don't think that I'm supposed to have v8 but I really don't care. I need some energy!

    I Am Incredibly Lazy!

I bought a treadmill and plopped it right down in front of my television. I record one of my favorite shows but then only allow myself to actually watch the show if I walk on the treadmill.
  18. Amen! awesome! You're a blessing to us all, Monique! Thank you for your prayer.
  19. Do the MTFs weigh you during the psych eval and nut appts?
  20. I came across this article that suggests that Jesse Jackson Jr's gastrointestinal and depression problems may have been caused by a duodenal switch. The description of a duodenal switch makes it seems as though it is the same thing as a sleeve that also bypasses a lot of the intestines which results in malabsorption. The articles go on to say that Jr may have developed bipolar disorder as a result of malnutrition. http://chicagotonigh...witch-explained http://illinoisrevie...r-disorder.html If true then this is yet another reason why getting just a sleeve is better than getting the duodenal switch or bypass. The idea of bypassing the intestines is a scary thought to me. It just seems too drastic to not only remove 90% of the stomach but then to also bypass a lot of the intestines. I wonder if cases like this will eventually result in people with depression, etc. being disqualified from any kind of bypass operation.
  21. Have you ever just eaten something that hits the spot? You just get that completely satisfied, satiated, and nourished feeling. Is that warm and yummy feeling still possible after the sleeve?
  22. The sleeve hasn't been around long but I look forward to reading comparative studies of the sleeve vs. the bypass. Cases of malnutrition are higher in bypasses already. I would like to know if people also have more mental problems that could be related to the malnutrition following a bypass. Aside from that though, Jr. is apparently being investigated for offering to buy Blagojevich's senate seat. It's entirely possible that Jr's nervous breakdown had nothing to do with his bariatric surgery and everything to do with his criminal activity: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1314356/Jesse-Jackson-Jr-offered-6m-impeach-governor-Obamas-old-seat.html
  23. If the lack of intestines is keeping people from absorbing enough nutrients out of the food that they are able to eat then that would seem to encourage cheating more. When I eat low carb or low calorie then my insulin resistance causes me to get really weak which, in turn, causes me to want carbs to gain energy. I wonder if the bypass causes people to overcompensate for the nutrients that aren't being absorbed. Losing and then gaining 100-200 pounds back would be really discouraging! Why would they do the sleeve first and then the bypass later?
  24. makes sense to me. I understand that people lose more weight bypassing the intestines but the negative impact of doing that really seems to outweigh the positive. Robbing the body of precious nutrients when you're already consuming so little just doesn't seem like a healthy option to me.
