  1. I feel ya!!! It's a frustrating process and it's not fair to for insurance companies to make us jump through all these hoops to get a procedure that can greatly improve our health!

My husband and I are both opting for lapband and trust me, I'm dealing with TWICE the stress...cuz, yep, you guessed it...wifeepoo has to deal with all the red tape! All he has to do is diet and see the doc! lol!!

Anyway...just wanted you to know you're not alone...my doc has been draging his feet too...we're still waiting for one more thing from his office that I requested 3 weeks ago!

  2. Thank you for the replies. As I was reading different posts, I realized how it was going to be an adjustment, breathing deeply again, then I thought...OH NO...what if.....

I guessed that guitar would be out for a few weeks as my insision healed, but didn't think about the singing until recently and I kept forgetting to ask the doc.

Guess I should shoot him and email and ask for a realisitic time frame before thinking of performing again. I wasn't going to tell people what kind of surgery I was having, because I didn't want a bunch of questions...but I guess I'll have to let the band in on in soon.

    Pointers?? Just sing sing sing...it's a natural anti-depressant!!! :)

  3. Hi all! I keep forgetting to ask my Doc...is anyone else on here a singer? If so, has this surgery affected your performance? How long before you could belt it out?

I know it will be a while before I can sing full voice again after surgery, but wanted to know that it will be temporary and wouldn't affect performance for the long term.

  4. musicalmomma,

I was just whining about the 6 month supervised diet I just learned my insurance requires. Looks like we're starting out at the same weight (284?). You've made it through 12 weeks, wow....kudos. Im sitting here wondering how I'm going to tackle the next 6 months and like you keep my BMI where it needs to be for approval. I'm assuming your shorter than me (5'8 because I cant go below 265 or i go below the 40bmi). Anyhow, great job so far and hello from West Allis, WI.

Well, I will have done 12 weeks as of the beginning of April. My provider does not specify a definite time period of diet...only that I under go doctor supervised diet. Doc said, when it's not specified it's usually 8-12 weeks...so we're shooting for the 12 weeks. I'm 5'6 & 3/4...so they're going by bmi for a 5'6 female to be safe.

I'm fairly new to WI. Never been to West Allis...but see its close to Milwaukee...I'm there frequently...at the airport!!! :)

  5. Hi! I am SO glad to have found this forum!!!

Well, a little about me. I'm 38, married (hubby is also going for the band), sahm of 4 daughters. And I can't WAIT to have my surgery!!!

Currently I'm in the "doctor supervised weight loss" phase for insurance approval! There is no set number of months indicated by my provider, so they're going to submit for approval in early April (12 weeks of dieting). I can't get below 252 or I won't be approved because I will have a BMI of 39 and the insurance won't approve it! What a joke! So, I've lost 17 so far with medifast. But it works REALLY fast...so I'm taking weekends off and still losing nicely.

So, I had the psych eval, nutritional consult, blood work, yadda yadda yadda...I'm just waiting for another 7-8 weeks to pass so we can see if my insurance will be so kind as to approve the procedure. Problem is, if I get approved early April, I'll still have to wait until early May because of a trip I am taking mid-April :) Ah well...ok I'm rambling!!!

Well, I have a GREAT doctor and his support staff is WONDERFUL!! They are so supportive and helpful with all the red tape.

Well, I look forward to reading and posting with you all. I'm so glad you're all here :)
