  1. I understand what you are saying about the tax increase due to their manipulations. The thing is, until "everyone" chooses to boycott, until they change practices---it is not going to change, and yes we will pay more in taxes.

BUT, for someone on a tight budget, they are still going to be stuck paying the extra on taxes, even if they do go to Target, or a small local business. And we all will pay the extra until something changes. I do realize for change to take place, something has to change, and the logical thing is for us as consumers to not shop with them. But, when they can save, say $10 bucks on an electric blanket for instance (one thing I price compared recently--and the cost difference), the $10 bucks matters.

It is one of those cases of some people might want to make a stand if they could afford to make a stand.

I mean we don't get a tax break for NOT shopping there. We are going to pay the higher taxes, and also pay more for the item we are shopping for, if we go elsewhere. So when every dime counts....

:clap2: This is exactly what I was thinking, but didn't know how to word it. Great explanation!

  2. MM I haven't been on liquids/mushies for 5 months I just have to go BACK on them after every fill! Sorry for missleading you on that one!! Makes me feel good that you were ready to "rip my Dr a new one" LOL I'm on food now just taking it really slow! I DO NOT want a repeat of what happened w/ my last fill that was a TOTAL nightmare! Gotta run ya'll have a good day! :-)

Aaahhhh...that makes sense! I'm so glad to hear it was just a fill diet :P

  3. Holliwags!!! Congratz on TWOderville! Well done! Time for some new pictures???

I have to say, I'd be telling my doc to go jump in a lake if he had me on 6 months of mushies and liquids. I got the band so I WOULN'T feel hungry, and here your doc is, not letting you even USE your band....AND he's FILLING you and there is NO WAY he can know if you're at good restriction, underfilled, or overfilled if you're not eating solids. I'm sorry if I'm being offensive. I know most of us are very protective of our surgeons...but come on! The whole purpose of the band is to STOP the hunger by letting us EAT small portions of REAL food and feeling FULL!

Again...I'm so sorry for my rant, but I feel for you...I have SO much respect for you for staying on liquids and mushies for over 5 months! You have SO much more will power than most!!

  4. How sad! :( I am SO sorry. To me, it's unfathomable for a surgeon to brush that off so lightly. I know it's neither here nor there now...but I simply can't believe it! You'd think, in today's sue happy environment, that alone would cause the surgeon to send her to the ER at the first call. Or at LEAST bring her into the office! So very sad :(

  5. First, welcome to lapbandtalk

I had to squint to read your post lol! Getting older is hard! :(

I don't have type II...BUT my friend does and I JUST took her to a seminar last night! She's been contemplating lapband since I got mine back in June. ANYWAY, after seeing my success, she finally called me and asked me to go with her to the seminar...

OK...my point now...at the seminar (I never attended one) my surgeon said that RNY bypass had better initial results on type II diabetics...allowing many of them to leave the hospital on NO medication! He went on to say, that MOST type II diabetics do well with lapband too...it's just may take a little longer to get the desired affect. The reason? Because with RNY sugar get's 'dumped' (I am over simplifying). With lapband, there is no change to the digesional tract, so there is no malabsorption. Therefore, sugar is metabolized the same as it was before, with the band.

Hope that helps...I'd strongly advise going to a free seminar, where you can ask questions. I wish I had gone to one...it would have answered A LOT of questions that I didn't get answered until I was well into the insurance process :(

    Best wishes to ya!

  6. I'm adjusting :( I guess that 211 was a fluke or my scale had a bizzare day! I was 213.4 the day before and I should have known something was up when I dropped 2.4 pounds in a day!!! Then TOM came and I gained 4 pounds (on top of the 213.4)...NOW TOM is over and I'm back to 213.4....so...I am going WAY conservative on my challenge, because it's tough enough to lose weight, for me, over the holidays...I'm just not going to stress about it...if I see ANY loss between now and NY I'll consider it a victory!

  7. Before I give my story, a little disclaimer...I am in NO WAY suggesting disregarding your surgeon's prescribed diet!

OK...I was having a tough time of it too...2 weeks liquid, 2 weeks puree, 2 weeks soft, then try it as tolerated....

At my post op appt, I leveled with my doc...I figure, he's a bariatric surgeon, my struggles shouldn't shock him and if they do, I wanted to be the first to enlighten him :) Well, he wasn't surprised OR disgusted by my struggles...He said to me "Well, you're probably ready at this point to slowly advance your diet as you feel comfortable, BUT DO NOT CHALLENGE THE BAND OR POUCH! The first 6 weeks after surgery, the band is MOST VULNERABLE to slippage, so take it easy."

He trusted me to use good judegement, and I did. HOWEVER, I discussed it with him first. I told him how I was stuggling and that I was starving and that I did have a little yogurt and it was OK...I was HONEST with him :D

I guess I am telling you all of this to say this: Call your surgeon and be honest with him/her about your struggles...you may be pleasantly surprised, you may not, but either way, you'll become more focused because you talked it out with a professional :)

  8. I'll never understand why people need to kick other people when they're already down...says a lot about a person...but I digress...

Back to the ORIGINAL post & poster...I'm sorry you've been hurt. It's not a good feeling and it definitely shakes ones confidence when you think it's going great, then you get shocked with a 'sorry, but, buh-bye'.

You never called the guy a jerk...and whether he is or not...YOU are hurting and I'm sorry.

    Hang in there sistah!

  11. It sounds like your wife and I are quite similar...I think if you let her know just how important this is to you and that you desperately need her support, then tell her HOW to support you (e.g. go to a seminar, research band stats with you, maybe even go to your pre-op appt and ask the surgeon questions that have her concernd, etc..) THEN tell her that you WANT her to feel free to ask you questions, even if you'll find them tough or even shameful to answer (we obese ppl carry a lot of shame). I think once you appeal to her senibilities and let her know that she is the most important person to you and that you want to be the best husband you can be and part of that is getting healthy...I believe she'll get on board...even if it takes a little time for her to mull it over :)

Best wishes and keep us posted!! :car:

  12. Thanks beckiet! I hope your infection clears up quickly. I've heard MSRA can be a bugger to get rid of!!! It's VERY commendable that you're sticking with it and losing weight in spite of the infection and non-optimal fill! You go girl!!!

  13. I know you didn't ask for questions or advice...but if I may be so bold...

Why remove it? Perhaps have it completely unfilled first and see how it goes...I would have to ask myself..."Would I have lost 25 pounds without the band or would I have gained more weight over the last 15 months?"

Also, you may be too tight, since you can't seem to eat. That alone would cause a person to take in liquid calories, which add up and are empty calories...hence weight loss stops.

I encourage you to keep searching out your options...but best wishes in whatever you choose :)

  14. I'm surprised you were told to only have 400 calories, at any stage of post-op! Even my nutritionist...who my surgeon feels is a quack...said I should have no less than 800 calories per day from the first day I was allowed to take in full liquids. My surgeon felt between 800-1200 was a good goal to start, mainly because we DO get so hungry until we're filled properly. Anyway, I'm not trying to tell you to disregard your instructions...but perhaps you should call your surgeons office and clarify them.

  15. OK...I can't wait hehe...I'll update my current weight on Thanksgiving day, if there's a drop from my current weight :)

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here...but there is only 5 weeks and 4 days between thanksgiving and new years day...keeping with 1.5-2lbs average per week...it would be difficult, not impossible, but difficult to lose more than 10-15 pounds and 15 pounds is a stretch for most. Yes, we want to set goals that challenge us, but at the same time being realistic.

PLEASE don't take this the wrong way...I just don't want anyone to be disappointed or feel like they've failed if they don't make their goal. Hope I didn't offend anyone :phone: I think you are all amazing people and I admire all of you! :car:

  17. do you get the pain only when you eat or do you get it other times too? If you get it at other times...you need to call the doc post haste! If it's only when you eat, try liquids for a day or two...you may have irritated your stoma or espheagus (sp?).
