Birth of baby to Lap Band

I doubt you'd find a surgeon to do the band that soon after giving birth, especially if you plan to breast feed. Even if you did, and even if you were self pay, the process may not move as quickly as you'd like. So, just keep your mind and options open Congratz on your new baby!!!

    Need Help Please

Yeah...it happened to my friend who was banded a couple of weeks ago. The doc changed her meds and gave her suppositories to stop the heaving. Don't wait for the office to open...this is serious and you should call and leave a message with the service. Your band is most prone to slippage in the first 6 weeks and the heaving can cause a slip. Best to get that under control immediately. Best of luck to you and your wife. DH and I were banded this summer and we're both doing great! It can really bring a new deminsion to your marriage relationship

    Post-Op Activities Question

6 weeks should be fine I would think, but run it by your surgeon. I took my kids to the county fair last month and most the rides I USED to LOVE really bothered me. It's like the G-force against my band/port really bothered my insides. Not PAIN per-say, just very uncomfortable, thus making the ride unenjoyable. I sure hope it passes, cuz we're going to Disney in March!

    Just Need to VENT!!!

OK...I am over THREE months out and ALMOST 50lbs off!!!! YAY ME! Now the vent!!! A friend of mine, 10 years my junior, 8 inches shorter, had lapband 9 days ago...She lost about 10 pounds since surgery and I am standing with her today in the church parking lot when a mutual friend drives by and says to her WOW...You're looking GREAT!! What a difference!!! Now this person has NEVER ONCE mentioned MY weight loss!!! I have dropped almost 50 friggin pounds am standing RIGHT THERE and NOTHING!!!! My friend talked the doc out of her pre-op diet, isn't following the post of diet, drops 10 pounds with ZERO effort and I am FIGHTING my ARSE off for every frigging ounce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!! Right now I HATE my life!!!! GRRRRRRR  Don't get me wrong, I do not begrudge my friend her loss, I am happy for her...I just wish people would say something to ME TOO FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!!!!

I really don't want to hate my family...

I dunno...a visit to the local Soup kitchen or social services or talking to some foster kids or checking out the local shelters sheltering domestic violence victims...etc...that usually puts things into perspective for me... So many times I find myself throwing a good old fashioned pity party because I chose to be a stay at home mom, rather than climbing the corporate ladder. I think to myself that we COULD be in a 5k square foot home, rather than our 2400sf. I think, we could own a BMW and/or Land Rover, rather than our Ford Edge. I think, I could be shopping at the upscale shops, rather than Walmart & Kohl's. I think of all the STUFF we could have IF I just kept climbing that ladder. Then I look around me and I think of all the people in the list above and think just how grateful they would be if they could spend a day in my shoes! No matter how bad you think you have it...someone else (thousands of others) would trade places with you in a heartbeat! Count your blessings...it's the ONLY way to find peace.
  9. musicalmomma

I hate a lot of you. I really do.

I agree with WBB...we're far harder on ourselves than others. I know I've never really felt very pretty...I always do my best to look my best, but always felt average at best. But, from what I've been told, I'm quite the cutie....go figure....it's hard for me to swallow. In fact, early in my marriage, DH got angry at me because every time he told me "You're so pretty..." I'd say "no I'm not" and he finally lit into me and told me off...so, I finally started to just say "thank you" and "I'm sure glad you feel that way". As the weight comes off, I feel more and more confient and you will too!!

    Finding a boyfriend/girlfriend on LBT?

I met DH online, Mirc (remember that relic?). I lived in Wilmington, DE, USA. He lived in London, England. I am 6.5 years his senior and had 2 daughters from a previous marriage. We started out as friends and I even tried to help him win the heart of a girl there in the UK. But, long story short, we ended up falling for each other and are married happily for the last 9.5 years...with two more daughters added to our happy family  So yes, true love can bloom on the internet!

    Band Size

OMG...tell me he was just kidding around!!!! At my last fill, my surgeon quizzed DH and I on the band and size we have (DH - VG 10cc, ME - Inamed 10cm/4cc). We recited our band types and he said "Very good, you need to be educated on the band type you have in case you're ever in an emergency situation."
  13. musicalmomma

    Oa

Thanks Denise  So, it would be acceptable to state "Hi, I'm 'so-n-so' and I'm a recovering compulive overeater"?? That I can deal with!
  14. musicalmomma

    Band Size

There's a 10cm Inamed Band - Holds 4cc's There's a VG Band - Holds 10cc'sf These are the only two I know of...anyone else know of any other band?

    Just Need to VENT!!!

You are SO right about that!! My friend told EVERYONE she got the band...I only told a handful of close friends, so it's not common knowledge. Like you, I kept it on the down low because I didn't feel like giving daily updates to every one and their brother! :woot: Yesterday...FINALLY...someone that had NO CLUE I have the band said to me (DH's Boss in his southern drawl) "Hey! Yer loooosing weight!" I said "Yup! 50 pounds!" He said "It looks good on ya! er eh, off ya!" Then he told me that his wife noticed at the company dinner last week too. So, that was the BEST compliment because I knew it was genuine.

    Needing Your Opinion..Please

AMEN!!!! :clap2: My DH is 200lbs over weight...our surgeon found his port with a 2 inch needle WITHOUT fluro...it took a couple of minutes and a little finess, but he got it and now DH has good restriction. Rediculous that you would be told you're too fat for a fill...REDICULOUS!!! Something wasn't done right at surgery IMHO. I agree with Kacee...pick a bone with that surgeon and please stay away from Doctor Tummy Tuck!
  18. musicalmomma

    I Seriously Need Some Advise

I totally Agree with Kacee... First, I want to say, it's wonderful that you are weighing everything very carefully and not simply jumping through the hoops your surgeon is putting out there. With all that said. My husband was a BMI of 60 and was banded last month and is losing quickly at this point. I was a bmi of 40, banded June 1 and am doing VERY well. The first 2-3 months post op CAN be, and very often IS, extremely frustrating to the new bander. After the initial swelling goes down, the hunger kicks back in for most. The band has no saline in it and the restriction is very little to none. It took me 3.5 months to finally acheive good restriction and hit my sweet spot. Now I'm not "dieting"...now I feel full on a small amount and the fullness lasts 3-5 hours. Before hitting my sweet spot, yes it was HARD work. Now it's basically effortless, providing of course that I make wise food choices and exercise. Remember, bypass alters your entire digestive system. It is malabsorbtive. Not only are you not absorbing calories, you are not absorbing vital Vitamins and nutrients. MANY bypass patients, and one I know personally, is suffering from sever Vitamin deficiencies and all the injections and supplements aren't cutting it for her. This is NOT the case for all bypass patients, but it is certainly something to consider. The recovery time and hospitalization time is about double the lap-band as well. On a vanity note. I personally love my hair and given that a large percentage of female bypass patients lose a large portion of their hair, vs a very minute amount of banders, that alone would give me pause to bypass. In the end, the decision is yours. There have been MANY successful bypass patients...but I honestly would take stock in my surgeon if he/she is pushing a much more expensive and invasive and life altering surgery over a safer, less expensive, less invasive procedure. I'd also question a surgeon that can't get around my liver after a week and a half on a liquid diet. Perhaps this surgeon is the problem and not your decision. Just some food for thought. Keep us posted on your decision...you'll find support here no matter which you choose.

    Band removal? Why?

Ditto! It's as if I had written this myself.
  20. musicalmomma

    Oa

I went to OA, with whosyadaddy, last night (yep, I'm the wife). It was our first meeting and we may try a couple of different meetings to see if there's a better fit for us. I like the program, it's based on the 12 steps and 12 traditions of AA. (Never knew about the 12 traditions!). The only point I take issue with is "labeling" myself a compulsive overeater for life! DH and I are believers of the Bible and as such believe the bible when it says "If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, and behold all things become new." AND, "Whom the Son sets free, is free in deed.". I'm not trying to preach to ANYONE here...I'm only stating that from our personal beliefs, that we are not willing to conform otherwise, we can not buy into a life long curse of compulsion. SO, If we must admit that in order to complete the "steps" and stay in the program, it definitely won't be for us. Anyone in OA that can clarify if this is a 'requirement' (for lack of a better word)? Oh, and I definitely will keep my band to myself...I don't think it would be well received.

    Is anyone taking Alli?

OK folks...I'm going to chime in AGAIN regarding Alli... Alli only HALF the dosage of the prescription version. When taken as directed, it shouldn't cause the explosive reactions. I've taken Alli off and on for a while, until I reached optimal restriction (finally there I think!). I never had ANY of the episode's everyone (who hasn't even tried the OTC version) claims will happen. I suppose there is that person with "touchy" bowels that may experience issues, but for me, with normal bowels, I've had none. I don't mean to sound cross or harsh...but I personally believe Alli is getting a bad rap.
