    preop liquid question

Surgeons vary in their pre-op diet requirements. Some require 2 weeks of liquids only. Mine requires a week of medifast shakes only. Some don't have a pre-op diet at all. Some are somewhere inbetween all of these. It all depends on the surgeon. The reason for the liquid fast is to shrink the liver (and some other reason that escapes me at the moment) so the field of vision is clearer for the surgeon to work.

    Hah!

Let's face it, evangelicals and the like (I am the like) have had to choose between the lesser of two evils for MANY moons now!! I guess I'm considered a bad evangelical, because while I believe we all must fight for our rights as believers, and I vote according to my values, and I believe in being well informed. BUT, I also believe that this country is getting exactly what it asks for. We are a country torn and no one political leader is responsible for that. People want what they want regardless of the moral implications. We've become so tolerant of everything that we stand for nothing. The only thing we stand for is tolerance, and it is impossible for everyone to be tolerant of every thing. What has all this tolerance and so called political correctness brought us to? More fighting and unrest than ever before in our nation. People LOVE to fight and argue, from the play ground, to the war zone, it's so evident. I will always stand for what I believe in and support the candidate closest to my values, but I won't force my opions on others, it's futile and only stirs more unrest and arguing.

I dont care what you do or dont believe... BUT

The reason I KNOW this guy is NOT the second coming of Jesus is this... Matthew 24:25, 27, 30, 31 - 25 See, I have told you ahead of time... 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man...' 30 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. This passage is Jesus talking to his disciples. He made it pretty clear how he will return to earth. It won't be some guy who was a petty criminal, then became a more sophistcated criminal.

    I'm New with questions

HUH???? :omg: What in the WORLD do they have to WARN us about regarding plus size clothing?????? What would the label say?? "Federal Warning: Wearing plus size clothing means you are fat! Being fat increases the risk of...well almost every illness. Lose weight and get your clothes from Abercrombie & Finch." Or maybe this: "Federal Warning: Plus size clothing can cause serious injury to your emotional well being, as studies indicate the general public is biased against the obese."

    Hilary Speaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I hardly see how being new to the LBT board and not being banded yet has squat to do with your original post. You really shouldn't start something if you're just gonna hold your breath, stomp your feet, throw a fit, and then run. By the way...to the rest of the posters on this thread...my parents are Baptists, I grew up Baptist and this guy does NOT represent all Baptists, thank God!
  9. musicalmomma

    Hilary Speaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see how any of the replies thus far, to THIS thread, have been rediculous. You are a Baptist and most likely defend Christ to anyone that tries to slur his reputation...why would you expect any less of Hilary supporters? Don't take it so personally when people don't agree with you. It's such a waste to feel negatively towards people that you view as "rediculous". As a Baptist you're taught to pray for your enemies and love your enemies. You're also taught to "not cast your pearls before swine". If you know you're going to be ranted against and it's going to affect you this way, don't post this kind of thread. I'm not blasting you...just remember this is the "rant" section of the thread and don't let differing opinions upset you so much. Peace

    Hilary Speaks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm by far NO Hilary fan...but I find a lot of these so call quotes highly suspect. This woman is a smart cookie. She stayed with a husband that any other self respecting woman would have kicked to the curb decades ago because she knew he was her spring board to running with the big dogs. I have a lot of trouble believing she was spouting off most of that alledged vulgarity. I'm sure she loses her temper from time to time. She is a human after all and she is under a lot of stress too. Again, I wouldn't vote for her if a gun was held to my head, I don't believe in her brand of politics...but she is a professional and I doubt she would spew off as this article would have us believe. JMHO

    401k to pay?.?.?.?

I don't think there's any way around the penalty...and a serious tax hit!! Several years ago...my husband (ex husband now) took out a hardship withdrawal to try to get our butts out of bankruptcy (didn't work)...any way...there was not only a penalty, but at tax time, when we usually got a large tax return, we ended up with very little return. Now, thankfully we didn't end up owing the IRS, but MANY have ended up owing them after a withdrawal. Now this was the early 90's, so perhaps some of the laws and regulations have changed. I know my present husband's 401k won't even allow a withdrawal unless you are going to lose your home or your life. I hadn't thought of the idea of a loan to cover what insurance won't tho! That's a good idea! Then again...I'm always getting offers in the mail for 0% for a year. So perhaps if we get hit with a huge bill, we'll do that... OK...I've rambled on long enough! Good luck with your 401k...I pray it all works out for you!

    Best Airline for Larger People

Whenever possible, DH and I fly Midwest. Now, they aren't the most punctual airline...but most of their plans have extra wide seating, 2 on each side...and the seats are leather! My 430lb dh even fits very comfortably! They fly out of Kansas City...I don't know where in MO you are, but if you're close by, check them out on the web. They are usually very reasonably priced too.

I dont care what you do or dont believe... BUT

Something he said is quite interesting to me...first he said that there was no such thing as the devil or sin....then turns around and preaches that the catholic church is evil. hmmmm??? contradiction?? Me thinks so! It's no surprise tho...there were many fakes claiming to be the reincarnation of jesus in the past and there will be more to follow.

    Tell me if I'm wrong...

I dunno...I have four daughters. The older two are 2.5 years apart and the younger two are 1.5 years apart. My girls wouldn't want to be in a wedding if it was going to hurt the other sister to be left out. I see both side of the dilemma...gotta teach our kids that life isn't always fair. But I look at it like this...if Emily is left out and Cheyenne is kept in, that may stick with Emily and could damage her sense of self worth, hence lasting affects. If Cheyenne is not in the wedding to help spare her sister, she may get mad, but her sense of self worth is not damaged because the reason for her not being in the wedding would be to spare her sister pain. She'd most likely get over it a lot faster. I know it's the Brides day...yadda yadda yadda...but WAY too many brides put WAY too much infasis on the one day they get to be the star. And I know I'll probably get flack for this, but many people see a BIG huge ordeal of a wedding, for people that have been living together, as kind of a moot point. I personally don't understand it. I guess I could understand having a big party to Celebrate finally tying the knot, but can't understand the expensive gowns, flowers, etc when you've already spent years under the same roof. JMHO

    Slim Fast????

Just a thought...but...how about the day you're supposed to leave you "suddenly feel flu-ish" and send the kids along with the in-laws? So you and hubby could have some quiet time alone and you don't have to worry about covering up the diet/surgery? **ooops...just realized that Terridoodle suggested something very similar **

    Tell me if I'm wrong...

Wow...that's a toughie! As I was reading I was thinking...maybe your 11 year old grand daughter could be the Hostess/Guest Book attendee? What about a Jr. Bridesmaid? If there is a program being handed out to guests, she would be listed as such and would not need a boy to escourt her. She would simply come in before the flower girl and ring bearer. If neither of these ideas work for Auntie, like you, I would stand my ground and say "it's both or neither, the choice is yours". I think you've been more than fair and reasonable by offering to buy the dress and accomodate her in any way you could by including both grand daughters. Tell her to watch Dr. Phil's "Bridezilla" episode! hehe

Do you miss eating like you used to?

This was a GREAT question. I hope more band vets respond. This forum is SO helpful!

    pre-op flub

I'm guessing only your doc can answer that with any certainty. My doc only requires a one week pre-op liquid diet...so perhaps he'd let it slide Good luck

    So embarrassed... /rant on

Good for you telling her off!!! Even though people that are THAT shallow don't care...it still does YOU good to know that you stood up for yourself! It may have hit you a lot harder because you are still healing. I know the 3 surgeries I've had in the past...it took over a month for me to not feel so touchy and weepy. I've been told that anesthesia (sp?) has that affect of some people...the post-op depression thing. Hang in there!! That day will be a distant memory and one day, in the not too distant future, you will look at yourself in the mirror and know that you could give that skinny blonde a run for her money!!
  23. Well, DH is telling NO ONE...the only people that know he's having it are the people that I have told, because we're both doing it. I haven't told too many people. The ones I have told have been fairly supportive. My mother on the other hand...feels I just lack discipline and that if I just really "surrendered this problem to God" (NO religious debate here please) I could do it "naturally". I finally just had to tell her to trust me to make the right decision for me and she has since backed off. One person that surprised me, was my medifast health advisor. When I told her I was opting for lap band because I couldn't live on Meal Replacements for years on end, she was quite indignant (sp?) and pulled a superiority complex out on me! I have known this woman for YEARS and never dreamed she would be so unsupportive! But hey...I'm not doing this for "them" I am doing this for my health. I am doing this so I can be the best me, the best wife, mom and future grandma I can possibly be.

    My Surgeon broke his hand!

He said he was running and tripped & fell on his hand. Thankfully it wasn't too serious of a fracture and he was only supposed to have the cast for two weeks. I said to him..."See Dr. K??? I TOLD you excersize could kill you!!!" hehehe
  25. My surgeon had a treadmill accident and broke his hand last week. My DH had an appointment with him yesterday and we asked him how he was doing and did he have to reschedule his surgeries. He said he did have to reschedule. I asked him "How did the patients react?". He said "Well, you know I try my best to be caring and understanding. I really try to help people. That's just how I am....but do you think ONE patient asked if I was 'OK'??" Then we all had a good laugh! My surgery won't be til the end of April or early May, but could you imagine, being on your liquid diet for 3 days, all excited that on Thursday you'll be getting your band, only to get a call stating the doc broke his hand and will have to reschedule you??? I have to admit...I'm sure glad it wasn't me!
