Feel like a bulimic...could use some help

Man this post really scared the bejezee's out of me! It REALLY made me think about the decision I am making to have this done. I remember the surgeon telling me that being too tight can actually cause you to gain because you end up drinking milk shakes and liquids with empty calories just to get full or eating stuff like cake, chips and Cookies cuz they at least go down easier. I put that little talk in the back of my mind and it came back to my rememberance while reading this thread. Gosh...maybe I should just post a new thread titled "scared to death now"...I mean, if this were a rare case, no biggie...but it seems to be fairly common. I'm sorry Michelle, I am in no way finding fault with you. Believe me, I totally sympathise. I just know that I am a stress eater...I have an unhealthy obsession with food...and it seems like people struggle more with the band than with RNYbypass... :phanvan
  2. My parents are from the south too...They got switched (a couple of times). My brothers and I got switched (a couple of times). Boy did we learn FAST! haha! There was a study done recently on the most common problem in schools 50 years ago vs. today. 50 years ago, the two most common problems in school was 1- running in the halls and 2-talking in class! OOOO...BIG problems!!!! Today? 1-Extreme Violence 2- Rape! Yeah, we sure are getting better as a nation by changing the things that worked 50 years ago aren't we?

    Stranded and P.O'd.

I gotta agree...even with the safety issue...he should have at the VERY least offered to call someone for you. I would call or even write a courteous letter to the pastor of that church and tell of your experience. As Victoria said, many churches give a key to anyone in charge of a ministry at the church. But if you send a letter and it wasn't the pastor, he/she can find out who it was and deal with it and maybe even apoligize to you. I'm really sorry...that must have been a scary and frustrating experience!

    Please help me

I'm a little confused...can we not take prilosec or the like after being banded? Or does it just not work with the band? This concerns me because I already have reflux issues and KNOW before I go to bed, buy the feel of my stomach, if I will have an issue that night and like Melody, will purge before going to sleep just so I don't wake up choking in the middle of the night.
  5. My doc does his surgeries on Thursday's. He broke his hand on a tuesday and had to cancel at least two weeks of surgeries the next day...well, he puts us on a liquid diet for a week prior to surgery...I couldn't imagine if I were one of the patients thinking "tomorrow is the BIG day" and getting that call!!! "Sorry, we're going to have to reschedule you and can't give you a date until the cast comes off in two weeks!" Can you imagine? Liquid fasting for six days and then told it is post poned indefinitely!?!?!?! I would have freaked!!! He was so funny though...I asked how he was feeling, and he looked at me so surprised and said "Thank you for asking, I'm doing MUCH better". He later told me that none of his post poned surgery patients gave a rats patootee about his broken hand! LOL Anyway...I feel for ya...in a few months this will all be a distant memory Hang in there

Your MOST embarrassing experience? Spill it people!

I don't embarrass easily...but... I was up for a promotion at my job at the time....I was wearing a very nice skirt and blouse...went to the rest room to prepare for my interview...came out of the rest room...walked confidently past the manager and VP (a MAN) that would be interviewing me and to my desk to pick up a pad of paper and pen...as I passed my co-workers desk she says very quietly, yet urgently "JOYCE! Stop!!" She comes to my desk and PULLS MY SKIRT FROM MY PANTY HOSE!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I was mortified and did not want to go to my meeting...because I KNOW they saw my granny panties and probably had a good ole laugh!! Maybe the good laugh put them in a good mood though, cuz I got the promotion!

    Bmi?

Well, my surgeon told me that my BMI can't be under 40 when they submit for insurance approval or it would be declined. So, I am hovering at 40.9 right now...biding my time until it's submitted in two weeks! Check with your insurance company again and tell them to send you the portion of your policy regarding weight loss surgery. I had mine send it to me and it really helped

    Bathroom Problems

pepcid AC is for acid reflux, not diarrhea...i'd call the surgeon's office and see if it's just a passing thing (no pun intended) or if they'd want you to take an anti-diarrheal (like Ammodium AD)

do you need to buy new shoes ?

When I lost 50+ pounds before...my "wide" feet were no longer "wide", but the length didn't change Anyway....just think...this opens up a whole new dimension of shoes for you to explore!!! fun fun fun!!!!
  10. It's probably a combination of being slimmer AND the confidence you exude from knowing you look and feel great! Feels good tho doesn't it?
  11. This is a REALLY good point. One size does not fit all when it comes to discipline. I have four daughters 18, 16, 7 & 5. They are all wonderful girls, but I learned...maybe not quickly enough...that because they are all individuals, they have to be disciplined as such. One responds to a spanking better than a 'time out' or being grounded (no I do NOT spank the teenagers any more haha!). One responds better to having privileges taken away. I wish I had learned earlier what discipline would have worked better for my 18 year old. Although she is a remarkable young woman, graduated valedictorian of a class of 458, top of her nursing class in college, loves her part time job, is honest, giving and caring...she has some resentments towards me for the forms of discipline I chose. My 16 year old is the care free type personality that forgives easily...she understands that I am human and lets go of it when I blow it. Anyway, I rambled on to say...our discipline approach should fit the child. And please parents, don't be afraid to tell your child when you're wrong. All four of my sweeties know I will fully admit when I've been wrong and ask them for their forgiveness. Kids tend to think their parents can do no wrong...so when a parent acts badly...they get confused. They need to us to admit that we're flawed and be taught to forgive. *stepping off the soap box now*
  12. I am currently teetering at the edge of 40 BMI. Question...is High Cholesterol and VERY HIGH Triglycerides (sp?) considered co-morbid conditions? If not...I don't want to lose any more weight before submitting to insurance for approval.

    Nervous Wreck

I can't believe they waited until the week of your surgery to tell you what kind of diet to expect! That seems a little negligent. Did you get an actual sample diet plan for each phase post-op? As I understand it, the first 4-6 weeks are the most crucial for following the plan to the letter. Then a little trial and error is in order within the stipulated guidelines. Anyway...like you, if I thought I'd never again be able to enjoy most of the things I like to cook and eat, I wouldn't have WLS. I chose lapband because it actually has the most flexibility regarding WHAT you can eat while assisting you in eating MUCH LESS of it Best wishes for Friday. Keep us posted

How did you come up with your User Name?

no real mystery in mine....I'm a musician & momma
  15. Ain't THAT the truth!!!! I didn't answer the poll only because there is a BIG difference between "smacking" and "spanking". Spanking, done without anger, always with prior warning, with discussion before and after about 'why' they are getting a spanking, is NOT child abuse nor poor parenting. When I hear the word 'smacked', I invision it being done out of frustration and in the heat of the moment. That is not discipline, that is the parent venting on the child.
  16. One thing to consider tho is...if you're going through insurance, most of them require you to be on doctor supervised weight loss for a period of time (anywhere from 8 weeks to 12 months!). I would check with your insurance carrier and find out what the requirement are for Weight Loss Surgery...I even had my company send me the portion of the policy that covered the requirements so I had it in writing. Best Wishes!!!!

OOOOOHHH OK...I gotcha now. Yes I would agree that boycotting using all money would be a rediculous response. I misunderstood you. Thanks for clearing that up for me TOM

    Another E-Mail Debunked

I believe people have to right to stand for what they believe...if they choose to boycott a coin that removes a certain phrase, it's up to them...they have the right not to use currency they find offensive. If you are not an advocate of a particular groups stance, you can hardly tell that group HOW to make a stand for it. You can only state what kind of stand would be palatable to you personally. Limiting conservative Christians to carrying a bible or crucifix to stand against removal of a Christian phrase on a coin...would be like limiting GLAD to wearing a Rainbow ribbon or T-shirt to stand for their equal rights. Just because you may feel that the 'equal rights' issue has more credibility and importance doesn't mean conservatives don't take their issues and threats to their rights just as seriously. Conservatives have the same rights to voice opinions and boycott what they find offensive as any liberal. Liberals aren't the only ones with voices and just because liberals would like conservatives to roll over and shut up, doesn't mean they will. I hardly believe that boycotting a coin would destroy commerce of the country. sheeesh... WOW, just perhaps it MIGHT cause the government to...oh I don't know...apologize and put the phrase back on the coin?? WOW, wouldn't that be something...someone stands for what they believe and gets results? Imagin that! :success1: Either way, I wouldn't have been surprised if they did remove it from the coin and I wouldn't have boycotted the currency had they done that. I would have accepted it as an inevitable sign of the times.

    Another E-Mail Debunked

I never said that money should have a religious statement, only that people should not be ashamed to stand up for what they believe in. I think you read into my statement. I personally don't care what they do or don't put on our currency...our nation is far from a Christian nation and God isn't impressed by our "in God we trust" B.S. cuz that's what it is....B.S. Personally, I trust in God...as a nation...we don't...therefore I feel it's kinda hypocritical to state that we do.

    Another E-Mail Debunked

The thing is, they are keeping paper dollars in circulation. As long as they do that, the coin will flop IMHO. When the UK switched to the pound coin, they phased out the pound note. Now you can't get a pound note, forcing people to use the pound coin. If they phased out the dollar bill, the coin would take off because we'd have no choice. So, I think they need to decide which we're going to use and get on with it...toss out one or the other and move on already. As far as "In God We Trust"...I don't think anyone should be ashamed of themselves for boycotting money that would remove that phrase. They have a right to stand for what they believe as much as anyone else.

    Can't take it anymore!

Gosh! I am so sorry you're having such a terrible time with the band. I don't understand how any doctor can hear what you just said and say nothing's wrong and it's just stress. Sounds to me like HE doesn't want the stress of investigating the issue. I'm glad you're going to see a different doctor. I wish you all the best in finding the right solution for you.
  25. DH is a diet coke addict!!! As soon as we committed to having lapbad, he gave it up...cold turkey!! I was SO proud of him. It was really hard for him for about two weeks, but after that it got easier every day until now he only thinks about it once in a while. He's been diet coke free since December 20th.
