Hi Diane  I'm in day 5 of my pre-op, liquid diet. What kind of pre-op diet are you doing and how long? Mine is 6 day's full liquid Protein diet, 1 day Clear liquids. As for suggestions...I wish I had some tricks...all I'm doing is getting through it a day at a time. It's really tough, but I believe it will be worth it. Come join us in the General Forum, under June 2007 Bandsters thread. We're discussing this topic, among others
  2. You are SO right here!!! I'm not post-op yet, so perhaps my surgeon will explain this to me on Friday, BUT I didn't know the extent of the damage I could do if I didn't follow the post-op diet! Thanks for explaining it...I will be even more vigilant because you educated me.
  3. Oh, I know...I didn't say R&R was a bad thing...just let our poster know that it's not a great place to seek support. I don't go in R&R if I'm feeling like our poster is feeling right now...when I'm feeling insecure or depressed, I look for a more upbeat thread. That's all I was trying to convey. Now, when I feel particularly rambunctious or mischievous, I check into the R&R area or the board
  4. It happened the same way for me as it did for Pippz. I'd call the surgeon's office...sometimes you receive the approval letter before they do!
  5. Hi lor  The "thread killers" thread is in the "Rants and Raves" section of the LBT forum. Most people go in there to blow off steam or vent negative feelings. A lot of people, NOT ALL, but many who post there, don't really post much in other areas of the forum. They need a place to vent and they vent. Or they need a place to voice an opinion, so they do it in there. I think if you post real concerns in the "support" area or "post-op" area, for instance, you'd get mostly constructive and supportive advice and concern. I learned the hard way to just stay clear of the "rants & raves" section of the forum unless I'm in a 'scrapping' mood. It's not a good place to get support. The rest of the forum is mostly supportive and informative. I'm in the pre-op liquid diet phase now...on day 5...I feel your pain. You've been in what they call "bandster hell" longer than I have, but I really do feel your pain. Hang in there...from what I understand, once you get the right amount of restriction, via fills, your hunger will subside

    Binge Eating Disorder

This is a good question. I think most of us here have binge eating issues. I didn't know there was actually a disorder diagnosis...but I'd have to say I would definitely be diagnosed with BED. I'm very interested to see the responses.

    Sharp pain in chest

I agree...get thee to a doctor...chime in later and let us know how you're doing.

    liver question

I believe it's not so much the protein that de-fats the liver, as it is the lack of fat and carbs. I think depriving the system of fats and carbs causes the liver to shrink and get flat and also causes more rapid weight loss. By laying off the fat and carbs, the body is forced to burn fat as fuel. At least that's my understanding.

    The NEW "I'm Fat"

WOW 77 pounds in 10 months!! That's fantatic!!! I think in time your head will catch up to your body. Personally, I have never been thin, so I am SURE it will take time to adjust when I reach goal, but it's an adjustment I'm willing to make hehe! You are an inspiration!!! My family is going to Disney 9 months, to the day, after I'm banded. I started at 284, am now 258. My goal is to break 200 by then. Looking at your stats, I get very hopeful!!! Thank you for sharing and take it easy on yourself...you're doing GREAT!

Heather: I am TOTALLY with you...can't wait to be put under just so I won't feel hungry!!! haha!!!! Last night I came SOOOO close to chewing food and spitting it out! Then I realized there was NO WAY I'd spit it out! So I refrained! 4 days down, 3 to go. On the up side, I weighed in today and lost 7.5 pounds since Friday! Been riding my bike every day! I LOVE it!!!! So glad I invested in a good bike! Speaking of bike riding, gotta go ride with my 7 year old to school. She's so excited to ride her bike to school like a big kid!!! Have a great day everyone!!!<O:p</O:p

    Big Medicine

I stumbled on the program while channel surfing last night...it was pretty darn good!! I'll try to catch it when I remember! I too hope they show lap-band as well. I kinda wonder if lap-band would have been more appropriate for that teenager that had bypass. Her teeth now look like they're rotting out of her mouth :phanvan. Not a good thing. Other than that she looked fantastic!!!
  12. Hi Quinn  Welcome to the LBT! There's a lot of great info and support here.

    New, Pre-Op

Hi Forestcat5! Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to get info, support, and pass the months leading up to surgery! I know it can seem like an eternity, but it will be here before you know it! Best of luck to you!

    Soon to be banded

Yeah, this liquid diet is a little...well...boring to say the least! It's not forever tho. I got some light minute made lemonade and sugar free popcicles. Blend one popsiscle and about 4oz of lemonade for an icee. It's pretty yummy. My problem is all the sweet/cold stuff. I am REALLY craving some savory, hot food...something I can CHEW...the broth is getting OLD! I've read of several people chewing food and spitting it out. I don't think I'm strong enough to spit it out! So, I'm staying away from it! OK...rambling now! Best of luck to you!

    June 2007 Bandsters

Yep! We're on the same page there!! I just realize how much I use food to deal with...well...EVERYTHING!!! Our kids can't quite understand...even though they probably want to. My 7 year old told me "mommy, I'm worried about you not eating". I had to assure her I was following dr's orders and getting in all my nutrients with the shakes. She's so tender and scared about my operation. It's hard on the family too, I need to remember this. So, we're all in this together, learning together, how to face life without bingeing! We'll do it!

    June 2007 Bandsters

Hi Lisa...I also have two weeks of full liquids after surgery. I'm in day 4 of my pre-op liquid diet. I can't believe how hard this is for me. I can't wait until Friday...at least after surgery I can have FULL liquids, so I can have soups and yogurt and pudding...I'd give anything for a yogurt right now!!!

Today, I am going to see Pirates of the Carribbean III...Bringing my protein shake, gonna buy a S.F. soda, and take my life savers. Ja9va...congratz on the ticker!!!! You update it by going back to tickerfactory.com. Put in your pin and just fill in your new info. It should update directly on this site once you enter your new info. I don't know WHAT I was thinking last night. I work with the teens in our church and we had a small turn out last night, so we decided to have a bon fire. The youth leader brought smore's and hot dogs and asked me BEFORE group if I could handle it and that she'd understand if I wanted to go home. I said "no problem, I'll be fine!" AAAARRRRGGGG!!!! Those smores and hot dogs looked like a gourmet meal!!!! I was salivating and trying to justify that "melted marshmellows are basically a liquid right? And if you melt chocolate it's liquid too right???" BUT, I did not give in to temptation. I drank my water and had about TEN sugar free life savers!!!! Blech! You'd think this morning I'd be so proud of myself for staying strong...funny enough...I STILL kinda wish I had one!!! Isn't that sad????? Well, I gotta get off here and take the kids to a parade! Happy Memorial Day!!!!

    Passport problems

Hi Marlynn  I doubt it will cause a serious issue. My previous married name is on my passport...I sent it in for correction and all they did was stamp the back of it with my new name. I've travelled out of the country SEVERAL times since then and my ticket says Bailey, my passport picture page says Hamilton and they have never once checked the back page or made mention of the names being different. I think if you take your license along with you, you should be fine. I'd still call or stop in at the post office Tuesday to see what they say about it. But it probably won't even be noticed.

    June 2007 Bandsters

Hey all!! Just a word of caution with the "any whey" DON'T try to mix it in REALLY hot liquid...it's clumps and YUCK!!!! I had to pour out my broth it was sooooo bad! But I am still being 100% compliant to the liquid diet. Now that day three is almost over, it's getting easier. PHEW! Well, my daughter and I went on a bike ride today and I think I over did it a little! We went 10 miles...it's such a beautiful day that we didn't want to stop! Now I am SOOOO sore!!!! Think I'm gonna take a nap. :notagree Have a nice memorial day everyone!

    June 2007 Bandsters

Heather: I get to drink as many high protein shakes as I want (they gave me a list) and as many clear, sugar-free liquids I want. I think I messed up a little last night because I had a cup of tomato soup...it's kinda high in carbs. So, today I bought chicken and beef broth for some savory and hot variety. I have a RAGING headache!!! I know it's because I'm detoxing, but thank God, I haven't cheated! Oh the temptation!!! Huntersmom: We feel your pain!! It IS sooooo hard not to cheat. When I diet, I cheat at will...but THIS is NOT a diet...I have had to keep reminding myself of those people that couldn't get their bands because their liver was too large, or the one's that had to convert to an open procedure because of an enlarged liver. I DO NOT wanna go there...so I'm taking it as it comes....the temptation is the worst for me mid-day. From 1pm - 6pm. Once I get past 6, I'm OK. But those 5 hours are super tough. Hang in there...we'll be banded and past post-op diet before we know it!

    My Psych Evaluation

I would advise filing a complaint with whatever board regulates liscensing these so-called doctors. I'd also advise letting your surgeon know what a nightmare she was. Our psych doc was a gentleman with me, but was cursing like a sailor with my husband. THEN led him to believe all was well and good, and THEN sent the report to our surgeon stating Jon needed follow-up! When we reported his irratic behavior to our surgeon (He wore GREY SWEATS and had his TWO border collies in the office with him) and told him about the swearing, our surgeon wrote him a letter telling him that his office would no longer be recommending him to their patiens. Sorry it was such a nightmare for you. Thankfully it's over and you're on your way to a healthier happier you!!!! Congratz for suriving this most grulling step in the process!

    June 2007 Bandsters

Well, I'm in hell with ya Heather! This is WAY harder than I thought it would be!!!!! WAY HARDER!!!! I started my period today to top it all off!!!! Guess I should be thankful that it will be over before surgery and won't be back until I'm mostly recovered tho. But it sure makes being good SOOOO hard!!!! I bought the "any whey" today! Just cooked a can of campbells chicken noodle soup, strained it, sprinked in the poweder while whisking, then heated up a little more, then it still needed a chicken bullion cube, but dang! It was like a warm bowl of comfort!!!! I didn't taste the powder and it's a nice change from the sweet shakes, popcicles and jello! It was $20.99 (that included tax), 30 servings, GNC. It has 17 grams of protein, 70 cals! Good stuff! I had a major blow out with my 16 year old today (she'll be 16 June 12th actually). I know I'm hormonal and hungry, so that doesn't help. We usually get along VERY well. She's such a good kid, but now my coping tool, food, is gone...this is an eye opening experince to say the very least!!! Welcome to all our new Junies
  25. Thanks for proving that christians ARE in fact persecuted. So you would kill christians just because they don't agree with you and follow the teachings of the bible, but would give life in prison to say...sadaam huessein?????? what a hypocrite...
