I feel like such a failure!

Thank you all sooooo much for the encouragement, advice, and support. At my appt today, my surgeon saw the disappointment on my face before I said a word...he said "What's wrong? No eye contact today?" I said "I've had a bad day and I gained weight". He looked at my chart and said with a shrug "WOW, that's not bad at all!" Then he explained how most people maintain or gain a little until they get the proper restriction. He pulled out a chart and showed me the "zone" I will progressively achieve. He also told me that the 4 days I spent in the car will also cause me to retain Water and that he bet those extra pounds would come off quickly with some extra water and exercise. He's such a supportive man! GOOD NEWS...He found my port!!!!!!! I am now the proud owner of 1.0 cc in my 4cc band. He told me that next month, there will only be about .5 cc in there because of the tiny bit of air in the band now causes a slight reaction of some sort and decreases the first fill by about .5cc over the course of a couple of weeks. More good news...I am NOT giving up ice cream, but I AM going to limit my intake to no more than twice a week AND limit it to a single serving of a lower cal version of ice cream (skinny cow or WW). I'll try some of your suggestions of yogurt and frozen fruit...I'll add some davinci sugar free choc syrup and it should hit the sweet frozen spot! You all are so wonderful to me...thank you again for your wisdom and support.

    OK, Now I'm Freaking OUT!

I am SO upset!!!! The nurse from my surgeon's office called me on the 15th, told me my white blood cell count was a little elevated and I had to get clearance from my PCP before surgery on the 1st! She faxed my test results to the pcp's office and talked to someone there about them. SO, I go to my pcp on the 16th and he said I was fine! Great right? NOT so fast!!!! The nurse from my surgeon's office calls me again today asking what the status was with my pcp follow-up. I told her I went the next day and he cleared me. She asked what he said about my "abnormal EKG"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! She never told me I had an abnormal EKG!!!! She said she told the pcp's office and faxed the results. I said "HE never mentioned the EKG and you never mentioned it before today!" Now she's going to call them and see what's up! I am so upset!!!! I've been out there riding my bike, swimming, working in the yard...getting my friggin cardio work outs!!!! And here I have an abnormal EKG! I asked her what that meant exactly, she wouldn't say. All she'd say was it couldn't have been too serious or they would have kept me in the hospital! Any of our nurses out there care to wager a guess???? Thanks for letting me vent

Anyone gone to Disney Post Op?

Don't know about the rides...I sure hope they're all OK, cuz we're going in March... As far as food in Disney...someone told me that as long as you show your lap-band card, they will let you eat off the kids menu at kids price. They're quite accommodating

    2nd Fill

Oh GOSH, I wish I were you Toni!! haha!! I am going for my first fill today...however, I'll be surprised if he does it because I can't feel my port, and he told me it may need to be done under fluro, which means another appt at the hospital! I NEED a fill SO bad!!! Right now I kinda wish I just went with gastric bypass.

    Question about surgery day

Mine was an overnight stay. I actually had to stay an extra night because my BP and heart rate were slow to come back up to normal range. Anyway, when I got there, they took me to pre-op, gave me a gown, took vitals, weight, asked me to pee, put leg things on me (the keep circulation up to decrease the likelihood of blood clots), then put me on the gurney and wheeled me to OR Triage where they put in the IV, gave me a shot of something to prevent blood clots...I waited there for a little while, met with the surgeon on more time, met with the anesthesiologist and OR nurse. Then wheeled into the OR, scooted over to the OR table...they put me under right away...I woke up 2.5 hours later in Recovery...no catheter then up to my room. They kept me very comfortable.

    July Exercise Challenge

Great job everyone!! Here's the updated chart... I need to get my rear in gear...I am NOT feeling motivated and haven't felt motivated in several days!!! I NEED to do what I NEED to do, not what I FEEL like doing! Does that make sense? I need to overcome my 'feelings' and just DO IT! It seems like every time I join a "challange", I lose my motivation! Hmmm...failure mentality???? OK...Gonna post this then move my big ole butt!!!! Have a great day everyone! Mushie Stage Woes

My woe??? I am up FOUR pounds!!!!! I've biked 6+ miles 3x per week, did Water jog for 45 minutes 3x per week, and various other light exercise! My calories have been between 900-1200 daily. I just DON'T get it!!!!!! Last Monday, I weighed in at 252 (after weighing in at 243.5 on Saturday)!!! That was up 8.5 pounds!!! So yeah, I dropped 4.5 of that this week and I should be happy I guess. But I REALLY thought that I only gained water weight because of PMS (which my period STILL hasn't started) and I expected to get on the scale today and be down ALL 8.5 pounds PLUS a couple more!!! I know, I know, "I'm in the healing phase...", "My body needs time to adjust from being on a liquid diet for so long and switching to food..." But DANG....people are asking me ALL THE TIME "How much weight have you lost????" I want to smack them!!!! I really should be thrilled to be down 5.5 pounds since surgery 3 weeks ago....but I WAS down 9.5 pounds 9 days ago!!! I feel bummed! But...I KNOW it WILL come off...this is NOT a diet...this is a way of life and I am GOING to make this work for me! Thanks for letting me vent
  10. After surgery the doc told me that my abdominal wall was thiker than he anticipated and thought that I'd most likely have to have fills under Fluro. I believe he is right, because I can NOT feel my port. SO, question...is it easier for the doc to give me the correct amount of fill under fluro? In other words, will it be less likely for him to be "quessing" and therefore I would perhaps get the correct restriction the first time?? (crossing my fingers) I am SO ready for a fill but have to wait until 7/23.
  11. musicalmomma

    ready to give up

Four months and only 1 1/4 cc? I agree with the rest, you most likely need more fill. From what my surgeon told me of slip symptoms, it doesn't sound like a slip at all.

    It's All About Balance

Balance is a DAILY battle...I win some days, other days I lose...like yesterday! But today is a new day...I'll get on my bike or get to the pool and move this bod! I DO however believe it will be easier to be balanced once proper restriction is acheived.

Visit to Disney - Restaurant Ideas???

Really??????? This is GREAT news!!!!!!! I LOVE Disney and am going back, for the umteenth time in March. I am SO glad they'll accomodate WLS folks!!! I have always found Disney to be SO accomodating...two years ago, my 5 year old (now 7) got separated from us. I was FRANTIC (understatement of the century!). The cast member assisting me was SO wonderful. She kept assuring me that they have never lost a kid yet ...then 45 LONG minutes later, there she was, with another cast member that found her!!! They were SO wonderful to us, they even gave us passes to pass the line for 5 rides of our choice, since we were detained for so long...and it wasn't even their fault!!! They know how to keep ya coming back!

    Fears of Stretching

I think many of us fear this...but I don't think the Band would be approved by the FDA if it were easily slipped or it was so easy to stretch the pouch. I know it DOES happen with repeated abuse (and sometimes as a fluke) but it should withstand a few episodes of poor judgement
  16. I totally agree...you'll never see the person sitting next to you again. You'll both survive a short flight. Best wishes on your trip and surgery!

    Laurend, how did it go?

Laurend, I've been thinking about you today! I hope all went smoothly for you and you're home safe and sound soon

    My first group support meeting

I just didn't want to rearrange my insides. I chose LapBand because it's adjustable, less complications, can be removed/reversed if there is a problem. If I start to gain weight, I can get tightened...what's left for a gastric bypasser when they gain weight? I absorb my vitamins becasue I sill have all of my intestines...so many bypassers face life long nutritional obstacles. And on the vain side, WAY MORE bypassers lose their hair than banders. I'd rather lose more slowly and keep my hair! I am NOT anti-bypass...I just felt banding was a better option for me.
  19. Well, from a person who's been taking Alli for a week now, I can say that MY personal system has NOT reacted in the way described above. I have not had any sense of bowel urgency or pooped my pants, or had any oily discharge of any kind. Remember, this is HALF the dosage of the prescription medication. A friend any myself went in halfsies and split the pills, giving each of us a two week supply. He also has had none of the warned possible side effects. Now, I can not say that it's helped my weight loss, BUT it's TOM and I'm retaining Water for a couple more days. With all that being said, I don't think I'll spend any more money on it, because it doesn't seem to accelerate loss, but I'm not saving my money because of all the hyped side-affects.

  21. I'm going to be a little stronger with my wording here...I think you'd be CRAZY to try to drive 1000 miles after surgery. Saving money won't mean much if you don't make it home. This is a time to pamper yourself and recover. Ya gotta think...two days of driving there...you'll be worn out (mentally and physically)...you should be feeling as rested as possible before surgery. Then two days back...all alone? Not good. Not good for your physical, mental, or emotional well being. Now if someone else is willing to go with you and do all the driving, you'd probably still regret it, but it would be a lot safer for all concerned. Be good to yourself. Don't skimp on your safety, much less your comfort

Visit to Disney - Restaurant Ideas???

And P.S. YES, take food WITH you into the parks...it's hard to find healthy choices and even when you do, it is WAY too expensive. It's nice, when you're waiting in line, to pass the time with a banana or lf cheese & multigrain crakers. P.S.S....it's hotter that H*ll in orlando in July/August...take lots of talcum powder to avoid heat rash and I ALWAYS wear a pad (sanitary napkin/panty towel depending on where you're from) to cut down on moisture. Makes the heat more bearable Have fun!

:clap2: OH how I NEEDED this today!!!!!!! This is EXACTLY my problem!!!!! I am STILL afraid of food! I still obsess over it...I'm still afraid I won't have enough...of I will eat too much!!! Jachut, if I could hug you right now, I would! But this will have to do  Old Attitude: I MUST clean my plate New Attitude: It's OK to stop when I'm full and leave food behind Old Attitude: I'm afraid of food (too much or too little) New Attitude: I will listen to my body and stop when I've had enough, eat right, exercise, enjoy my life, and the weight will come off in time. Old Attitude: I'm afraid of social situations with food New Attitude: I will enjoy the company and occasion and concentrate on the people. I will enjoy the food, but not more than the people/occasion. "oo..oo..oooooo I got a new attitude...."
