  1. Ask the bougie size and why they choose to use that particular size. They will hopefully explain to you what that means as well. My size was 32 and that means that the tube they use to measure the new stomach from the inside is 32mm in circumference, about the size of a straw.
  2. I hiccup when my sleeve is full. If my sleeve is hungry my nose runs. I know it's weird but that's how my body chooses to inform me. Listen to your tell?? It took me a week of smooshy foods to figure it out.
  3. The flax seed meal wasn't doing anything for me in 3 weeks along with brother....the oil has been great!!
  4. OK so I'm sure this will be tmi but I had the same problem and when I needed to go it was expressly hard in more ways than 1. I went to whole foods and talked to a staff member, she suggested flax seed oil. I have only been using it for four days and OMG what a difference. It's tasteless and u just squeeze a little into your protein shakes or other beverage.
  5. Debby, I had Dr pleatmen too. He comes off as a bit standoffish over the phone but when I met him he was confident and informative. I had a great surgery experience and Dr's hospital was great. If u want specifics please feel free to ask.
  6. I did liquids and one meal a day for 3 weeks. I lost 10 lbs. My DR didn't required a preop, but I did.
  7. I had the same problem.... I ended up having to crush my vitamins and mix them in with my protein shake in the morning or greek yogurt. My surgeon said that the chewable vitamins expand in our stomachs and thats why they don't work for some people. Try mixing them, but if it doesn't work hold off for a few days and try again. You will have a lot of trial and error over the coming months. Good Luck!
  8. I found the same thing and it holds just the perfect amount for one serving. I bought one for chocolate and one for vanilla. It' gets me through the entire work week. Isn't it great how excited we get over the littlest things. When do you get back to FL so we can meet up?
  9. You will not be able to pick them up for a few days, but every surgery and person is different. I had a very good experience, but if your is a bit rougher you might want the help.
  10. I just picked up some flaxseed oil since the powder isn't working for me. Whole foods has a 100% guarantee so keep your receipt.
  11. Welcome Tamaris, Don't be shy we are all here for the same reason some of us strong and others not so much, but we have all decided to do this for the same list of reasons. Look up the topic "12 things" and compile a list, that was my first real step into this forum and I am in love. I am a single chick in the most beautiful place and while I have a lot of verbal support the physical support is lacking because I'm kinda alone here. But 18 days out I am healed up and headed to the gym, figuring out my new body signals was the hardest, but caution to the wind I will have all my VSG friends here to help when I run in the inevitable rough spots. Welcome to the club and the beginning of your new life! Brook PS. Feel free to read my blog linked below and do some research with Eggface you will begin to fall in love with her food created especially for us!
  12. the 2 days after surgery I had that pain every time i swallowed too much. It goes away, but it does teach you how to drink. Learn to listen to your new stomach. It took me over a week to figure out that i'm full when I start to hiccup. The sooner you can figure out your tell the better when you start moving into non liquid foods. Good luck and feel free to follow my blog for details or questions! Always up for answering what I can. Also check out the World According to EggFace her blog and recipes are awesome!!! Especially the protein shakes. I just got my sugar free Torani syrups yesterday!!!
  13. Heather, I was in your shoes too. 200lbs at 10, 300 at 16 and 400 at 29. I love myself and I am comfortable with my body, but I'm not comfortable with 500 lbs. My advise is to research and read this site. There is so much information about everything here. My surgeon said that I was the most prepared he had ever seen someone be at final consultation. I am a pessimistic optimist and go into everything hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Here I am 3 weeks post op and down 30 lbs from my high of 406. I have not been hungry and my biggest problem is getting all my vitamins in over the course of the day. I have been out to eat with my family and friends with no problems. It's 90% a mental game just like any other diet tool. Yes I probably could eat a bite of cake, but that won't accomplish my goal when that one bite is 10% of my food intake for the day. Protein first, water second, vegs third and don't forget the vitamins. Feel free to subscribe to my blog and keep in touch! I am happy to share my story with those that would like to here the raw version. I also posted a picture of my stomach they took out, which was twice the size than a normal stomach should be. Good luck!
  14. Congratulations!
  15. A lot of protein has a high number of carbs... make sure the carbs are less than 5 per serving. Get the samples from bariatric companies... smooth kings gladiator mix is my fact to mix with anything creamy... check out the blog the world according to eggface... lots of food ideas for all stages and product discounts too.
  16. Google "the world according to egg face" she has wonderfully ice cream recipes that u can make with protein... it's a wonderful food resource.
  17. Google "the world according to egg face" she has wonderfully ice cream recipes that u can make with protein... it's a wonderful food resource.
  18. Sleep a lot... I'm on day 4.and I'm 10 times better today than yesterday.
  19. My Dr only uses 32... the difference is millimeters in circumstance. Smaller equals more restrictions equals less food you can eat
  20. Ditch the carbs and hi fat foods.... that's what your doc wants you to do. If u feel u need something take one bite and walk away. It's like anything in life. If someone told u that if u lived as a homeless person for 2weeks and they would give u a million dollars could you do it? This is a commitment make the right Need choices and look to the future. Good luck
  21. Sounds like a personal trainer to me...if setback will pay for ur sessions use the hospital gym they usually have therapists on staff.
  22. I had a good hospitalization. They gave me dilauded (sp) for pain while I was in and then yesterday morning they gave me the Lortab just before I was discharged, luckily it settled ok with me. I get the pain in my chest too. It seems like it is at the entrance of my new stomach. I have found that the creamier drinks aren't as bad. I am up and about at least once an hour and I haven't had any gas ex as of yet. Getting up and down is the hardest part and I can't really lay flat comfortably. No bending over as of yet either. Good Luck!!
  23. Cut out bad carbs and fat...this will shrink the liver. The bigger it is the longer it will take and the more bruising u will have wjn they move the liver. Good luck!
  24. My surgeon only requires one day as well but if u start early u can make it easier on yourself... low fat and low carb will reduce the size of the liver...I've been on one meal a day for almost three weeks.
  25. I am in the same situation. My PCP ordered all the tests my surgeon required. As long as they code them a medically necessary your insurance should cover them. My PCP required over 3K in testing (Sleep Apnea, 2 sets of blood and urine, EKG, Echo, Chest X-Ray and 3 separate Dr visits.) Luckily my payment to the hospital covers my in hospital testing. All my post op blood work will be covered under routine blood work to monitor High BP. Good Luck!
