Chike Protein from Bariatric Advantage
ChooseToChange replied to wannabeskinny's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The carbs were a bit high but I tried my samples anyway. They seemed to be packed with flavor. The strawberry was decent but the others were too much for me. If u have a smoothie king around u try a gladiator... if not check out my blog if u want to try them. -

This is weird, but did anyone ask...
ChooseToChange replied to Catracks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon does a leak test before they finish the surgery. This is my stomach filled with gas to see of there are any leaks. You have to remember that when chewed food gets to your stomach its like mush and it can pack in there. Post surgery I don't know how 2oz can fit in my stomach that is the size of a straw. In and out of surgery with no leaks and no drain in 42 minutes... kuddos to Dr pleatman! -
Does it take 2 or 3 weeks to recover?
ChooseToChange replied to Shea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a desk job and was back on day 9. It took me until week 3 to get back into the gym, but I was walking some everyday. Compression garment on my stomach helped a lot. As for being tired i was always tired before surgery, but unlike before exercise in the morning gives me energy. Get your water in. Good luck with your decision! -
My surgeon in Michigan was 11,000 for everything including the 2 year program...my pcp did my preop and it was covered... my surgery was not covered.

ChooseToChange replied to skyblew's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is your body telling you to stop? I hiccup when I'm full. Listen to ur body. If that doesn't work u may have to count your calories. -

SERIOUS QUESTION PLEASE EVERYONE READ!!!!!!!!!
ChooseToChange replied to Kayla's topic in The Gals' Room
I got a lot of bleeding after surgery. My surgeon said it's the standard transfer from surgery. It lasted a good week. If it goes on for longer than normal call your gyn and ask the question. Good luck! -
What is a Weight Loss Surgery Card?
ChooseToChange replied to earthchick97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 weeks out and just used my card for the first time. My surgeon gave it to me at my preop apt. I have friends in town and I wanted to take them to this killer seafood buffet. I asked for a manager to see what my option was, the server asked if I had my card. I gave it to him and he charged me as a child. I don't have a problem telling people...most of the time they are interested in my progress. When I go to a restaurant I will usually order a plated meal but it was a godsend when an adult buffet is $40 and a child is $12. -
Should I keep the reservation??
ChooseToChange replied to staceybea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call the travel agent and let them know u have dietary restrictions... restaurants will make concessions for u...no sense depriving ur family. Just have them bring u a plate and ur family can each give u a bite and u will be set! -
Do you hate your protein shakes?
ChooseToChange posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Hey everyone! I have been on this site a few months and have noticed a lot of people that hate their Protein shakes. I have tried unjury and Chike and they are both too flavorful for me... By that I mean they are over compensating for what they lack. I do use the unjury unflavored to up the protein on Soup and stuff, but if a recipe calls for flavors it's Gladiator all the way. If you have seen my posts I am swearing by the Gladiator Protein powder from smoothie King. I know that Smoothie King franchises are limited, but because I love it so much I am going to work with my local Smoothie King and become a self prescribed distributor exclusively for this site and friends of my blog. They are changing out the packaging right now and will be replenishing the stores next week 9/6/11. Each container is 20 full servings (45 grams of protein). Being just a month out of surgery I do half servings which makes a container last me a month (40 servings of 22.5 g of protein). I will know for sure next week what the shipped cost will be, but I anticipate it being between $50-$60 depending on the shipping cost. What I will do is send a serving sample (2 oz) to those of you that are interested, just help me cover the cost at $3 for 1 or $4 for two. I will have vanilla and chocolate samples. For now if you would be interested in the strawberry I can purchase it in a sample, but I'm not sure what the cost would be since I have not purchased the full container. Once I figure out the logistics I will add a paypal button to my blog to order and get back to everyone that is interested. I have posted the nutritional information below. Please email, PM or post on my blog so I can contact you with more details. I look forward to helping those who hate Protein Shakes Gladiator® Working out or playing hard? pain whie drinking....
ChooseToChange replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think about your swollen stomach as a funnel. If your sip is too big it has to sit there and drip into your stomach. Once the swelling goes down it will move faster. Make sure you are up walking to get the surgery gas out as well. It's part of the process and it doesn't last more than a week or two. -
How much did you pay as a self-pay?
ChooseToChange replied to FlyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Michigan for surgery with Dr. Pleatmen. It was $11,000 and my preop testing was covered in my PCP office with my insurance. My parents were skeptical about Mexico and FL was way out of my budget. I had a great experience. Feel free to read about it in my blog linked below. Good luck... alot of us have had to deal with the dreaded exclusion. -
My Max was a month when dieting. Then I was so hungry I can't even be sure they were right choices. The only problem I had restricting myself was hunger. I have been sleeved for a month with no complications. My hunger is gone so I can make good choices. The question to u is... why do u eat what you eat? The sleeve takes the physical hunger away, but u have to make the good food choices so u can make it in the long run. Good luck and I hope we see u around the blog!

Pre-op questions for the surgeon
ChooseToChange replied to emily_0192010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask the bougie size and why they choose to use that particular size. They will hopefully explain to you what that means as well. My size was 32 and that means that the tube they use to measure the new stomach from the inside is 32mm in circumference, about the size of a straw. -
How much should I be eating
ChooseToChange replied to Sheenan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hiccup when my sleeve is full. If my sleeve is hungry my nose runs. I know it's weird but that's how my body chooses to inform me. Listen to your tell?? It took me a week of smooshy foods to figure it out. -
The flax seed meal wasn't doing anything for me in 3 weeks along with brother....the oil has been great!!
-
OK so I'm sure this will be tmi but I had the same problem and when I needed to go it was expressly hard in more ways than 1. I went to whole foods and talked to a staff member, she suggested flax seed oil. I have only been using it for four days and OMG what a difference. It's tasteless and u just squeeze a little into your protein shakes or other beverage.

Counting Sugar grams instead of Carbs?
ChooseToChange replied to SKCUNNINGHAM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Debby, I had Dr pleatmen too. He comes off as a bit standoffish over the phone but when I met him he was confident and informative. I had a great surgery experience and Dr's hospital was great. If u want specifics please feel free to ask. -
two week pre-op diet
ChooseToChange replied to thickinphilly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did liquids and one meal a day for 3 weeks. I lost 10 lbs. My DR didn't required a preop, but I did. -
Vitamin-med rejection
ChooseToChange replied to OnTheFenceMomma's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem.... I ended up having to crush my vitamins and mix them in with my protein shake in the morning or greek yogurt. My surgeon said that the chewable vitamins expand in our stomachs and thats why they don't work for some people. Try mixing them, but if it doesn't work hold off for a few days and try again. You will have a lot of trial and error over the coming months. Good Luck!
