    Hyperthyroidism

i have been HYPO thyroid since I was 16 (i am 44 now)... since surgery a year ago my level has been decreasing ....its down to 0.6 as of Monday lowest it's been in YEARS! ....(it has been up to 30.2 in previous years) and I am stable on my medication which is the lowest dose in 30 years! My dr told me just yesterday that she wanted to watch it close in the next 6-8 months because if my weight goes down more I may have to stop the meds....so I dont get hyperthyroid.
  3. woohooo... Welcome to the Loser Bench!! We've been waiting for you! Hope your recovery is quick, easy and you see the results you want soon!
  4. thank you for this inspiring story! I have heard so many negatives about the long term ability to maintain the weight loss... its fantastic to hear a good story! It is all about learning from the mistakes I made that got me to 370+ and learning that I am worth the effort! Thanks again, and I am happy to hear your daughter is also on her way to being healthy! I wish her much success too!!

  10. I havent checked out my license in a while....so after reading these comments about it I had to go look.... I am ALMOST down to the weight I said I was on my license...!! I know the ladies that make the license in our town must laugh their butts off sometimes. I was 370lbs plus and my license says 253, who was I kidding??? Did I really think I was hiding all that?

    Progress.

i have a sweater I keep in my office (because I freeze all the time!) and my co-workers have been teasing me that they are going to donate it to Goodwill while I am off one day.... they say it is way too big for me now! I have never had clothes that were too big for me...and I wanna hang on to it a while longer!! And it does serve the purpose to keep me warm because I can wrap it all the way around me now! Hang on to the jacket a while longer....it'll be motivation on days you feel you aren't making progress!

    Protein shakes and GAS

thanks Mary about the lemon idea...I'll try it. Seems a LOT of things make me gassy (sorry TMI) but for sure the protein shakes do! I think its the milk...not the powder. I just drink them and go on because it's the only flavor I have found that I can actually stand the taste of...and I can't stand to make it with water or soy milk.

    BBQ Smoked meats

i stayed away from bbq sauces because of the brown sugar in most.... but lately I have tried and been ok with baked beans. I have tried some pulled pork and as long as I chew it really well I do fine, just really light on any sauce I put on it. Hope you are able to enjoy some of your favorites.... it makes for a really tough road when you feel you are denying yourself so much! Just take it easy and let your pouch tell you if its a go or not! You'll know right away what it likes or doesnt.

    Things I will not miss...

I know what you mean!! My shirts used to be too short all the time!! And I wanted them long enough to cover my big belly so people wouldnt stare at it. And I cant say enough how wonderful the added energy is! LOVE IT!

    Things I will not miss...

I was actually invited by a coworker to participate in the Susan G. Komen race with her and some other co-workers....and I AM GOING TO DO IT! I cannot tell you how excited I am!! First to have been asked....and second to actually be able to participate!!!! So happy!!
  20. best of luck to you!! Hope you recover quickly!!

    Did you tell anyone?

I have been open about having surgery with family, friends and coworkers.....If they ask. I told my immedate family (My sister is 2 1/2 years out from surgery). I told my boss and a couple of people before surgery....but now I've lost so much they are all asking how...and they are noticing me more. I dont mind them knowing.... I am happy to share. Just didnt want the negative people to bring me down preop. Good luck!!

    Day one post op

Hope your recovery goes smoothly. Walk...even if you dont feel like it, it really helps get rid of gas and will make you feel better. Hang in there, this is tough...but you are worth the effort!! You'll need to rest, walk, sip....rest, walk, sip....keep repeating! Take the meds, dont try to be a hero.... be comfortable! Good luck!! keep us posted!

    Hot then cold vice vera

my hands and feet are usually always cold now! I wear socks and a sweater....and my family thinks I am nuts! but I think it's normal, have heard a lot of people here say they have the same issues. Unless you are having other issues I would chalk it up to loss of our "insulation"
