  1. Hey everyone!! I have not been on this board for a while...being so busy with work and everything! I find that keeping busy makes me think less about food!! My name is Jennifer and I had surgery on 4/3/07 by Dr. Oh...same as Merilee...she is my banding buddy! As of my last visit with the Dr. I had lost 31 pounds and I go in on April 30 for my first fill and I CAN HARDLY WAIT!! :-) Anyway, just thought I would stop in and say hello! Hope everyone has a great week!

  2. CajunCutie, I am in the same boat as you. I am 29 years old and my starting weight was 471. My Dr let me choose which surgery was the best fit for me and he supported my decision. He only stated that the weight would come off faster with the bypass. The time it takes for me to lose the weight isn't of the utmost importance to me. I didn't get this size in 12 months and I don't imagine it would do my body good to lose a bunch of weight that rapidly. My surgeon is a very respected surgeon in the Pacific Northwest and he never once voiced a concern with reaching the port...that just seems like scare tactics to me! I had my surgery on April 3rd and I have my first follow up on Wednesday, but I can truly already see a difference! On the pre op diet I got down to 453! I encourage you to contact me if you want more information on my journey! I am excited and would be willing to answer any questions that I can! Take good care!!

  3. Congratulations on your date! I was recently banded and did the 2 week pre op liquid diet. Like Autumn said the first 3 days are the hardest, but it gets easier...and you will be amazed at the weight loss! I lost nearly 20 pounds in those two weeks! A head start on my journey!! You can have the same success...just make sure that you are changing things up so you dont get bored. I got lots of different sugar free popsicles...that seemed very soothing to me! Good luck!!

  4. I feel much better now, thanks for asking...I do believe it was the liquid pain meds. (Oxycodone) I haven't taken any for 2 days now and have not had one bout of nausea! Yeah...I was getting worried! The pain hasn't been that bad either. The port incision is the only one that gives me a bit of a problem. Thanks for the advice!!

  5. :help: I had my surgery 4 days ago and things seem to be going great, but I have been getting nauseated in the evenings. I have been strictly on liquids and I have a feeling that it could be my pain meds. I called my doc and he gave me suppositories (sp) and that has been a true joy! lol. My main concern is if when I am wretching with nothing coming up if my band is going to slip. I am so scared! Anyone who can respond who has been thru similar thing would be greatly appreciated! Any tips to prevent the nausea would be welcomed as well! Thanks so much!!

  6. :clap2: Well...I AM BANDED!!!! Surgery went very smoothly. I was up shortly after surgery but I did spend the night at the hospital, which I was grateful for. I have been home since 10 this morning and have been walking and resting. The only pain I have is from the port incision, which I guess is pretty common. I also have this feeling like I need to burp, but can't. Has anyone else felt this way? The other thing I liked about the hospital: sugar free banana popsicles!! YUMMY!

  7. Hi guys! I haven't written in a couple of days because I am so disappointed in myself! I thought that since when I was at home the Preop diet was going so well I would be able to continue that on my vacation. Well the complete opposite has happened. Now I am afraid that when I go in for surgery on Tuesday my Dr is going to say GO HOME! You didnt stay on your liquid diet!! I feel like such a failure!! Any advice? Thanks for a safe place to unload my feelings!

  8. Hello everyone...It is now only 6 short days until my surgery. I went for my Pre Op appt with the hospital and I have lost 7 pounds on my liquid diet!! How exciting. I am struggling now to stay on the diet, though, because I am in San Diego for my best friends wedding...My first stop off the plane was the grocery store to stock up on liquids. I am trying to be good!! Send me all of your positive vibes and I am sure I will survive!! :-)

  9. Okay, so I have started my liquid pre-surgery diet. I know that I can make it, right??? food just seems to be everywhere everytime I turn around!! So, I went to a presurgery education class today and now I am worried that my liver will be too big and they will have to do open surgery. I am kicking myself for not working harder the last month to lose as much as possible.:faint: How is everyone else doing with the pre surgery diet?

  10. Jennifer, Have I seen you at any classes? Maybe on Monday the 5th @ the hosipital.

I'll let you know how it goes :(

I was at the class at St Francis on Feb 5th! I bet I saw you there! How exciting! I have been in contact with another patient of Dr. Oh's who I met in his waiting room on my first office visit. It is great to have support and to know others who are going thru the same thing!! Let me know how everything goes for you!!:D

  11. Hi everyone. My surgery date is fast approaching (Apr 3) and I have been busy with all the pre-surgery appointments. I am very pleased that my dr is being so thorough. I am supposed to be losing as much as possible before THE DAY, but I have found myself wanting that last big meal with my friend and my mom and my gram...etc etc. Just an excuse, I know. I am really going to crack down and get with the program these last weeks before surgery. How long are you guys doing the liquid diet before surgery?? I am excited!!!:clap2:

  12. Hello everyone! My surgery is scheduled for April 3 and I am so excited!! I finally decided to do this as I am turning 30 this year and I have been overweight all my life. I want to do so much and I am excited that this opportunity has come my way. I love the idea of having a group of online friends who are going thru the same type of situations as myself. I do have over 240 lbs to lose so I think this is the beginning of a long journey and I will look forward to the support from everyone!! Yeah for us!! We are on our way!!!!

  13. I was so surprised how fast all of this is going! I had my first appt with my surgeon on Feb 21st and I was given a list with about 8 appts that I have to complete with my surgery taking place on April 3rd! My first appt is on March 1st...blood work, chest xrays, psych eval. I can't believe this! It took me so long to come to the decision that this is right for me that I can't believe it is going to be a reality in a month! Just wanted to share where I am at in my journey as each step I complete I get a tad bit more nervous! I visit this site every day for inspiration!! I know that this place will be a big part in my success!!!:clap2:

  14. As I am very excited and nervous to get this surgery done, I have a nagging thought at the back of my mind. food has been my constant companion over the years and I kinda feel like my "best friend" will be dying. I will no longer be able to find comfort in food...believe me this is exactly what I want, nonetheless it still feels a little odd. Has anyone else out there dealt with these feelings? And how did you get thru? What did you find to take the place of eating when you are happy, sad, depressed, etc? Any ideas that can help would be greatly appreciated!!:)
