  1. So are we allowed to eat gum? What happens if we were to accidentally swallow it?

What about popcorn at the movies? Is that something we can ever eat again? If not then why not?

I am only 17 days out right now & not even on mushies yet, so have a while. But was just curious!

I also read about the gum. Right now, since we're about the same post-op... I am almost 4 weeks.... I read that if you swallowed gum, they would have to use endoscopy to remove it! That scared me enough! I did chew some gum the other day but I made sure I didn't swallow it! I just needed something with a burst to get through the day! I haven't chewed anymore though...

  2. D1N... I am having sweet potatos (yummm) but I did have a few bites of garlic mashed potatos. I've been told, don't worry about the carbs so much this first week. You can really only eat a few spoonsfuls so what the heck! Hahahah. With the little bit that we are eating, the carbs are good... not many, but help keeps the energy up. Once we can eat everything again, around 6-8 weeks, then we HAVE to stay away from mashed potatos.

This first "month" is what i meant.

  3. Glad to here I am not the only one struggling with the Protein shake. I thought you couldn't have mash potatoes cause its high carbs

  4. I was sleeves on may first! I have lost 18 pounds total so far! My diet is progressing to mashed potatoes, mashed Beans and mashed vegetables....thank the Lord! I can sleep on my right side now that my drain is gone. I struggle with Protein but now that I can have beans that will help.

I'm going to say this again.... i've posted it so many places!! I can't STAND any of the protein shakes... the taste, the horrible taste and smell makes me want to throw up! GO BUY ISOPURE!!! 20 oz clear liquid in great flavors (i like the pineapple/orange/banana) w/ 40 g protein. One a day.

  5. Monday at 7:30. I am nervous. I start my cleanse tomorrow. God help me! I am still congested. I hope it passes by tomorrow.

GOOD LUCK!!! The night after surgery was a little rough, but the next morning, every hour was an improvement. I had no naseau, just the gas pain issues from the surgery. ANd now, day 13 after surgery, 18 lbs lost since surgery and no issues with moving anymore. No issues with incisions (actually all healed and just tiny little scabs). If I had to say, my expectations were far worse than the actual process!!!

  6. hi everyone i was sleeved may 7th.. doing great ... im sick of egg salad already what is everyone eating? im trying to get Protein in with the shakes so far havent found a good one yet.. any suggestions

Egg salad?? I was sleeved on May 1 and haven't made it to the egg part yet... it's supposed to be week 4 for me! I'm eating apple sauce, yogurt, Soups, tofu, sweet potato.... i can't do any of the Protein Shakes. GO BUY ISOPURE!! I like the pineapple/orange/banana. It's the ONLY Protein Drink that I can actually get down. I can't stand the taste of 100% whey protein isolate. But this stuff has it in it, don't know how they do it, but i can't taste it! And I've tried really hard to taste it!! It's a 20 oz bottle w/ 40 g of protein. One a day. And counts as 20oz liquid

  7. Well it's been 12 days for us!!! it's hard to get a lot of fluid... only b/c all I really want is a diet coke!! HAHAHA I was losing 2-3 lbs a day after surgery, so in 12 days it's been 17 lbs so far. HOW ABOUT YOU???

I'm eating the full liquids and a little more.... I found that i'm hungry when my stomach is gurgling to me! I am having yogurt for Breakfast, cottage cheese, Soups, apple sauce. I had sweet potato the last few days. One time it was only one bite though, because it felt like it was just "there" and I didn't want anymore. I have loved my cream of chicken Soup though! With lots of pepper! And one night I sent my husband to get hot and sour soup from the chinese place, and I ate the broth and the tofu.

I'm interested to know what you are eating! I have had a lot of head hunger... wanting so many things, or at least a bite!!!!! It's difficult!!

My incisions are healing well and I don't have any pain getting out of bed anymore. Also, driving is easy now and I can sleep somewhat on my right side.

  8. I have 13 more days!! Surgery is May 17th! I start my Pre-op on Monday. It's 2 Protein shakes & lean cuisine for dinner with sf Popsicles, etc. I am beyond excited! This is everything to me - I'm refinancing my home to have this. I'm convinced this surgery is going to save my life! I wish my insurance would have covered it, but oh well. I'm so glad to hear you're all doing well! My day is coming!

The lean cuisine's are GREAT! I used those for my pre-op diet too. I haven't found one that i didn't like. THey are filling and very tasty!!I I'm on Day 4 after surgery and feeling really good. I could actually sleep on my side last night. About to go walking again. Still not the least bit hungry and haven't had any solid food for a week! Dr. also found a hiatal hernia (apparently a nice one) and repaired it.... so, I got a 2 for 1 deal!! :)

The head hunger is not bad now when I'm not hungry. I watched my son eat a piece of pizza last night. For a split second I wanted to take a huge bite, chew it, and then spit it out. But my husband talked me out of it! Told me that it wasn't that great.... tasted like cardboard. Hey, I love cardboard! HAHAHA

I'm off most of the pain meds now.... just taking them at night to get a full night's sleep. And, i'm having a 1/2 cup of black coffee right now. Tastes like the best coffee in the world! Oh, and I was 6 lbs up from before surgery (prob from all the fluids by IV), and today i'm 2 pounds down from pre-surgery! So, I drink drink drink and it gets easier!

Hope you all are doing well!

  9. Glad to hear all went well! I'm 3 days post-op and feeling better each day! I can't believe I haven't had any food in almost a week. And i'm not hungry! But my stomach is doing a lot of talking to me... gurgling! LOL

Had a couple sips of coffee this morning, it was wonderful! But then I got jittery, so I guess the coffee will have to wait until I can put some mushy foods in. My incisions are already itching today! That's a good sign!

Walking is helping out tremendously!!! Keep walking!!!! and the sipping is easier now too!

  10. OMG!!! CONGRATS!!! Really only 1 day...My Dr. said that I would stay there for 3 days..just to make sure all was fine....Did it hurt to get dressed and to use the bathroom ( number 1 and number 2)...sorry if this question is yucky...but it's good to know it all...20 days for me...please let me know how you feel..and do you have young ones at home..I have a toddler and Im not sure thats shes going to understand that I wont be able to lift her and play with her...

    Rest up and congrats!!

It did not hurt at all to use the bathroom. In fact, this may sound funny, but sitting on the toilet is one of the more comfortable positions! You don't have a bowel movement until day 2... so that will be today I hope. But still, should not be an issue at all with that. Once I got rid of the gas pains, now i'm mostly just stiff. I wen tto bed at 10pm and woke up at midnight and now at 2am... just stiff and sore, needed to move around.

  11. How often did you get up and walk during the night? And you were up and walking right after getting to your room from recovery? I hope I can do that.

I got up and walked 15 min after I got out of recovery. I was in so much pain from the gas issues that it was the only think that helped. I walked as often as possible. My mom was there at the hospital so she helped me. I think the walking helped a lot! I got sleeved at 3pm.... was walking at 6pm. By 4am the next morning, most of the worst was over with as far as gas pains. Now I'm home and feeling great. Every hour has me feeling better and better

  12. I was sleeved yesterday. I am now home.

The worst problem i had was with the gas in my chest/shoulders/neck.

Don't underestimate walking! As soon as i came out of recovery I started walking immediately and throughout the night. Was still feeling really bad thi smorning around 5am adn didn't know how they would possibly be able to release me. But starting around 9am I started feeling better and better.

The surgeons also found a hernia and repaired it (wasn't that nice!)!

I had a hard time sipping Water last night. Even one small sip feels like you gulped a bunch of air. But I tried a popsicle and it didn't give me a problem. So, I've had 5 or 6 popsicles today and am finally able to sip on gatorade w/out pain.

If you have any questions, let me know!!!!

  13. Dr didn't have me on a liquid pre-op diet, but been on shakes/small amounts off food for 4 weeks now.

I start the liquid diet on monday (tomorrow) and then surgery tues morning.

I just went grocery shopping today to pick up the necessities for the first two weeks.

I got Jello, popsicles, Water, crystal light, broth, Soups, yogurt, some small measuring cups (like the 1-8 oz kind so I can keep up with how much I drink).

I couldn't do the whey Protein (made me gag just to smell it). I was able to find the rice Protein and it doesn't have near as bad of a flavor.

I got the chewable Iron, tylenol gel caps, immodium, mylicon, Multivitamin chewable, Calcium citrate chewable, B-12 sublingual, and chewable Iron (which was hard to find... finally got it at the Vitamin Shoppe).

I picked up my prescripts for the nausea med and the prilosec meds (dr. gave me a script for the first 7 days)

I'm getting my bag packed, laptop, book, comfy clothes, flip flops, robe, etc.

Hope this helps those who are getting prepared!!

    I'll keep you updated!!
