Post Opt 7 Weeks
Skyvic replied to LATONYASINGLETON's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just think of the story of the turtle and the hare. This should not be a race, it's going to take a steady consistent process. Follow the rules and excercise as you gain strength and lose weight. I don't read statistics but I have heard over five years gastric and band end up about same. Yes band is slower. I wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy the journey! -
Is There A Lot Of Complications After Surgery??
Skyvic replied to heather6266's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also when you decide what you want consider the lifestyle changes you will make with both surgeries. I can say that after 268 pounds down to 188, I'm feeling like a success. It has taken longer but my fat has molded back to my body and I excercise ( which I never imagined I would want to even consider). I was in a size 24...now a 12/14. Just look at the big picture. You are going to do awesome just get in the positive mindset that you will succeed! -
Is There A Lot Of Complications After Surgery??

What might be happening is she/he may not be monitered carefully by surgeon. Too tight of restriction has these effects. Plus the band is a tool. Is your friend following the rules? We all go through bouts of ups and downs. I have a sister with bypass...don't want her side effects she has experienced. I am in my green zone, eating properly, no vomiting, and losing weight with energy and happiness. Have your friend check with doctor if still sick like that. -
I had the most amazing glass of Elderberry wine from St. Katherine Vineyards in Palusade, Colorado. I don't feel a bit guilty it was delicious and one glass.

I've used Splenda and sugar free for quite awhile and do not experience any if those side effects. xylitol can do that to me though. Everyone has a different reaction to these things. Is stevia and Splenda the same?

Finally Back On The Wagon...er...treadmill
Skyvic replied to eyeononederland's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Oops hit send on phone too fast....3 weeks later I'm actually craving excercise including water aerobics, weights, circuit, bikes, sit ups on a ball, and just plain walking at the park 2-3 miles. It replaces the food thing in many ways. Kids are getting out to hang at park while I walk with my best friend. A life change indeed...wouldn't have done this a year ago!! -

I remember being in liquids, full liquids, and soft mushies for quite awhile...couple weeks at a time. You really want to make sure your body, incisions, and tummy heal. Good luck:)

Restriction Getting Worse? Judych
Skyvic replied to judych's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doc will know best. I had a fill in February, with kind of same issues. I pretty much ate soup, shakes, and slider foods. When I went in this week knowing I did not want another fill, my doctor said he wished I had called him with me filling this way. I guess I didn't realize it was not good and I thought I needed that type of restriction. Reality is... You want to take this journey in stride. I'm at 5.5cc and in green zone finally. However, it was a struggle in march and April. Now in may I feel like I can have a decent meal...down 17 pounds since February. 81 all together. -
I think the first month is always the roughest. You go through so many emotions, I had the blues that sense off loss. I agree that this is the month to heal your body, rest, take it slow and let your body adjust to your new stomach and the incisions have to heal as well. Get plenty of hydration. Take this time to look up recipes for lapband, high protein shake recipes, I didn't realize in the beginning, I thought I had to be losing the week I was out of surgery...the real weight loss begins a month to even the second year!!!! Hang in there it will all come together in the big picture!

Restriction Getting Worse? Judych
Skyvic replied to judych's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes call doctor it is not worth esophageal dilation or other dangers. We have to remember that this is a journey. Restriction does not make a successs just unhappy because we can't be normal. Doctor says the best thing is to eat three small meals a day following the rules. I'm afraid you need to consult with dic and in meantime high protein shakes and soft mushies. -
Call your doctor please. If you can do a couple more days with shakes and soup until you get a hold of doctor...but if you are vomiting or reflux or stuck feeling with pain it means you are filled to tight.
-
Google the cooking light recipe for eggplant Parmesan....truly one of the best things I can enjoy that feels like I'm eating meat lasagna!! Make sure you take skin off and cut 1/34 thick or even thinner.

Just remember the reason you don't want to drunk while eating...don't want the food to slide down fast and you font want to stretch the pouch. It was hard at first and I really had to concentrate on this. Just think when you go out to eat it will cost less ( order portion and ice water to have) I don't drink it but it is more a mental safety thing I guess.

Bread not an option...a few months back I tried some gluten free bread at Great Harvest Bread Company and I actually for it down in very small bites. But ultimately bread, white pasta, white rice and tough meets are not an option:)
-
Try kale chips I know this sounds crazy, but they r crunchy and taste good...google recipe.
-
Also, my doctor said that you don't necessarily have to have your band tighten every time you lose a good amount,..you could possibly stay at the same fill for months...even with weight loss. That is green zone!!!
-
Green zone is when you are not hungry between meals, good steady weight loss not necessarily fast but steady, and satisfied. You aren't having those slimy vomiting experiences...you feel somewhat normal as you follow rules of bite size and chewing.
-
You are right tighter is not better. My surgeon has educated me enough to know that too much restriction is a bad thing. I thank God that he listens to me, my nutritionist interviews me, and they are thorough so they don't overfill me. It does happen, and it's our job to listen to our bodies and I know this is tough. Amazing what we learn in hindsight.

Contact your doctor the last thing u need is to be uncomfortable. Good luck
