How Much Restriction Is Enough And What Are The Risks?
Skyvic replied to Maddy1's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow same feelings. In at 5.5 cc in 10 band but everyone is different. I don't know whether to get fill or not because it is hit or miss on how restricted I feel. Different times of day, hour, week, month. I'm down 82 pounds but at plateau and really exercising. I know a little restriction is ok but throwing up is not what doctor wants. With all the rules, we just have to make sure we have small bites, good chewing, eat slow. These I must work on. It's tricky and I question this all the time but love my band (12/10) I chose to take the slow route with many small gradual fills. Size 24 to an almost size 12:) -
Check your Iron levels and Protein intake. I work out at 8:30 pm 3-4 nights at gym or go for long walks same time or early morning. You might want to try GNC recovery Protein shakes, too. I always feel better once I get in routine of working out. Hang in there!

I think the heat may have some play in our bands among with hydration issues. Laing down also makes my band tighter. It's 98 degrees in western Colorado earlier today, I'm also ready to start my period. So you can only imagine that my band and body isn't feeling great. Today I has a cup of coffee, white chicken chili, three tortilla chips, and a small bowl of frozen yogurt. For dinner...I just don't feel like eating. I had a bite of gouda cheese and lots of crystal light...not a great menu today. Tomorrow I'll do Protein drink and a brisk walk really early....ugghhhhhh. I don't Luke this "dry" heat...still hot!

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee. My stomach does fine. Nutritionist says 1 cup fine and to add nonfat milk powdered or to add Protein drink as creamer....I still like the International Hershey's creamer (my downfall but I'm ok with this for now). If I feel that this is a stumbling block, then I will take it out of my daily routine. As it gets hotter outside, I'll probably get away from the coffee...I try to drink more Water too.

I did not take very many pics of myself. Lots of family trips without my body in them...maybe just my face only hiding behind my kids and husband. I to ally have a full body on Facebook as a friend pointed out the other day. But how could I have let myself get this far...and why. I am so scared to fail.

Does Everyone Get Stuck On The Same Foods?
Skyvic replied to lovex5's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think every one may have different sticks...I can't do any bread. I really get stuck on corn. Over mediu eggs won't work...poached will. Toasted bruschetta slowly fine. No yeasty or soft dough stuff. A cupcake eaten very slowly once in a while. Iceberg lettuce difficult, leafy lettuce goes down easier. Dry chicken yuck, drumstick dark meat fine. I need moist not dry meats. Filet mignon fine, rib eye not:( every day is different depends on time of day, how fast I eat, size of bites, and chews. -
Don't regret!!! I list more this second year than the first 267...now I'm 187! Don't give up you still have fill adjustments you have much time to take this journey before regretting.

Oh my gosh glad you posted!!! I have a dental cleaning at 1:00pm tomorrow...right after lunch...guess I'll go with a Protein shake!!!!

I loaded my favorite music and that seems to help me get through walking and stair climber. The excercise really tightens and tones, finally weight is dropping!
-
Monday-Water aerobics and walk 4 miles Tuesday-abs on excercise ball weights for waist widdle, arms and chest circuit, stair climber 20 min Wed-abs, circuit training legs, stair climber 20 min Thurs-Pilates, walk 4 miles Friday-Zumba or circuit shoulders, chest Sat- walk 4 miles or hike , opt swim Sun-walk 4 miles or abs and stair climb. Excercise definitely speeds the weight loss I am finally seeing the scales and sizes drop!!!!

It gets easier but you have to pace yourself and baby steps are okay!!!! It took me time before the weight came off and as the scale drops I'm more inspired to excercise now more than ever!!!!! It gets addictive in a way because food us not the focus in your head after getting banded. As you get fills, you really have to focus your energy on getting healthy.
-
I can only say that I was still sedentary the first year because I was still heavy. About the time I hit 203 from 267, I began to get the inspiration to go walking. Then I added one day of Water aerobics, then I joined a gym for three power workouts, when I saw the scale drop to 188...I realized I should have started much earlier. The one advice I can give. However, you will do it when you are ready. Good luck:)

I can't really eat sandwiches, wraps, dry chicken, and some meats or stringy cheese...or I will slime. I have a 5.5cc in 10cc band. I feel in green zone losing slowly (20 pounds since February) total 82 pounds. I wish I could eat breads but I think our band or atleast for me is a good signal not to. I've had those episodes on a bunless boca burger. I've learned some of these things the hard way plus chewing and smaller bites as well as slowing down.
-
Also want to add that I have a tough time eating before noon so I'll have a Protein shake or oatmeal or yogurt for Breakfast. And lunch us pretty light too. dinner is the most normal of my day.
-
I stuck to about a cup to 1 1/2 cups if food or palm of my hand...I do stick to Protein first, then veggies. Occasionally I will add fruit in, skip a veggie. But I also take "greens" (It Works Co.). I try to get Proteins from fish, chicken, pork, and some tender red meat. Also Beans. No bread, occasional whole grain crackers w/ Gouda cheese. I don't calorie count, but stop before I feel full, wait a bit, and usually that does it. I will have a snack before bed but usually I'm not hungry, so I drink calorie free beverage.

That sounds so fun!!!! I would never have thought of belly dancing 80 pounds earlier!

I'm in same situation...not losing and I have just about 30-40 pounds to go. I don't want to fill stuck, had been in green zone but creeping to yellow zone. So, I think a fill is due here in July soon. Again this will put me in a restriction I'm not sure I am ready for. But I want to lose too. The gym has helped but scale not moving. My clothes are looser. Size 24 to a 14 almost 12 on some. It's a tough decision cause I like that I can eat most of the time without stuck episodes.

(Gross) Took One Bite, Then Pb, Now Foaming For 20 Minutes?
Skyvic replied to jen043454's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My surgeon has me stick to full liquids for atleast three days...which actually jump starts sine weight loss plus keeps my stomach not irritated. -
I would love to add that I've been banded since 12/10...down 81 pounds but I am also in a plateau. Sure, I'm frustrated but I also think hey, I could have never lost this without my band...so think of this all in little baby steps. I am slowly coming out of the green zone and heading towards the yellow zone. I may need to get a fill, a small one. Possibly mid July. Am I ready for another fill, I'm not sure, I've been able to eat better but not losing this week. I am walking and working out. It's such a balance with this band...take the journey and hang in there we definitely have our struggles.
-
I wish we had an answer from a surgeon or other medical prodessiional on this issue. Would Alex know? It's wild why band us so restricted at various times from lying down and in morning to stress, etc.
-
Good luck! You are not a failure!!!! I think that we are all so different. For me the quantity eating helped me choose the lapband. I know my habits:( this second time around for you will be a great opportunity to use the tools, follow the rules, and succeed. You are going to do great!

Am I Crazy For Wanting Lap Band Surgery?
Skyvic replied to lrhodes46's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ummm yes. Ignore it! I look at my family and see that parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles all heavy some having bypass others lapband...health issues for those who didn't. Yoyo dieting. For the first tone in my life the band has helped me stay in control of my eating....no regrets and I don't care if anyone thought I was crazy. I did this for me and my family and life.
