  1. iggy' date=' trust me--I hear what you are saying...I had complications from surgery I had 3 years ago (was covered by insurance), and I stopped counting at around half a million dollars...I probably didn't clarify my meaning from that last post I made...I work for state government, and I've checked and know for sure that WLS is not covered and is specifically excluded...if I call with an inquiry about having surgery that is specifically covered by the plan, there is at least a 95% chance, they will tell me right up front that any complications as a result of the elective surgery will not be covered...now, if by the small chance of 5%, they actually say it could be covered depending on certain factors, I still won't have the answer I want for assurance, because I cannot anticipate what the factors would be...there is zero chance that they will tell me up front, pre-surgery that any complications will be covered...the downside is that if they tell me complications are not covered, and I unfortunately do have complications and try to make a claim, they will have record that they told me it was *not* covered...at least if I don't inquire, I can plead "ignorance" legitimately...am I prepared for a 500,000 hospital bill? absolutely not, and it would be financial ruin for me probably...should that risk of financial ruin impact my decision? I don't think so in my case, because I believe the chances of me living another five years even under my current health condition is pretty low...if there is some kind of supplemental insurance I can purchase up-front, I definitely will do that, even if it costs an extra 5,000...other than ruling out WLS altogether, I don't know what else I could do to prepare myself for a 500,000 or more hospital bill : ([/quote']

You & I work for the same place, if you get brave and call our insurance about this, let me know what they say. I did not call to ask them either before my surgery because I thought they'd put a note in my file, lol. Luckily I had an easy, complication free recovery.

  2. We weren't allowed back into our residents that night so we drove to my parents house in long beach. We just got back now. My place is ok there's just a smokey smell' date=' there were 20 apts destroyed though and I can't believe those people lost all their possessions because of a single car fire. Here's an article that I saw. However it wasn't contained at 10 pm we were there till one and it was still going.

I'm glad your place is ok. That must of been a scary experience.

  3. I was sleeved on Jan. 7 2013 and my weight stopped as soon as I added Protein shakes' date=' which was 1 week after surgery. I drink at least 64oz.of Water and get 80 grams of Protein per day. I also added walking to my routine. I lost 18lbs on pre-op diet and 14 lbs 1 week after surgery but now the scale has stopped. What gives?[/quote']

Your weight loss has not stopped forever. The Protein drinks did not stop your weight loss. You are experiencing the first dreaded stall. The scale will move, just continue with your fluids and Proteins.

I was too weak to get on my scale until week three, plus I had read about people gaining weight immediately after surgery, and I didn't want to see that. Lol.

  4. I didn't have to lose weight before surgery but I did have to quit smoking at least a month before. I just made 7 months post op and 8 months smoke free.

Is there a time limit about the smoking? Maybe wait closer to surgery to quit, and work on the 20lbs first. I don't know I'd I could've done both that far in advanced to surgery.

I used nicotine Patches and suckers to quit. And honestly I was so out of it, and in pain immediately post op that I never even thought about putting my patch on, so I've been without my patch since around the middle of June.

It's hard. I am 34 and have smoked since I was 16. I miss smoking more than food.

    Good luck!
