Things You Can Never Have Again With Sleeve :(
Break the soda addiction now. It will be SO much easier. I switched from coke/dr. pepper to Sprite/7 UP when I was diagnosed with a heart condition and wanted to not have the caffeine. Then I had my last soda about a month before my sleeve - at the movies with some popcorn. Do I miss it? Maybe a little. But not enough to try it anymore. I'm only 7 weeks out and have yet to find anything I can't really have. I stay away from things like pasta/rice/bread because they are just fillers without much nutrition. And I just don't have the room to fill my stomach up with foods like that. I did a 2 week preop liquid diet before surgery and that helped me get over my carb addiction. I really don't miss those anymore either. Try this to get off soda. I would make that goal #1 - because seriously, soda is nothing buy empty calories. Good luck to you! http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/28-day-national-soda-challenge

Vet Sleevers Question....about Feeling Full
Not sure. I'm 5.5 weeks out. All I can tell you is that my hunger and my feelings of fullness are different now than they were before surgery. I can tell when I need to eat (am "hungry"), and I eat what I think I can eat, and just go really slowly once I get to the end of the food. Most of the time I can't quite eat it all (and we are talking 1/3-1/2 cup of food total). The first couple of weeks, I would get a sharp pain in my left shoulder when I was getting full. THat eventually went away, and now I just feel restriction. I don't eat enough to make myself sick (I haven't thrown up since the day of my surgery). Eventually you will get to know the signs of fullness before pain sets in. Only once or twice have I eaten enough to make my stomach hurt.

Does Our B12 Have To Be Sublingual?
What about the liquid form of B-12 (not pills, it's literally a liquid).

Irregular Periods
Was sleeved 5 weeks ago. I had a normal period 2 weeks before surgery. I have very regular, somewhat heavy periods that last about 7 days, and am not on birth control. After surgery (1.5 weeks), my period starts. Very light for the first several days, then super heavy. It lasts 11 days. Then 10 days later, my period shows up again...again very light. It's day 6 of this weird light period. Are there some homeopathic herbs or something that can help my body stop freaking out? I really don't want to be on birth control again (DH is snipped). I'm due for my annual exam this month. It was hoping I could find a solution before then. It's so freaking annoying!

Smetimes I Just Want To Have Dinner!
I'm 5 weeks out tomorrow, and still in the soft foods phase (should be moving to regular foods this next week). I tried this for the first time tonight and it was AWESOME! Even my picky husband said it was awesome. And you can put whatever you like on it! We did cheese, a couple of pepperoni, spinach, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. I could only eat half of mine, and gave DH the rest. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2009/11/tortilla-pizza-time.html

Big Mistake!
I don't feel hungry or full like I did before surgery. I'm 5 weeks out and on soft foods. I try to eat slowly, and slow down even more when I feel like I've had enough. I don't feel "full" per se, but I begin to feel my stomach. I know about how much I can eat, and only put that on my plate/bowl. Depending on the food, it's about 1/3-1/2 cup of food.

Lifes Gotten Boring!
Something that's fun, gets you outdoors, and is exciting for the kids is geocaching. They have it everywhere. http://www.geocaching.com/

Protein Bars
I have a protein bar that is 180 cal, 4.5g fat, 17g total carbs (2g sugar), and 20g protein. That seems like a pretty good ratio to me. Hopefully it will taste good. It's the Pure Protein bars that someone on here recommended. Plus they seem small enough to actually eat in a sitting - versus the EAS bars that are HUGE and made a couple of meals.

Travel After Vsg
At 3 week post op, we took a weekend vacation and went to Sea World. I didn't ride the rides, but I walked and walked! We went slow, and I rested and tried to stay hydrated. It was tiring, but fun. We also went on a cave tour and that was 90 minutes of walking down 180 feet and around the bottom, and then back up 180 feet. That was quite tiring - we did that the 3rd day. I just took the foods I was allowed to have with me.

Protein Bars
I searched some, but didn't find a whole lot on this topic. I would like to keep some Protein bars around - they are easy to take on the go for errand running, etc. Easier to eat than Protein shakes - which I happen to like - but they take forever for me to get one down because of the volume. Anyone suggest some good tasting, good for you Protein Bars? So far Ive only tried the EAS carb control one (chocolate Peanut Butter crisp) and it was okay. Im hoping something is out there that tastes a little better. This one has: 240 cal, 8g fat, 27g carbs (6g fiber), 1g sugar, 17g sugar alcohols, and 17g protein. This isn't something I want to eat daily - just something to have on hand on the days I run errands and know I will be out and about when snack time hits. I will be a month out on Monday! Woo-hoo! Thanks for any suggestions!

For Real
I made pot roast with onions and red potatoes and really pureed it - with my immersion blender. I put in some meat, and 1-2 potatoes to help get it creamier, and some of the juice. Looked pretty gross, but tasted REALLY good - like pot roast! And that's heaven after weeks of liquid only!

Aetna - May Cover
Be glad your insurance pays. I had Aetna when I was working, and my plan covered bariatric surgery. Then I quit to be a stay at home mom 2 years ago, and my husband also has Aetna. But his company refuses to pay for bariatric surgeries. So same insurance, different coverages. So I ended up being self pay. So $500 and a few months is way better than being out the $12,000 I paid. Could have gone to Mexico I suppose, but wanted to do it stateside. If there's one thing this surgery will teach you (before and after!)...it's PATIENCE!! Good Luck!

Whats Your Favorite Shake?
So far I'm liking the Isopure chocolate powder the best. Lactose and aspartame free, 1g fat, 3g carbs, 2g Fiber, 0g sugars, and 50g Protein. It's 220 calories, but I don't get enough calories in a day anyway yet (struggling with that), so this helps. I've tried Muscle milk, EAS Myoplex, Chike, and Jay Robb protein premade shakes/powders.

Where Did It Go?
Well, the stomach is pliable, and they just pull it out. Once cut, it's no longer a "ball", but more of like a long sock. So it comes out pretty easily out of the incision. As far as what they do with it - they probably look it over for anything susupicious (just to be sure), then chunk it in the trashcan. They may weigh it first.

Sleevers Who Were Prone To Motion Sickness Before Surgery
I have had bad motion sickness whenever I'm in a car all my life, yet boats and plane are fine. I had the patch as well, and the first 24 hours for me were brutal. I couldn't keep down ice chips. I also had zofran and phenergan IV on board, but they didn't help me much. The nausea would be sudden and severe. I usually get the saliva in the mouth about 20 seconds before throwing up....not after surgery. I would be fine, then try an ice chip or 2, then immediately have severe nausea and immediately vomit. I had severe swelling and edema in my sleeve that wouldn't allow anything to pass thru. Once they saw that (during my leak test right after urgery), they gave my a diuretic and a steroid and in 24 hours I was much much better. Now at 3 weeks out I haven't had nausea since.
