  1. I survived the 90 days of nutrition visits and now just waiting to hear any day if my insurance carrier approved the surgery. I am fairly confident they will, but the waiting...

    My Opinion For Pre-Opers

I am doing the same thing and so glad I did. It has given me a chance to get ready mentally. The first couple of days were really hard, but it was my choice and I could have a bit to eat if I really needed it to chase away the hungrys. I am ready mentally and physically and I would recommend doing that to everyone. Not to mention the benefit of losing a few extra pounds, which is ALWAYS a good thing, right Martha?!

    Sleeve vs. Gastric Bypass

I have personal knowledge of this to be true as well. The first surgeon I saw tried to do the same thing to me and I walked out of his office so scared that it took me a year to even think about considering surgery again. I had a sweet doctor at work approach me and had a very frank talk with me about the sleeve. I am confident I am making the right decision and am very excited to be nearing the end of the process necessary to be approved by my insurance carrier. The thought of bringing this nearly life long misery to and end has me excited beyond words! Don't let anyone talk you into something that you are not 100% ready or willing to do. I am so glad I didn't.

    July Sleevers

That would be me! I don't have a date yet, but I am pretty sure it will be July. We are going to do awesome! I try to keep my goals realistic and right now am just focusing on the first 100. At the same time I have so much excitement about the things I will be able to do at that point, that I practically have happy feet!!

    Humiliated.......

You are not alone. I have had so many experiences just like yours. God sent you a sweet angel to sit with you. That is so awesome how you were treated on the way home. It is easy for me to say don't be humiliated, lots of people have been there, but I know from experience it doesn't matter. Soon we will be the sympathetic sweet angels, tiny enough to help someone in the seat next to us. Good luck! You are gonna do great!
  6. I am so sorry this happen to you. My husband needs to have this surgery also because he is is Type 2 and it is uncontrolled. I asked him not to tell and he is so good at keeping secrets. That used to bother me that he would not tell me stuff but now that it is me that doesnt want it told, I love him so much for it. He is waiting to see how I do to decide if he will do it. I think he is a little scared about how it will change me. You know the whole you skinny and I not thing. He just needs to coming along with me. Problem solved. Good luck MGM! You are going to do great. Surround yourself with support and stay positive.

    Magic Date July 25

I have not been sleeved yet but I have had several laproscopic surgeries so from personal experience with surgeries and everything I have read that getting sleeved, you might want to wait until after the party. That is cutting it really close. You probably want to be able to be an important part of the party and you may not feel up to it that soon. Congratulations on getting approved! You are going to do great!
  8. If I am happy, you are there, If I am scared, you are there. If I failed, you are there. If I am feeling alone, yep, you are there. I feel like I have gained hundreds of new friends who all know exactly what I am going through and it is PRICELESS! I just want to tell you all that I am thinking of you this glorious Texas Sunday morning and I want you to know how much I appreciate you!
  9. I don't have a date yet, but I am really close. I have one more nutrition visit, only because my insurance changed the rules. Regardless, I find that I have such a spring in my step to know that I am getting help. The life line is there, I have a death grip on it and I am hanging out waiting to be pulled in. Reading as much as I can, gaining new friends and just excited as I can be. I feel like I did as a kid, waiting for camp to roll around. My bag was packed to weeks in advance and I was ready to go! I am ready to go and this process is so exciting that I can't wait until I have that spring in my step -- literally!
  10. You could either let your surgeon do it, by asking them to send a report, OR the next time you go to your doc and if they ask if you have had any surgeries, like they are supposed to, then tell them. If they don't ask but want to know how you lost the weight, tell them portion control, because after all, that is ultimately what it is, a tool to give you portion control.

    Feeling No Support

You are so right!!! I am purposely only telling those who either need to know, like my boss and those who will be supportive. I am getting close to approval so I am starting to tell people who would be really hurt to think that I didn't care enough about them to tell them something so important, like my oldest brother. He asked me if I was scared. Of course, I am scared but I am more scared of what will happen if I don't do something. I have been at least 100 pounds overweight for 30 years! 30 years!! I have lost as much as 130 pounds only to gain it right back and then some so now I am 200 pounds overweight! I got to the point that I said I was never dieting again. I was only hurting myself. I am very excited and feel surrounded with loving and supportive people... except my PCP but that is on another post. Do what is best for you and be confident that this will change your life for the good, forever!
  12. Hellonurse, the other part of me says my doc doesn't deserve to see my success. She would probably take credit for it. I have until November until I am suppose to return, so I have time to decide... unless I get sick. The good news is that I work in a hospital so if I do get sick I am surrounded by an army of (very supportive) docs that I can turn to.
  13. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I am so glad I posted this, you all helped me so much. You guys are great!

    Heprin Shots

Thank you for posting about this ladies. I was told I will need to take Heprin shots pre-op and the closer I get, the more this scares me. I am sure a lot of that has to do with the fact that my mom passed away in 2010 from a pulmonary embolism. I know I am doing the right thing but every day brings new fear, concern or excitement.
  15. I will be having my surgery at the hospital where I work in Dallas. I am blessed to have very good insurance. Our hospital has been awarded the Bariatric Center of Excellence award and the surgery suites are gorgeous so I very excited.

    Sonic....

It's made with diet Sprite. My friend and I are wondering if we could wait till the soda goes flat then drink it. I personally am not willing to take the chance. I do have to admit though it does sound tempting.

    Short People Success Stories?

Short people unite! I am barely 5' tall and can relate to what you are feeling. I hope to be sleeved early July so I don't have a success story.... yet, I was just excited to see fellow shorties. Congrats on the 40 pounds!
  18. August 23rd is my birthday! What a great day for a new life. I don't have a date yet but I am hoping for around the 4th of July. MGM, I'll be thinking about you. Where are you having your surgery?

    Dallas June Sleevers?

I got the news today that I won't have surgery until July. My insurance requires a full 90 days with the nutritionist so instead of today being my last visit, I have one more at the end of June. I am a tad bummed but then again in the grand scheme of things it is only a couple of more weeks, so it's cool. Everything happens for a reason.
  20. Well, my 3rd visit with the nutritionist went well, done a few pounds. I did get the news that I have to have a full 90 days of nutritionist visits, so looks like surgery won't be until early July. I am cool with it though. This whole process is in God's hands and I am along for the ride and loving it!!

    Dallas June Sleevers?

I live in Fort Worth, but work in Dallas at Doctors Hospital. I don't have a date yet but I am thinking it will be mid to late June. Yeah us!! My surgeon is/will be Todd McCarty. Nice to meet you all.

    Liquid Diet Death

I look at it this way. If I lose this weight I increase my chances of being around to enjoy my forgetfulness and all the other things that come with old age. I will take it and be glad!
  23. I have my 3rd appointment with the nutritionist on Tuesday. I thought this would be my last appointment before my insurance approval. Turns out I have to wait until mid June until my file can be reviewed for approval. I am actually ok with this. I went to GNC today and bought a meal replacement. I am ready to get the ball rolling, so who says I have to wait for the "date". Getting excited, plus those I have told are extremely supportive.
