I can eat 3 Popsicles (sugar free) in one sitting?
desert19 replied to Kellylynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely, eating a blue raspberry one right now -
This life is your journey, no one else's. We are losing weight so we can have a normal life. We are learning to indulge just a little, every once in a while. 1/2 an ice cream bar is probably a victory for you. In the past you probably would have eaten a lot more than that. Continue your weight loss journey knowing that you will succeed because it looks to me like you are doing a great job.

Congratulations on your surgery. You have taken a great first step that will change your life. Wishing you a speedy recovery

I put a bunch of my old clothes in our garage sale, and this lady asked who all these big size clothes belonged to because they couldn't belong to me because I was so small :D -
Congratulations!!! I have found the trickiest part about maintenance is changing the mindset from losing to staying the same. Not quite as easy as I thought it would be.

"Eating-too-fast syndrome".... anyone else?
desert19 replied to racoon_439's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so bad at this, as I was reminded at dinnertime. Stomachache............ -
Plan things for lunch and snacks that are easy and not messy. My favorite lunches are deli turkey and a slice of low fat cheese rolled up, greek yogurt or my very favorite is to take tuna, feta cheese and non-fat miracle whip and mix them together to taste. It makes 2 lunches. Easy snacks are string cheese or nuts (my favorite is pistachios). Just take time to prepare and plan the night before so you are ready to just grab it in the morning amd go.

I fit into my mother's shirt. My whole life my mother has been this petite woman (she still is). I never could share clothes with my mom or sister, so to fit into her shirt (a 6 petite) was like reaching the top of a mountain after a long, hard climb. It was so awesome

The unknown is scary. Acknowledge that fact, and realize the sleeve itself will be only a tool. You need to do the hard work to be successful. It may be helpful to have a few sessions with a counselor or psychologist who can give you some feedback on why you are sabotaging yourself. I had some couseling before my surgery, and it was the best thing I did. -
Stop asking me questions!
desert19 replied to spoiledbratt97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out saying I was just eating healthier, or doing Atkins or stuff like that. I finally decided to own up to having weight loss surgery whenever anyone asked. The responses I have gotten have all been 100% supportive. I have several people at work that are really interested in the procedure now and come to me with questions, etc. It is a personal choice what you reveal, so do whatever you feel is right for you. -
Clothes - clothes and more clothes

Isn't it just the greatest feeling? I have become such a shopaholic for clothes now that it is so fun to have cute clothes fit. To me it is one of the best NSV there is. -

Congratulations!! What a journey you have had. Enjoy doing all those fun things now. My son wants me to go jump out of an airplane with him. -
I was a little scared of the surgery, but mostly scared of failing. I had failed everything else I had tried, why would this be any different? But it is different. You are getting a powerful tool to help you. You can do it. And you know what? All the changes are so worth it in the end when you walk into a regular size womens clothing department, and that really cute thing that caught your eye ends up fitting!!!

Weight gain and the sleeve ! Honesty Please
desert19 replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am over a year out. I have not fallen off the wagon and gained back a lot of weight. I will have a pound or two, but stay on track and get it back off. I still definately have a limit as to how much food I can eat at one time. If I go even one bite beyond it, I get sick, so I pay attention. -

2 days post-op, stomach grumbling... is it a issue?
desert19 replied to Just_Kelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you are fine if it is just noises you are hearing. After my surgery, my stomach became the source of entertainment at dinner time with all it's noises, growls and gurgles. It has gotten a little better as time has gone on, but it is still vocal. I have no problem with the trade off of having a noisy stomach but being able to eat less and lose weight. -
Actually, this is a big deal for us ladies! I remember the first time I realized I was able to comfortably shave my legs, it was awesome!

How long did you research before you booked surgery
desert19 replied to JosieMac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to my first seminar over 2 years before I had surgery. I decided after that seminar that if I did everything they said you had to do after surgery such as exercise, eat right, etc., then I could lose the weight and not have surgery. WRONG!! Then 4 months prior to my surgery I went to another seminar and this time the sleeve was being offered and I jumped at it. I was not going to wait 6 months to negotiate the insurance requirements so I went the self-pay route. I did do a lot of online research prior to my surgery and it just reinforced my decision to get the sleeve. -
So afraid I am not going to be successful and do this right......
desert19 replied to dixiejuju's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We have all felt that way. Follow your eating plan outlined by your dr and/or nutritionist. You will learn what works the best for you as you gain a little experience with this. It is a whole new way of life and you don't wake up from surgery knowing exactly what you need to do. I eventually learned what foods I lost weight best with, and those I didn't. You will be successful, keep telling yourself that, you can do it.
