    Pickle juice

It's just a substitute of eating a dill pickle. I've had it for years. Yum. Just looking to have some now but not sure how long out to wait.
  4. I sent a box through the normal postal service about a year ago. I believe it was about $15-20. Probably had about 20 items. There was no tracking and I didn't request any specific timeframe.

    Hospital Bag-What to take?!

As little as possible. They gave me clean gowns each day and this was easier to deal with than my own pjs due to the iv. Take lip balm, clean undies and a few toiletries that you think you will need. Other than that, everything that I had in my bag was not needed.
  6. Isopure tastes pretty good to me and the protein has helped me feel better. I tried the milk based protein at first but I couldn't keep it down.
  7. I so hear what you are saying! My surgery was a week before you! I had to be re-admitted on Sunday and was released this past Tuesday for dehydration. I was having terrible nauseousness and couldn't keep anything down. Yesterday I was able to get some Protein in with the Isopure drinks. Wow, getting the protein in really helped me to start feeling better. Loving that every day is getting better and better! Take care!

    Using the Scale for Accountability

Absolutely, I weigh every single day. In the past, when I ignored the scale, that is when I got fatter and fatter. I've got to be held accountable. This may not work for everyone but this is definitely for me.

    Going to miss the most

I was a big diet coke addict. It's been over 3 weeks since I've had one (when pre-op started). I didn't start missing until yesterday when they kept showing a diet Pepsi commercial every time I turned around! Wasn't into diet Pepsi but oh my! I'm like the poster from Florida with the high temperatures. I grew up in MS and LA. We had to have something cool. Had it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and anytime in between! Definitely what I will miss the most!

    Getting my hair did!

Totally understand that feeling. Double chin and face looks like it will pop if I push a pin it because it looks so bloated! I can't wait to experience your feeling!
  15. So sorry to hear of your husband's trouble. I am in a similar situation. Surgery on 4/10 and then re-admitted on Sunday. Had iv and tests. All ok. Discharged yesterday. Still attempting to get liquids in but I am still having problems. Lots still coming back up. Hopefully, our stomach swelling will go down soon and we can get past this.

    Can you always feel gas

Thanks on the advice of the warmer temp items. Did u still throw up but not as much or did it go away?
  18. Ok,ok,.... I know it's important to walk, walk, walk. I truly thought it was because I woud feel a lot of gas in my stomach or shoulder. I don't have pain like that. However, I do have problems with getting liquids to stay down. Does that mean that there is gas in my stomach pushing it back up and I just don't realize that its gas. If this is true, recommendations on how to walk.... Before I try to get liquids in? After? Both? How long? What's going to help me the most getting my liquids to stay down?

    Can you always feel gas

Good advice. Thanks. I tried to eat a Popsicle very slowly- probably about 15-20 minutes. I wasn't walking in between bites. I'll try that.
  21. So sorry to hear this. I know this sounds scary but you are getting great care! Did you get a respiratory plastic machine in the hospital to do breathing treatments. They told me it was to prevent pneumonia but never said anything about blood clots. I haven done mine today. Going to look for that little rascal now. Hope you feel better!
  22. Hey guys, had surger on 4/10. Had trouble getting liquids in and throwing up. I was feeling very weak. Went to the ER on Sunday and they admitted me and I was just released today. Got some IVs in me. Still have trouble with throwing up some. Medicine never helped with that. The medicine always comes back up. I have found that warm tea helps to settle my stomach. I can't progress to the full liquids yet. Oh well, at least I am feeling somewhat better. I just want to make sure the throwing up stops!

    back to hospital!

So sorry that you are going through this. My thoughts will be with you!
  24. So, I have been denied twice and my appeal was just denied by UHC! My BMI is about 38 and I was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2011. Insurance is stating that I would have to have the co-morbidity for 5 years in addition to the 5 years of weight history since I am below a BMI of 40. I have struggled with weight my entire life. I am 49 years old and I don't see this changing. I've lost weight several times over the years just to regain it, plus more! My parents both died in their mid 60's. both had high blood pressure and were overweight probably about the same as me as far as BMI. So, my question is..... Looking back at what you achieved, would you have gone through this having to pay yourself? I am not comfortable at this point going to Mexico so I will be checking with my doctor to see what he will charge me with no assistance from insurance. I am guessing around $20k. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Whats the hardest part for you?!

Nana, can u tell me more about your hot flashes? I'm on day 4 and I've been going through some type of hot flash/nausea spells. They occur right before its time to take pain medication. The experience lasts about 10-15 minutes while the medicine gets in my system. I have to turn off every thing and lay still with my eyes closed. I put a fan on me to help. Sometimes, i get a cool cloth for my face. Curious what experience you had? Is it still happening? Anything that you found that helped?
