    May 2007 Banders

Sjimimi, glad things are going so well for you. Like everyone is saying, each day gets better. Vikki, thanks for the nice words, it's always nice to hear from someone who's been there!! Talked to my surgeon today and I'm happy to say that my being so extremely tired is "normal". I was really getting worried as I would break into a sweat if I was up and about for long. I was banded on the 10th and on a liquid diet for 10 days pre op, and supposed to be on a liquid diet for two weeks post op. He said I was weak and tired because of the fast weight loss (21 lbs since 5/01); and said to add scrambled eggs and oatmeal to my diet. YAY!!! Never thought I would be so excited. He also said I could start my chewable vitamins early (supposed to be next week). It was nice to hear it from you all that I was feeling normal, but just hearing it from the doc makes me really relax now. Hope everyone has a nice weekend and hope the weather is better where you are (pouring and cold here). Cindy

Mommytokk, I read somewhere for a mushy to try a little mashed potato and gravy. Obviously just for the healing factor and not the diet but I bet that would be tolerated fairly well. I'm not there yet, as I have two weeks of liquids post op. Mannamay, is it possible you have a caffeine headache? I usually drink a coffee every day and keep getting headaches also, as I am not having coffee. I made a cup of salada tea last night and that seemed to help me. I guess I should just try to not drink coffee anymore since I am halfway there now anyway!! Hope the headaches resolve for you. Have you called your doctor yet? Good luck everyone, and yes, it does get better each day. I guess it was a little slower coming to me compared to some but I'll take it!! Cindy

Hi everyone. It's been awhile and I wanted to get caught up with everyone. Wow, it took a long time!! Everyone seems to be doing so great, and here I am feeling sorry for myself. I just want to feel normal again. I usually have a high tolerance for pain, and heal quickly. I'm wondering if the two weeks pre-op of just liquids and now being on just liquids could keep me so tired. Surgery was May 10 so thought I would feel a lot more perky now. I tried going for a walk today but it was VERY short. I felt exhausted. Do you think more of the protein drinks will help with the tired/lack of energy? Do you think this is normal?:help: . Thanks for listening. Cindy
  6. Oh my gosh Kitty, I'm right there with you. I had my surgery the 10th and I'm sitting here thinking "I did this to myself"? My discomfort is a little different, I don't have that bulge that feels like falling out, I have the burp feeling of pressure that is uncomfortable, the right shoulder pain, and overall discomfort of the stomac. I was wondering the same thing about returning to work on Monday. My surgery was last Thursday (today is day 4), and I'm scheduled to go back to work Monday. As of this moment, it doesn't seem likely. I really thought I would rebound a lot faster, as I have a high tolerance for pain and was up walking hours after the surgery. I hope it gets better soon. Good luck to you, too Cindy

    Massachusetts Bandsters Chat

Hey Metalband. I was banded last Thursday at Norwood Hospital by Dr. Adam Glasgow. Good luck to everyone. PS my tummy is making weird noises, how embarassing. I know it is probably gas (cuz I'm not hungry), but I wish it were a lot quieter! Cindy

ok. I have a question. I was just banded last Thursday, and my stomac is making the WEIRDEST noises. I mean, I know it must be gas, but my goodness. How embarassing. When do the loud noises subside? Please say they do, or I will forever hide in my room at work!! Cindy

Hi Maureen, I was banded at Norwood Hospital by Dr. Adam Glasgow on Thursday 5/10. So far, so good. I was walking around several hours after surgery. They ended up keeping me for two nights because they thought it looked "funky". So after my second barium swallow, I went for a catscan and everything is a ok! I say better safe than sorry. I wouldn't want to have to go back in a week, or month to have another surgery! Good luck everyone. Glad to be on the "bandwagon". Cindy

Hi Ragdoll. I see you. Happens to me, too. I just think there are so many of us that when you finish reading some of the posts, it seems like I've forgotten to write to one I had meant to. Sorry, it's def not intentional. Cindy

I brought a t shirt and a comfy pair of light weight sweat pants to wear home. I wasn't sure how my stomac would be feeling, or how bloated, so that's what I chose. Now that I'm home today, I just threw on a comfy pair of pajama pants and t shirt to just hang around the house. I took this whole week off to get used to things. So far, so good, two days post op. Hope that helps you with what to wear. Good luck. Cindy

Thanks for the input. I just had my surgery Thursday an just got home today (Saturday). The surgeon put my port on my lower right side. The surgery went great. In the OR at 7:30, in recovery at 9:20. Dr. said things went great, that is until the barium swallow the next morning. The surgeon said something looked funky. Now I don't know about you, but when I heard that, it didn't sound so good. They wanted to keep me for another night, then do barium swallow again the next morning (as if it didn't taste bad enough the first time around)! Well, they did the bs and said it still looked funky, so off I went to cat scan. The radiologist and my surgeon said it looks fine. I guess what was happening was the barium went through ok, but then went up and around to the stomac which was stitched to the band. It then went down the correct way. He just wanted to make absolutely sure that it would be ok. That's fine with me, better safe than sorry. I would hate to be a week or month out and have to repeat the surgery. Other than that, everything went fine. I started walking the hospital hallways several hours after surgery, to try to stall off the imminent gas. Gotta tell ya, it did arrive in my right shoulder. It was also sore to take a deep breath at times because of the gas under the diaphram. Nothing that couldn't be tolerated, however. Well, now I'm going to continue readying the entries for the past two days to catch up. Good luck everyone. It's awesome finally making it to the other side. And PS, I now have another two weeks of liquid diet until I see my surgeon again. Gotta love that broth!! Cindy

Cfred are you as excited as me? Tomorrow's our day. Good luck to you (not that you'll need it)! Woo Hoo!!! I'm too excited to go to bed, but should. Have to be at the hospital tomorrow am at 5:30 for a 7:30 a.m. surgery. They're keeping me overnight also. A barium swallow the next morning, then home it is! Night all. Good luck everyone that's scheduled in the next few days. I'll write when I can. Cindy

Keiko you are correct. It is so nice of those bandsters before us to take the time so soon after surgery to give us the feedback to ease our minds. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. It seems like mostly everyone has had the gas pains and suggested that we walk and take gas x. Thanks for the info. Have all of you had your port on the left side? My friend just had hers done a month ago, but hers is centrally located. Just curious if it has to do with presurgery weight, height, or just doctor preference. Cindy

Good luck with all your upcoming tests. The time will go quickly. Well, today is the end of Day 9 of the 10 day liquid pre-op diet. I made it without cheating so far (just complaining a little now and then, but, oh well!)! Surgery is day after tomorrow, I'm so excited.. YAY!!! I can't believe how many people we have in May. Isn't it awesome? Good luck tomorrow everyone. I'll be saying a prayer for you.
  16. End of Day 9 of the 10 day all liquid pre-op diet!! YAY!! Lap band surgery is the day after tomorrow. I'm SO excited. Thanks for listening. Cindy
  17. Krystal, You're doing awesome. I'm so proud of you for not giving up. We know it's hard, that's why we're all here. So keep up the great work, and keep letting us share this journey together with you. Cindy

  19. Hey, we're both to be banded the same day, 5/10. Can't wait, it is just 3 days away!! What I would give for a plain head of lettuce right now. I had a nightmare last night that I had a delicious filet mignon, I could even smell it. Sick, ha? Thank goodness for better than bouillion. Gotta run. Good luck. Cindy

Oh dear, talk about a nightmare!! Last night I dreamed I ate a filet mignon. I could even smell it. I guess Day 8 of just liquids got to me! Even a plain head of lettuce sounds appealing. How scary. It is MUCH better now, but still!

Kaylali, Funny you should ask, I asked the same question. I was told a johnny...JUST a johnny. Don't know why, but I figure, they're only seeing what they need to see, the rest, I'm told, is covered. Besides, I guess if I'm asleep, I really don't care. Cindy

Wenjea You're doing great, hang in there. It is true that after the 3rd day it gets better (I am on Day 6). Don't get me wrong, I am hungry quite a bit and also tempted, but the strong desire to succeed is winning out! Better than Boullion is my salvation. I never thought I'd hear myself say that I look forward to having chicken broth. It is very good, thank goodness. I've been out of town at my daugher's college since Thursday (she was in a dance show and it was awesome), so there have been quite a few pages to catch up on on this site. Sounds like the first week of bandsters are doing great, good for you. I've been thinking and praying for you all. You must be so proud of yourselves to have made it to bandland!! Thanks so much for all of your updates, and so soon, too! Good luck tomorrow everyone. I just know it will be great for you. Cindy
