    Almost Here...

I went to my NUT appointment today and was quite surprised to hear that I shouldn't be having the protein powder as much as I am. I have a total of 2 scoops of Unjury per day which = 40 grams of protein. She said that I can have one scoop per day only and that the rest of my protein needs to come from my foods......wonder how much protein I am getting with 6 tablespoons of food per day LOL. Here I was worried that I wasn't getting enough! hmmm! She said that it may be the reason that I haven't had another BM in 3 days, she said that protein is hard to digest and hard on the kidneys. She also told me that I need to balance my food and to take in more carbs....again lol...thought carbs were bad! Oh well, learning as I go. I did get my list of supplements today...B-Complex, B-12, Vitamin D3, Calcium Citrate. Shrimp sounds delicious! Today I am having overcooked mac & cheese with some smoked salmon....liking this

    Struggling With Doubts

Lizzy...it's perfectly ok for you to feel what you feel right now, you have huge changes coming up and sometimes it's easier not to change anything, but you would regret it in the end. Be selfish and continue on...for you and your health. I know people that had WLS years ago and some of the biggest regrets they had was they wished they had done it sooner....don't wait! I am only 2 weeks out from my surgery and the hardest part for me was the pre-op diet....since my body was "detoxing" it made me a bit depressed to not be able to eat and I felt I didn't have an "outlet". Push through, have your surgery and it gets easier. The pre-op diet made me second guess having the surgery because I thought "will it always be like this...hungry but can't eat anything"...the answer is no! The pre-op is so hard because we still have our full stretched out stomach without the option to eat...but afterwards you will find it easier because we don't have that stretched out stomach and just a tiny bit of even a protein shake makes you feel like you've just eaten a huge meal. It's awesome Lizzy and well worth it! For me, what you are going thru is the hardest part. God Bless!!

Wow Kellie....talk about an amazing woman!! I don't know if I would have your strength to carry on and do something for yourself while still going thru everything else. Thank God your children made it! With a mother like you, the rest will work itself out in time. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

Hi Ladies, Sheila- that hot dog did sound delicious, so thank you for posting your experience so I know it's not worth it I am finding that chicken salad and egg salad so far go down better than most. I tried some scrambled egg last night with a bit of cheese on it and the egg just didn't agree with me. Nothing came up thank goodness, but I felt yucky for a bit. I'm thankful that my work week is over and went down without any problems......3 days off now and meeting with my NUT this morning which means a 50 mile drive each way Joni- I'm with you, i can't eat Fage...it's too sour for me, but I do like the sounds of the recipes that notime posted (thank you notime) I made the standard chocolate Unjury protein powder with banana/skim milk/ice and love that one oh and thanks Joni for earlier on when you mentioned vanilla Unjury and orange cystal light...Awesome! I appreciate you ladies and look forward to coming on here and reading the posts. By the way, the chicken of the sea smoked salmon in the pouch that has a very small piece of salmon in it?? 21 grams of protein!!!

Well last night's shift was a bit easier than the first one so I am very thankful for that. It wasn't nearly as uncomfortable! One more night and then I am off for 3 days....looking forward to that. So, I read somewhere about grilling a portabello mushroom and throwing it into a blender with a can of cream of mushroom soup...that sounded so good and I think I am gonna try it my next day off. Also, you should check out Eggface's Ricotta Bake,,,it totally falls into our squishy mushy pureed kinda diet. Will look it up and post it for you all....Good Night or Good Morning but I am going to sleep!

    Ramekin With Ricotta Recipe

Hi Southerngirl...I hope this is what you are talking about 8 oz of Ricotta cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 large Egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese Mix Ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave. This one is yummy... It's from Theworldaccordingtoeggface.com

Made it thru my first 12 hour shift back to work and everything went well except it kinda sucked to have to sit upright for that long....felt like my fat was squishing up into my stomach which was a bit uncomfortable, but I was able to take some small breaks and enjoy the recliner which helped. Can I get another reminder as to how you are all managing to get your protein in....I will be trying that Vanilla Unjury with Orange Crystal Light...that sounds wonderful and I already have the Unjury. I just get so full so fast that it's hard for me to get it all in. Also I am currently eating egg salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, applesauce and mashed potatoes. Getting a bit bored with it and still have 1 1/2 weeks of it to go....what are you all eating? Take care and will talk to you soon!

I too was told that I could swallow my pills whole. Two of my pills are fairly large too (Omeprazole capsule & Celebrex caplet) I think Joni is absolutely right that it's surgeons choice! Glad to see you're back Sheila Bless your heart for doing your recovery with a 4 yr old!! I go back to work tonight so am a bit nervous...but what better job to be at than a hospital ER! I went onto Eggface and am so looking forward to when I can have cucumbers....she has amazing ideas for cucumber sandwiches!

I am really enjoying my tablespoon of egg salad and tablespoon of cottage cheese today. It's amazing how fast it fills me up..love it! I think the reason they are allowing pasta is because it's a whole wheat and you would probably need to really overcook it...to the squishy point. I bought a box of Annie's organic whole wheat shells with white cheese sauce and surprisingly it has like 10 grams of protein per serving (even though there's no way I could get in a whole serving) I thought I could make that someday and add some tuna to it and get a decent amount of protein. I remember my surgeon telling me that nothing is "off limits" it's just that I need to find healthy alternatives to old favorites and if I just have to have an old favorite...have just a little bit, that it's all about portions and exercise and that the sleeve will make the portion part much easier! Have a great day!

Speaking of nap....that is what I am planning on doing now. I need to get my sleep pattern back to being up all night because I was cleared by my surgeon to return to work Thursday evening. I work 7p-7a in the ER as a secretary and now I'm used to sleeping like normal people....really gotta change that! Finally had my first BM today too, was getting a bit nervous that it had been since the 22nd, but all is well once again Kellie, I totally understand about that delicious egg. I had a very small farm fresh soft poached egg this morning and it was amazing! For lunch I had 1 T. applesauce & 1 T. cottage cheese, for Dinner 1 T. mashed potatoes and 1 T. tuna. At lunchtime I intended on trying 2T cottage cheese with that applesauce but I got full, so stopped...Love it! Gonna check out eggface, I could use some new recipes. Great hearing how you are all doing! Kellie...here are some of the allowances for my Phase 2 of the post op diet...called "Soft, Moist, Mushy" Cream of Wheat Eggs mashed potatoes (white or sweet) applesauce canned tuna or chicken (chew chew chew to make mushy) yogurt pudding overcooked whole wheat pasta peanut butter cottage cheese (can add a touch of sugar free jelly to it...mmmmm) smashed up (cooked) veggies like broccoli, peas, grean beans Hope this helps

I am soo happy for you notime! I get to start soft, moist, mushy foods tomorrow and am excited & nervous. To continue getting in 60 grams of protein, are you still doing protein shakes in addition to the food? Thanks for posting your great news....you're an inspiration

    Going Back To Work

I was sleeved on 4/23/12 and I should be going back to work 5/3/12. I work in an ER as the unit secretary so I don't have a ton of bending & twisting to do. I work with fantastic people and they all know what I have had done and I'm more than sure they would give me a hand if I need it. You say you're an EMT....then wouldn't that require lifting & patients?? If so, then I think that is too soon, but go by what your surgeon tells you..Good Luck!
