  1. I have told my mum, my children and my best friend. I haven't always been obese so I feel like a failure resorting to surgery. I have decided that I am going to tell people if they ask that I had a hernia repair (I had my gall bladder out a number of years ago). The people close to me have been really supportive of my decision. My surgery is a week and a half away so very close now and I am going to see the dietician of Monday to find out about the food aspect after I have had the surgery. This surgery is all about US so if you choose to tell or not to tell that is ok because really it is no one's beeswax!!
  2. Congratulations to all of us who have been sleeved or yet to have our operations!!! My surgery is in 2 weeks and I am also going up and down but I'm mostly up and think of the things that will give me pleasure again such as exercising, shopping for clothes and wearing jeans. I can't wait!! I am feeling excited about never having to "diet" again - think of all the time and money we will have for other things!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

I'm booked for sleeve surgery on 30th May and have just found out that APRA have approved the early release of some of my superannuation funds!!! Yippee!! I am so happy because this was all I was waiting on. I have private health insurance so I don't need that much but now I have the go ahead - very excited and scared. It was Mother's Day here yesterday and I didn't realise how big I was until I saw a picture taken of my mum and I - wow! just awful but next Mother's Day I will be bangin!!

    Attention ! Australian Sleevers

I'm an Aussie too living in Brisbane and have my surgery booked for 30 May pending release of some super - keeping everything crossed cause I only need $4500. I have been on the Australian sleevers forum but find it very frustrating to navigate so I come on here. The banding together forum also has a sleeve section now since there are quite a few band to sleeve convertors. Let us know how you get on.

    5 Days Post Op

I hope you are feeling well soon but if you do spike a fever again and you are feeling unwell make sure you contact your doctor or emergency department because you may have an infection and need antibiotics.

    Gallbladder Stones!

I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy a number of years ago now. The operation was fine and the only thing I remember is the shoulder tip pain because they put gas in your perineal cavity so they can see better. Otherwise, I walked a little gingerly for a few days but recovered really well. Not having a gall bladder has not affected my life except I can't really eat fatty food - ironic really since I am having a sleeve gastrectomy at the end of May! If you have had an episode or two of biliary colic you will know how painful that is then recovery from having your gall bladder removed will be easy. Good luck with your surgery.

    Sleeved This Morning!

Congratulations!!! Sounds like you are going fly through the post op stage. My surgery is on 30 May - bring that on I say!!
  13. What a fantastic list!! My surgery is booked for 30 May. I've got a beautiful African basket my mother gave me so I'm going to start collecting my surgery stuff in that. I live in Australia so I have started hunting for the high protein drinks, we don't have isopure here I don't think. Oh, not sure if this has been added but what about brand new from the shop undies??

Newbie Alert! Is This Thing On?

Wow! That is an inspiring story Mell! How are you feeling now? What have your struggles been since surgery? What are you looking forward to doing in the future? Thanks for posting, I like your story.

    I Might Be "jumping Ship"

I was very sold on the band until I saw my surgeon and got some statistics from him. I am booked for a sleeve gastrectomy on 30th May. I've done my due diligence and have decided this is the way to go for me for many of the reasons that Amber mentioned. Youtube is a great source for vlogs too.

    May 2012 Sleevers Group

Hi Everyone, I'm booked for 30th May, 2012 - Yay!!
  17. I can't wait to wear jeans and a white t-shirt again (my uniform), walk without pain in my knees and feet, go to the beach without feeling embarrassed and not being invisible. Oh, while there are no guarantees, I am looking forward to living a longer, healthier, happier life >3

    Sitting In My Hospital Room.

Congratulations Moogle! Sounds like you are going great. I know the exercise is supposed to help with blood clots. My surgery is booked for 30/05/12 (we write our dates differently here in Australia). It's great to read all the stories on here - the good and the challenging. I have 45kg or about 100pounds to lose. I hope you keep improving.
  19. Thanks for bringing this question up Lisa, it has had me thinking about that aspect of the sleeve and disregarded before.

    Aussies Say Hello!

Thank you for the welcome Liliana!
  21. Hi Lisa, My Australian surgeon told me that there are 3 rows of titanium staples that remain in the stomach but stomach tissue does grow over this - apparently.
