  1. I went to OA in the Baltimore area about 15 years ago and I have to say that was the ONLY time I lost any weight in my entire life. It models itself after the AA meetings and you definitely don't need to say anything if you don't want to. What I remember is that I picked a "sponsor" from the people who were there (when I was ready) and I would call her every day and tell her what I was going to east the next day, so you have accountability to someone. They don't offer a meal plan, you can talk to a sponsor about what worked for them. I ended up just counting calories (and it probably wasn't that healthy of a diet). I cut out all my trigger foods and stopped eating after dinner. I lost 35 pounds in 3 months but as always, life got in the way, I stopped going to meetings, and the pounds came back, hence the reason that I finally pursued WLS :).

  2. I had my sleeve done on Monday too. I ended up staying in the hospital until yesterday because I was unable to keep anything down. When all was said and done, I came home weighing 15 pounds more than when I went in Monday morning! I realize that it is all Fluid etc but it does wear on the psyche a little bit. My main goal right now is to stay hydrated and worry about Protein later. When my husband cooked dinner tonight for him and the kids, I was really jealous though, chicken looked really good. Can't wait for the next three weeks to go by so I can start introducing real food again.

  3. I had my surgery Monday and I didn't get to go home until today (Thursday). Most of my surgeon's patients leave on Wednesdays (he always does the surgery on a Monday) but I couldn't keep anything down either. I stayed an extra day, got the hydration I needed, and came home today feeling a lot more confident that I could do this. Although, it's 7:30pm and I am ready to climb into bed; I sure hope I can sleep tonight!

  4. I've received some of the same comments, "you don't look that overweight". Are you kidding me??? My highest weight was 232 (height 5'3") when I started this process and I have ALWAYS been overweight. I don't bother trying to explain it to anyone anymore. I've only told a few people, other than family, and the rest will find out when the weight comes off!

  5. Hello all,

I am going through the bariatric surgery program at DHMC Manchester and the Elliot Hospital. My VSG surgery is scheduled for Monday the 20th of February. As far as I know they are a certified program too. I had gone to the CMC meetings years ago but was not ready to commit. When I revisited the idea of surgery, I decided to go through the Elliot's program instead and am VERY pleased so far. I also have Anthem and had no problem getting them to approve it.

    Good luck!
