    Mfp And Nutritional Goals

I set my calories at 800 and left everything else the mfp auto adds for everything else. I follow the 600 - 800 cal/60 + prot/60 + fluid/max 40 carbs plan. I normally air for only 600 calories and less the 20 carbs so I stay in ketosis. You can add me if you want- hollirrose. My food log is open. Im down about 147 lbs (a few pre op) in 7 months. I look at others on mfp to get food ideas and just to see what everyone else is doing.

    Worried About Lack Of Restriction

I had no problems with water/liquid from day 2 on. I thought my sleeve was broken. I also was hungry until I was cleared for "real" food. Once I was eating dense protein (meat, eggs) I finally felt the restriction everyone was talking about. I'm 7 months out and a meal is about 1.5 to 2 oz of protein or one egg. Try not to worry... I know easier said then done.. but you will feel the restriction once you get past liquid and mushy stages.

    Am I An Anomaly?

I never had any problems drinking and thought something must be broken as well. It is not.. we are just some of the lucky ones. Can you imagine drinking from a med cap every 15 mins to get your water in or ending up back in the hospital becase you cant drink? I never felt any real restriction until I was eating "real" food. I am 7 months out and a meal for me is 2 oz of protein and thats it. There isnt room for anything else. Keep in mind that full is a diff feeling then it was pre op. If you feel full like that then you are eating to much. I guess satisfied is a better description post op. Once cleared for dense protein you will know your sleeve is working. ^.^
  4. Not a vet... Only 7 months out... But in my opinion it is calories and carbs. I am a mexican sleever and didnt like the post op diet plan that was provided. It was more of eat 1/4 cup this or 1/2 cap of that. It didnt mention anything about how many calories, fat, carbs etc that I should be getting. I came on this forum and OH and followed the plan of some of the sucessful vets. I aim for 600 - 800 calories/min 64 oz fluid/max 40 carbs/min 60 protein. I was confused about the low carb thing. A vet told me low calories will get you to goal eventually but low carb will get you there fast. I wanted to be skinny yesterday so I have been following the plan above. 7 months out and I am down 144 lbs (a few pre op). Whould just low calorie have worked?? I dont know but Im not changing anything because this plan is working for me and I feel fantastic. Just remember that Carbs = cravings and hunger for many people. Good luck with your decision and keep in mind nothing is set in stone. If you go low cal or low carb and dont like the results... You can always change it!
  5. The first 3 - 4 months I had two protein shakes a day. I used powder that was around 125 calories per serving and 24 grams of protein. I also used rtd premier shakes that have 160 calories and 30 grams of protein. That is half of your calories for the day if you are aiming for 600. I am now 7 months out and have cut back to just one shake a day. I watch my carbs (under 20) so I basically eat meat, cheese, eggs for a meal. If I am still lacking calories for the day I add a cheese stick or something like that. Hope that helps.

    Clothing Size

It took 50 lbs to go down one size for me. I started at a 24 and wear a 14 now. The smaller you are the quicker you will go through sizes. It took a good 75 lbs for anyone who didnt know that I had surgery to notice I lost weight. Just keep doing hat you are doing and the changes will happen quick!

Can I Ever Have A Diet Soda Again?

1/2 of the people on here believe it will expand your tummy and the other 1/2 think that is a crock. Do a quick search and you will see this topic comes up often and there is always a debate about it. You need to decide what you believe. I do have a diet coke once a week or so. For some the carbonation makes they feel uncomfortable ... For me it works and doesnt send me into an eating frenzy. Good luck!

    How Many Calories?

I follow the same eaing plan as the poster above. Im a mexican sleever so I did not have a nut to listen to. The plan above is what got most (not all) of the vets to goal. So far I have lost 138 lbs in 7 months so I am sticking with it!

    Carbs,sugar ,junk...yummmm

Im almost 7 months out. One week out of the month I dont really like to eat, 2 of the weeks I am ok with food, and then for one week (around tom) I am hungry and have cravings. You know what I do-- nothing diffrent. I still log and track and eat the same foods that I do any other day. Who cares if you have a craving? If you dont give in it is not going to kill you, right? If I want something carby and full of sugar I make a deal with myself... If I still want it in a week ...I will have it. Sometimes I have it but most often I do not. This is just what works for me. Head hunger is aweful sometimes!

Eat Like Me, Lose Like Me

At one point we we all only 30 lbs overweight...and it didnt stop us. I wish your daughter the best of luck with her diet. I hope she can take off the LBS and keep it off. I just remember how hard it was pre op and how easy, yep I said it, it is now in comparison. I know vsg is a tool but for me post op life and weightloss has been much much easier.

    No Loss

Almost everyone experiences the "three week stall". Search for it and you will see. Just keep eating on plan and the weight will come off!

    Hunger

We need more info to give better answers... How many calories do you eat, how much protine, etc. Are you taking a ppi? I take a ppi twice a day. Acid feels like hunger. If you arent on one..ask your doctor for it. I follow the 600 calorie/+60 prot/+64 oz fluid/-40 carbs plan. Doing this I dont feel hungry. I log and track my intake on my fitness pal. For me this works!
  13. I didnt get one but I am a mexican sleever. From the posts I have read on here most dont really get a goal weight even with surgery in the us. Its a personal decision... Are you going to shoot for a normal bmi or just keep losing until you feel you look good? I havent really decided yet. After surgery I decided my goal was to be a size 12. I started at a 24 so it seemed nearly impossible. I have never been a 12 so I didnt know how much I would weigh at that size. Im in a 14 now and I already know that I am not going to stop at a 12! I guess my point is.. only you can decide and you can change your goal even when you get there.

    Well, It Didn't Happen....

Im glad your ok and doing well. To bad they didnt do the vsg first! Sounds like you are in a positive mindset. For me, galbladder was the same sort of recovery as vsg. No problems. Best of luck and keep positive!

Question About Red Meat & Pork

All meats are ok for me. I dont have a hard time with pork or steak... Briskett doesnt feel right so I dont eat it. I tend to eat more chicken then anything only because my calorie goal is 600 per day. Less calories and more prot with chicken.

Is There A Such Thing As Too Few Carbs?

Shouldn't be a problem. I keep my carbs at 20 or less a day so I stay in ketosis and drop the lbs faster. Less carbs for me = less hunger and cravings.

Ha... I look at myfitness pal more then my facebook now! ^_~ My name on there is the same as on here-- hollirrose. I love to look at other wls peoples food log too. Seriously there are three things that I feel have made me successful so far... Weighing/measuring my food, tracking everything on myfitnesspal (even the stuff I would rather people not know), and eating set portions to feel satisfied and not stuffed. Add me!
  20. Im 6 months out and dont enjoy food the same way I remember pre op. I dont know if pre op it was really as good as I thought it was... If that makes sense.

Lol... Our shape is round then! Now I am less round and more melty. =). I wish you the best of luck! I always like seeing people who were/are similar to me to. It is nice to kind of get a glimpse of what we might end up looking like. There seems to be a lot of tall and curvy women out there who lose a ton and look skinny and curvy. I'm jealous of them!
