  1. HOW DID U GET THE AIR TO MOVE TO BURP???? THIS GAS PAIN IS KILLING ME!!!!!

Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk

The most helpful thing for gas pains to me was a heating pad. Most of that gas is in your chest and abdomen, and not in your digestive system, so you really wont burp that out. I have had a heating pad on my upper back for most of the day since surgery.

  2. Banded May 14th, and doing well with minimal discomfort.

One thing, my legs and hips are achy when I lay down..strange. And I still fell bloated and swollen.

How is everyone else doing ?

    Nita

I was banded on the 14th also- my legs were achy too but much better today. I can tell the bloating and swelling is going down as well but that seems to be slow. It must be the gas. It seems that the band is tighter in the morning too- anyone else have that experience?

  3. Well today is the day! Not nervous about surgery just the needles; I really hate needles. Have to b at hospital at 9. Everyone please keep me in your prayers. Wish me luck

Good luck to you! Post-op won't be as bad as you think. Be sure ot post all about your experience.

  4. I was banded Monday May 14th. I could only drink about 16oz total the day of surgery, then 32 oz Water and 24oz of Protein Shakes all day days 2 and 3, and about 12 oz of Soup and so far I have gotten down 16oz water and 12 oz Protein Shake and a scrambled egg this morning on day 4. I do not feel pain when I feel full, so I think you may be just feeling the surgical pain still. My doc told me I could take my pills whole and I have, even fairly large capsules with no problem. My pain has been fairly manageable from the day after surgery on. As far as gas pain, a heating pad helped me more than anything, even pain meds. I also did not have a fill during the surgery- maybe you did and that's why you are uncomfortable?? I can say at least I feel better every day.

  5. Good luck to you! Just think about what you will look like and how good you will feel next year when the pool opens. You just might outswim your kids and you will make a smaller splash. I has surgery this past Monday and I am back at work today at a desk job. I have had very little pain. You will do great!

  6. My dietician says 3 oz of lean Protein is equal to 20gms. I had my first bite of real food this morning after being banded and I was a bit scared also- I had one scrambled egg. It was a little harder that I thought. I did not chew the first two bites as well as I think I should have. It did not get stuck, just an gassy feeling. I was so excited to have solid food for the first time in 11 days that I sort of inhaled it. From the 3rd bite, I counted how many times a chewed it and that made a big difference and I took my time eating the rest. But, after just one egg, I was full.

  7. Hi everyone ... Just wanted to introduce myself. I get banded 5/30. Just started the two-week liquid diet required by my surgeon. I'm struggling a bit with that - you may have seen my other posts on it.

Anyway, I really enjoy reading about everyone's experiences pre- and post-surgery! I'm excited but really, really nervous too! Any kind of surgery really scares me - I'm kind of a baby about it.

Welcome! I personally think the pre-op diet was more of struggle than after surgery! I had a couple of days where is wanted to cheat so bad but I just kept telling myself that this stage is TEMPORARY. It will pass. You will get to eat again. Every day you push through is one day closer to that phase being over with. You can do this. It will all be worth it in the end. I made a point to just completely stay out of my kitchen for the 2 weeks and I spent a lot of time looking at before and after pics and reading success stories on this site. It was very helpful.

  8. I too had surgery yesterday... I had the lapband with plication. Came home from hospital today. Im a little sore but not enough for pain meds.

Hey! Glad to hear to you doing well. I am the blue folder buddy who followed you through the upper GI, pre-op and then to the nutrition class last Tuesday. I am not needing pain meds either. Did you stay overnight? I came home that afternoon.

  9. I am 2 days post-op and surprised to see how many variation there are in the post-op diet restrictions. It seems that I can advance to soft and regular foods faster than others, but I seem to have an overall more strict carbohydrate limit from here on than some.

Days 1 and 2: liquids only, 32-64 oz of Water and 30gm of Protein from shakes

Days 3 and 4: soft foods that can be cut with a fork, 64oz of water and 60gm protein from combo of food and shakes

Day 5 and beyond: regular consistancy, 64 oz of water and 60-80gm protein from food, under 25-50 net carbohydrates per day (subtract total carbs from gms of Fiber to calculate net carbs). One doc in the group (not my surgeon) is pretty strict to stay under the 25 net carb rule.

    What's your post-op diet like?

  10. I was banded 9 months ago today, and was at my all time high of 306 when I started my preop diet. I'm so happy to say that I'm finally in onderland - 199! No one is gonna burst my bubble today. I still have a long way to go - I'm proud to have come this far. And I've dine it with little to no restriction! Got a fill last night, and it seems like this one has finally made a difference for me. It's too soon to be sure, here's Hoping!

Wow! Good for you! Thanks for the inspirational post.

  11. I was banded yesterday, May 14th and everything went very smoothly. I have 5 incisions, all with steri strips covered by a non stick gauze and clear dressings. I was suprised when I looked at them the first time, that whomever dressed them cut the gauze in heart shapes. Made me smile! That was somehow so comforting that someone took the time to do that. I have no clue who it was. So I have 5 hearts on my belly!

Did not feel like eating much yesterday- only had Water, 1/2 of a Protein Shake and a few bites of pureed vegetable Soup. I can only have liquids for the first 2 days. Today, I have had just water and some Tomato Soup and it tasted heavenly after that 2 wk pre-op diet. I was happy to learn that I lost 14 lbs on the pre-op diet too!

I don't think the pain has been bad at all. Just soreness and everyone who has described it as doing too many sit ups is right on target. Could not sleep on my left side last night because of the location of the incisions.I took pain meds yesterday and last night, but only Tylenol today. I have had other surgeries much worse than this. Heating pad and walking has kept the gas pains to a minimum. The most discomfort is right at the site of the band and my port is also in this area. I could not have asked for a better experience so far!

I hope my fellow May 14th bandees are doing well also. I was thinking of all of you yesterday when I was there.

  12. NOOOOO, reread! The band company is the good guy w my friend, they WILL replace for no charge. The Dr is BAD, he wont do surgery for no charge! Bad man. Not my Dr! :)

OMG ! So sorry! What a predicament. I hope everything turms out ok for her.
