  1. Six weeks out and this has been the toughest part for me. I had left a bottle of Water on the table and later when I started eating my dinner, there went my hand, reaching for it! I stopped myself, and I know it is getting a little easier to get used to this. My doc says I have to wait 90 minutes to be able to drink, and since I've been successful, I will follow my doctor's orders. I make sure I get my liquids in 15 minutes before my meals.

  2. I had my 2 week post op Wednesday. My Dr. said I could go to regular food. Interesting how they all differ a bit on that issue.

I did get 2 CC's added and was happy about that, but don't really feel much difference. I have been pretty hungry and can eat about 1 cup or a bit more. I have been trying to stay under that, but I get hungry after a couple hours.

How are you all doing with that part? I lost 20 lbs. in the first month and don't want to gain any of that back.

Hi! I'm about 5 weeks out and little by little have been getting very hungry. Sometimes drinking makes it go away, but I've been struggling trying to stay under 1/2 cup of food at a time. First fill will be in two weeks..hope it helps! Good luck to you, too!

  3. I was just wondering ...what kind of pain is the port pain after surgery? How would some of you describe it and how long does it last...5.5 days to go and very nervous!!!

It's not that bad; more like soreness. I was banded on July 5th, and I could press down on my port after about two weeks without any problem. It hurt me every time I stood up for the first two weeks, so support your abdomen with your hand, but really, it's over before you know it and it's not something you need any meds for.

  4. LOVE THIS!!! It's sooo true!! I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and it SUCKS!! The only way to get through it is to stick to the golden rules!

I'm right there with you. I stepped up the exercise and changed what I eat (even though it was food on the list). I hope the scale moves again.

  5. I hope so. This is day 2 of my post open and I'm still hurting and feeling whiny. I can turn in my bed better now, although it still hurts and I've been using gas strips which aren't helping and drinking Water Gatorade and eating sugar free popsicle but I'm still in soon much pain. I wouldn't have went through with this if I knew I'd be feeling like this

Don't forget pain meds. Call your doctor if in doubt. It's rough for a day or two, but then you should be feeling much better painwise. You won't have regained all your energy, but you will shortly.

  6. i am 2 weeks post op and now on my full liquid diet. i lost 13 lbs my first week and now this week nothing i keep going up and down 3-4lbs. why am i not lossing anymore so disappointed. i am following my diet to the T. i can only have 1/4 cup of something every meal and snack in between. i started adding the Protein in this week also and i am allowed to have cream of Soups, sf pudding, Jello, broth, sf popcicles, yogurt. all the Water i want which i am finding it hard to just sip it seems like i can't get enough water throughout the day always thirsty. ugh frustrated.

Me too! I only eat about 800 calories now that I'm at stage 2 foods (banded on 7/5). My scale won't budge, but my clothes are fitting better. Hang in there!

Try supporting your abdomen with a pillow when you get up and when you turn in bed. This goes away, too! I'm a side sleeper and the first week I couldn't get comfortable sleeping on my back. I was banded July 5 and only hurt a little bit and energy is back to pre op status. Good luck, and I know you will be feeling better soon.

  8. Well I'm officially banded and officially a wreck. I am in soo much gas pain! I've walked drunk Water used gas strips but nothing seems to help. :(

It will get better. Remember to walk, walk, walk. You will soon forget all about it once you start loosing that weight. I was gassy for about 10 days. My doc's office said that Gas X strips don't work for everybody -- I went through a whole box in just a couple of days! The walking made it better, though.

  9. Happy Band Day everyone. Im 2 weeks post surgery. First time since surgery I experienced the dreaded shoulder pain, which I think was from eating something that wasnt mushed up enough. Holy Moly, it was awful. So take it easy on yourselves, rest and stick to liquids as long as your doc says to.

Me, too! Yesterday I hit my 2 weeks and was so eager to get on to the next food phase. Had bean Soup yesterday and I finally wasn't hungry. Hooray for stage 2. Good luck to us!

  10. I got banded this morning and have been to the grocery store/pharmacy (meds and walking some gas out). I am home resting and watching food Network (my fave post surgery past time).

And for the icing on the cake - fellow bandaged Radarluv and I got to meet in post-op/recovery. Apparently there was some conversation pre-op, but I was already dosed on the good stuff and remember none of it!

I have neve enjoyed burping as much as I am now - ready to get this gas out.

I hope all of our recent bandsters are having a great recovery'

    Congratulations!!!

  11. Had mine done yesterday, had a bit of a panic attack but came round really well, The only thing is the trapped wind, hurts really bad, anyone who has had it got any tips to help release this bloody gas!

Thanks very much and good luck for those who still have to get it done! :D

The gas pain was the worst of the side effects! The doctors office said unfortunately the Gas X strips won't always work since the majority of the gas is not in your stomach, but outside, around your diaphragm. I found myself walking two and three times a day, which really helped. Sorry for the pun, but this, too will pass. Good luck to you!

  12. Hi guys. I a new to this site but I am getting banded July 20!!!! I am getting so excited! It's been 3 years in the making. I started my liquid diet Monday and I can eat a small salad now. I am proud to say I haven't cheated. I want this so bad!!!!

Congratulations to you. I don't know that I could have waited that long without wanting to strangle something! Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I had my Realize band put in 8 days ago and feeling good.

  13. I am doing real well, been 8 days since I was banded and I feel 90% normal. Still some twinges depending how I move, plus I still get that brick in my tummy feeling from time to time. But its going a lot better than I could have hoped. My kids and my best friends keep telling me I look like I'm losing weight, but its hard to tell being such a big guy.

I'm exactly where you are! Don't you sometimes wonder why we didn't do this sooner?

  14. My doc said my tentative surgery date was 7/31 however I still don't have a pre-op appoint with the surgeon and I don't have insurances final approval yet...so I'm very unsure that i will really get it done this month ( and I really want too).

Hang in there! Mine was postponed twice. Like my doc said, sometimes the stars and planets have to be aligned just right. It's frustrating, yes, but it will happen, so hang in there!

  15. Hello All,

My name is Monisha and I am new to the forum. I am excited for my journey to begin! My surgery date is July 17 :D I hope to make some friends who I can turn to for support! Thanks!

Good luck! You will be surprised at how soon you are feeling better. Mine was a week ago (Realize band). I was flip-flopping between Lapband and Realize and didn't decide until an hour before my procedure! Just follow all your doctor's advice, attend support meetings before and after and you will do very well!

  16. I'm getting banded on 23rd July too at Dolan Park by Mr A Sigurdsson. Nerves beginning to kick in! Any advice would be helpful.

I'm day 6 post op; got the Realize band and had a hiatal hernia repair. I've resumed normal activities except lifting. Get your stuff ready (Gas x strips, puddings, Protein Shakes, s/f beverages, etc.) The procedure itself was not as painful as I would have imagined. I only had to take pain meds twice. You will need to move around to help with gas pains -- those were the worst, but Gas X strips and walking helped. Also, make sure you get a RX for nausea medications for the date of your surgery. You don't want to battle that! Good luck!
