    Scheduled Tummy Tuck

Good luck to you! I am pre-band but I wanted to offer my support! You have done a wonderful job and deserve all the best. I am sure I will need a TT someday due to my current weight and the elasticity of my skin so I frequently peruse TT posts. Maybe someday I will be asking for your advice! Good luck and congratulations!!

    Ok Here Goes.

welcome!!! I am so excited for you! I am pre-band, but I will surely offer all of the support that I can. I wish you the best of luck on your new journey!
  3. Do you mix the GNC shake with Water or milk? I have a bit of a lactose intolerance. I know another fellow used Atkins Advantage shakes.
  4. Sojourner- Oh yeah! There is a whole slew of vitamins that my surgeon suggests. I have already started on that regime.
  5. Wow Amruiz03- that is pretty cool! I bet you will never look at green apples the same way again! Heathermarie0407- That is what most of my research suggests. A bit more Protein included and more specific caloric guidelines. You are certainly right! I am going to have to stay busy!
  6. I am not having trouble with the pre-op diet. I am having trouble with the lack of instructions. I need the instructions to be very specific- that way, I won't struggle with liquid diet options. And I can assure you- I have thought long and hard before making this life-altering decision. It was not made in vain, nor was it on a whim. And I know you are trying to be helpful, but I dont think that your statement was fair. Please try to be more considerate in the future. People come to this board for advice and help, not criticism.
  7. Oh, I completely understand that I need to shrink my liver (I am a RN ) And, I do trust my surgeon, but I wish the pre-op diet instructions were more specific. I understand a lot of LB patients go on the MediFast or OptiFast diet to lose weight before surgery. I wonder if that would be sufficient?
  8. Hey June Bandsters!!! I am having surgery on 6/12/12. I am also very, very excited!! I can't wait to begin this journey!!! Have you all headed over to the June Bandsters Board? If not, head on over and lets support each other along the way!!! I have set a personal weight loss goal of 30lbs before surgery. Starting on 5/12 I am going to start a 1200cal diet for 2 weeks before I start my liquid diet. What are all of your weight loss goals?? Do you have to lose a certain amount before surgery?? Is your pre-op diet 2 weeks long? Jennifer

    Are Skinny People Treated Better?

ABSOLUTELY!!! I have been passed up for a promotion because of my weight. Also- my OB doctor was "fat-phobic." I believe I received sub-optimal care because he was disgusted by my weight.

I get banded in June. My BMI is 50. I am 37!!
  13. I agree with you as well. I am scheduled for LB in June and the negative posts have me concerned, too. But I do agree with the majority of the posters who responded that it is more common to see posts about complications rather than lack of, because people who are having complications need to explore other's experiences or "vent." I also agree that maybe we are experiencing more complaints due to recent events. With all due respect, however, I would like to say, as a health care professional myself, that we need to take such with some skepticism. I do believe that some bandsters have had catastophic events, but I believe that such events may not be the result of the band. If you review the posts a bit more thoroughly, you will see that spelling and grammar, as well as basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology are somewhat lacking. Therefore, I believe that maybe the story isnt quite what it may seem. And as all of us who experience the pitfalls of obesity know, there are multitudes of potentially deadly co-morbidities that accompany obesity. That is, after all why we want to change our lives- isn't it? Good luck with your journey. I look forward to reading about your success!

    Hair Lost ?

All of her hair.....no I don't think so. A large amount........ maybe. If she lost all of her hair it was due to an underlying condition. The loss we experience after WLS is known medically as telogen effluvium. Human hair follicles have two states: anagen, a growth phase, and telogen, a dormant or resting stage. All hairs begin their life in the anagen phase, grow for some period of time, and then shift into the telogen phase, which lasts for approximately 100 to 120 days. Following this, the hair will fall out. Typically, about 90 percent of hairs are anagen and 10 percent are telogen at any give time—meaning that we are usually losing a lot less hair than we are growing, so the hair loss is not noticeable. But sometimes this can change- Specific types of stress can result in a shift of a much greater percentage of hairs into the telogen phase. The stressors known to result in this shift, or telogen effluvium, include WLS. Hair loss will rarely last for more than six months in the absence of a dietary cause. Because hair follicles are not damaged in telogen effluvium, hair should then regrow. For this reason, most doctors can assure their WLS patients that with time and patience, and keeping up good nutritional intake, their hair will grow back. If hair loss continues after 6 months......iron deficiency is usually the cause.

    Any Nurses Here?

up near the clavicle? WOW!! I would be too tempted to try and fill myself. I am only taking 3 days off. I am the boss, so I can stay away from patient care if I have to. I hope all goes well. I am a bit nervous!

    Any Nurses Here?

Hi Everyone!! I am a RN/BSN from northern Illinois. I am scheduled to have my surgery 6/12/12. I am so excited! There is an exclusion through my employer-provided insurance that doesn't cover WLS, so I am going to Mexico. I am the most concerned about the 2-week pre-op diet. Any experiences/suggestions??
  23. Hello! I am new to this forum and have a couple of questions. The first question is in regards to the 4cc LapBand. I assume it is the first generation LapBand. I was wondering about its effectiveness. Do those of you who have it experience similar results to those of you who have a second or even 3rd generation LapBand? I am having surgery out of the US and the Allergan 4cc is my option. Thanks! Jennifer

I live in Rochelle, Illinois- I believe about an hour and a half directly north of you. I am going to travel to Mexico 6/11/2012 to have the lap band done. I am so excited! Are you staying local? I believe Alexian Brothers has a great program. Jennifer
